Hugh MacLeod has tapped into his own heart and his own woundedness so that he can speak to the hearts of people and organizations to inspire, to question, to laugh and to grow. Hugh joins Jerry in this episode of The Reboot Podcast to discuss how how he got his start, what motivates leaders, and how to work (and lead) from the heart. (Hint: often the "how" lies in identifying our own wounds).
Reboot Podcast #22 - Does Anyone Know what they are Doing? With Sharon Salzbe...rebootio
We’re often in (or feel we’re in) uncharted waters - a place where making things up as we go is a necessity. Feeling lost in those places can be anxiety-inducing. We feel incompetent. We feel shameful. We can end up feeling that everyone has figured it out but me. But how true is that, really? And perhaps the better question--how can owning my own anxiety in these areas help me step more fully into my authentic self and even increase my capacity for happiness?
We are honored to welcome one of our key teachers at Reboot, Sharon Salzberg, to the podcast. In this conversation, Sharon and Jerry discuss Sharon’s own entrepreneurial path, a new definition of success (and failure), authenticity, loving kindness and the question: Does anyone really know what they are doing?
Ben Saunders knows very well the ups and downs that come with attempting to do something extraordinary. Like so many entrepreneurs, he struggled with the challenges of being an effective leader, and faced the pain of fundraising or not meeting payroll. But Ben’s end goal was a bit different. He’ a polar explorer. Between October 2013 and February 2014, he and his companion Tarka broke the record for the longest ever polar journey on foot. On their path to the South Pole, they faced temps of -50F and wind chills near -70F all while they covered nearly seventy marathons back-to-back on less than four hours of sleep a night.
This record breaking journey was nearly ten years in the making for Ben, and truly was an amazing accomplishment, but despite all that he found the inner journey that followed even more challenging than what he faced out on the ice. In this conversation, Ben and Jerry discuss his journey on and off the ice.

Buddhist Geeks has been featured on the pages of the Los Angeles Times, The Guardian, Tricycle, and The Atlantic. Vincent was also honored to be part of Wired’s "Smart List 2012: 50 people who will change the world."

Reboot Podcast #27 - From Caring Comes Courage - with Jerry Colonna on Reboot...rebootio
Zoe, the founder of Opus for Work, reached out to Jerry because she was thinking about the implications of potentially disappointing the people who have supported her and her company through their belief and trust. This includes friends, family, early investors, and potentially customers in the future. She is okay with failure herself but worries about how failure might affect those supporters and make them question their own judgment. Jerry acknowledges that placing trust in others often leads to disappointment and helps Zoe realize she should not see potential failure as a reflection of her own worth, as disappointment is an inherent part of relationships.
The document discusses how the author started an underground magazine called The Harbinger at their school after feeling uninspired by their program, outlining the challenges they faced in getting it off the ground with little resources and support initially. It then describes how they were able to build a team to help the magazine grow and find its voice by giving artists a platform to openly share their thoughts and creative process. The author expresses their desire to leave behind a physical print version of The Harbinger as a legacy and inspiration for others to continue pushing creative boundaries.

Reboot Podcast #20 with Bijan Sabet - Investors are Human toorebootio
It sounds so obvious, perhaps even tongue in cheek, but it also seems to be forgotten enough that it needs to be said aloud again: Investors are human too. They, like the entrepreneurs they back, can ride the rollercoaster of emotions that often come with starting a company. In this episode Jerry Colonna is joined by Bijan Sabet of Spark Capital and they explore some of the tensions that often arise between investors and entrepreneurs, the emotional perspective of the investor, and the importance of purpose and artistry. As a bonus, it includes Jerry reading a blessing at the end.

The newsletter closes with an article by the village bibliotherapist describing her work helping traumatized children through therapy and a nurturing environment of acceptance and love.
Reboot Podcast #32 - Invest in Being Yourself - with Bryce Roberts and Chris ...rebootio
Bryce Roberts founded a venture capital firm called O'Reilly Alpha Tech Ventures 10 years ago. He later started an initiative called Indie VC to provide funding to entrepreneurs in a way that allowed them to build long-term, durable businesses aligned with their values rather than focusing on short-term milestones. This came after Bryce realized he was trying to fit the standard VC mold rather than being authentic to himself. Similarly, Chris Marks founded Blue Note Ventures with a focus on authentic leadership after conversations with Jerry Colonna led him to realize he didn't want to just do another standard VC fund. Both Bryce and Chris aimed to do venture capital differently by encouraging entrepreneurs to be true to themselves rather than conform to
Reboot Podcast #34 - Self actualization - with Henry May on Reboot Podcastrebootio
“Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakens.” – Carl Jung.
"Work is difficulty and drama, a high-stakes game in which our identity, our self-esteem, and our ability to provide are mixed inside us in a volatile, sometimes explosive ways.” from David Whyte in his incredible book, Crossing the Unknown Sea: Work as a pilgrimage of Identity.
That volatile, explosive mix is a gift. It presents a tremendous opportunity for us to do our own work, our inner work, and further develop our own understanding of self. In our conversation today, Jerry is joined by Henry May, founder and CEO of CoSchool, based in Columbia. Henry comes to Jerry with this very issue: How might the journey of entrepreneurship, specifically his own, open up new opportunities for him to grow? Or said more directly: How might he use his work at Coschool to do the real work on his humanity?
Reboot Podcast #33 - Do I Even Have A Superpower?- with Kent Cavender-Baresrebootio
Have you ever asked yourself the question: I wonder if we'd be better off with someone else in my role?
In this podcast, a listener, Kent Cavender-Bares from Rowbots comes to Jerry with a question a similar question about his superpower: "What if my deep integrity, my commitment to simply telling how it is, is the reason we’re unable to fundraise? Do I even have a Superpower? Wouldn’t Rowbots, be further along if someone else was leading?" Jerry and Kent explore the double edge of a superpower, and how the path through his challenges may lie in a new set of questions: How can I be even more like Kent? How can I embrace my superpower? How can I believe in myself? And why is that so damned important?
Reboot Podcast #28 - Reclaiming the Shadow - with Tracy Lawrence on Reboot Po...rebootio
Tracy is the founder of Chewse, an on-demand food startup in San Francisco. She implemented a policy of open compensation at her company, making salaries and options transparent. This has caused anxiety for Tracy, as she fears not getting the "art and science" of compensation right. Her goal with openness and fairness is to prove that a company can treat people well and still be successful. However, any mistakes could hurt her cause and make employees unhappy. Tracy wants employees to feel good about themselves and want to work with her again, even if the company does not succeed.
Reboot Podcast #14 - Shadow and Leadership - with Parker Palmer and Jerry Col...rebootio
This document discusses the concept of shadow in leadership. Parker Palmer defines shadow as the unconscious parts of ourselves that we are not aware of but have power over us. Rather than trying to get rid of the shadow, the goal should be bringing it into consciousness so it no longer has unconscious power. Leaders need to examine their inner selves and acknowledge their shadows as well as lights to achieve wholeness. Failing to confront one's shadow risks allowing it to negatively shape one's leadership and organization. The reward of this inner work is feeling more whole and at home with oneself.
Reboot Podcast #26 - Finding your Business Soulmate - Founders of The Grommet...rebootio
Two co-founders, who refer to each other as business soulmates, have found themselves in that special place of alignment. A place in partnership where they align not just intellectually, not just energetically, not even just at a values level, but at a human level. Jules Pieri (her second time on the show) and her partner Joanne Domeniconi oni are the Co-founders of The Grommet. They join Jerry to talk about the beginning of their partnership, where and how they found alignment at the human level, how it has evolved over time, and the challenges it represents as they scale the business
Reboot Podcast #9 - Investing in Trust - with Fred Wilson and Jerry Colonnarebootio
Fred Wilson barely needs an introduction for his role and impact in the startup community both as blogger and co-founder of Union Square Ventures. Fred’s also a big reason why I’m here giving this intro: his blog ultimately led me to meeting and now working with Jerry; and his family podcast, Positively 10th Street, was one of the first podcasts I ever listened to. Feels like things have come full circle.
So I’m thrilled to have Fred join Jerry for this episode. In 19 years of friendship and partnership in the startup world, these two have seen just about everything. In this conversation they share some stories from the Flatiron Partnership days, what makes a perfect board, the importance of trust in investing, and what makes a good leader. They even discuss the sheer terror they felt on their own entrepreneurial journey. There’s a lot of great material referenced in this discussion, so we’ve gone ahead and compiled a bunch of links from this show on our podcast page at reboot.io/podcast.
In what we hope will be a series of several, enjoy this first Reboot conversation with Fred Wilson and Jerry Colonna.
Reboot Podcast #19 Building a House of Belonging with Tanisha Robinsonrebootio
What’s it like to find your path of authentic service in the world? What if you could use the pain of the past, a pain of not knowing where you fit in, of not knowing where you belong to propel you toward work that makes a difference? What if you could create a place of belonging? Well, it might look a lot like what Tanisha Robinson is building with Print Syndicate.
Started just 2.5 years ago with 8 people, Print Syndicate now has over 140 employees and will generate more than $20M in revenue this year. But the company isn’t just about shirts and home goods, it’s a place where people (including a black, gay, woman from a Mormon family of 7 in a small town in Missouri) have a place to self-identify and a place to belong. As Tanisha shares, running a company fueled by your passion to make the world better is both exhilarating and heartwrenching.
To have a firm persuasion, to set out boldly in our work, is to make a pilgrimage of our labors, to understand that the consummation of work lies not only in what we have done but who we become while accomplishing the task.
-David Whyte - Crossing the Unknown Sea: Work as a Pilgrimage of Identity
In today’s conversation Jerry is joined by Ben Rubin - Cofounder and CEO of Change Collective - an organization itself that is set on helping people make positive change in their lives. Ben comes to Jerry wondering how he can better deal with the negative inner dialogue. They quickly discover that inner voice, and more specifically the feelings that precede it, are a powerful indicator of an underlying fear. What opportunities exist in exploring that fear?
The document introduces Merry Riana and her journey from surviving on $10 per week as a university student in Singapore to becoming a millionaire entrepreneur by age 26. It discusses how she dared to dream big from a young age and had a compelling vision for success, allowing her to overcome challenges and achieve financial success despite humble beginnings. The document is meant to inspire readers by showing them they too can achieve great things if they believe in themselves and their dreams.
Reboot Podcast #31 - Why Being Real Matters- with Evgeny Shadchnevrebootio
Evgeny has been grappling with whether trust can be maintained as a company scales, or if fear-based leadership is inevitable. He noticed high trust among early co-founders at Makers Academy, but companies often operate on assumptions that employees can't be fully trusted. Evgeny has found that being more trusting himself and with others leads to better company performance and less stress. He recounts a conversation with an investor where he chose to be openly honest about their relationship, acknowledging his own role in issues, which marked a turning point to greater trust and productivity between them.
Reboot Podcast #8 - How Introspection Changed My Business - With Blaine Vess ...rebootio
“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”
― Aristotle
Entrepreneur and CEO Blaine Vess has an impressive story. Studymode, the company he helped start and bootstrap from his dorm room almost 16 years ago, now has 30 employees and sees between 60-90M visitors a month. It’s rare to find 15 year old bootstrapped companies. It’s rare to have the same CEO for 15 years as Blaine has been. But last year, Blaine wanted more for his company and himself. He wanted to know how to help push his company to the next level. To achieve that, he didn’t look elsewhere, he looked within.
In this conversation, Jerry and Blaine talk about Blaine’s “year of introspection”. It included a stop at one of our bootcamps, working with a coach and a therapist, and that year ultimately helped him understand how and why he was holding himself back. Perhaps Blaine and Jerry’s conversation, our first of 2015, may spark your own year of introspection.

Stephani Price had a successful career but felt unfulfilled and wanted more time with her family. After her child was born, a friend introduced her to Arbonne, a health and wellness company. Though skeptical at first, she was intrigued by the products and supportive community. She decided to start an Arbonne business despite having no business experience. While she had early success, having a baby caused her momentum to slow. She recommitted to treating her business seriously and pursuing growth through learning. Her small, consistent steps led to professional success where she now has flexibility and fulfills her goals of time with family and financial contribution.
Life often brings difficulties and unfair situations. However, one can choose to focus on the positive or complain. It's best to accept challenges as opportunities to build patience, avoid comparing yourself to others, and find happiness in relationships rather than material things. Maintaining a positive outlook even during tough times is important for well-being.

This document profiles Dana Theus, founder of InPower Women, InPower Coaching, and InPower Consulting. Suha Owens decided to become an Arbonne independent consultant after having her second daughter and not wanting to return to her previous job. She was initially skeptical of the opportunity but attended a presentation and was intrigued. Owens realized she didn't want to return to her previous job and that being a consultant could allow her to stay home with her daughters. Though hesitant at first due to concerns about selling skincare and the stigma around network marketing, Owens committed to giving it a try for a year. She was then further motivated when her husband lost his job unexpectedly. Owens worked hard and was able to achieve the level of Regional Vice President within a year.
Aron Dalrymple is an accounting major who enjoyed assignments involving budgets, finances, and self-reflection. Lauren Hom, Hom Sweet Hom
Overview
In early 2016, Lauren packed up her studio in New York City in pursuit of the ultimate form of inspiration: travel. After exploring the world for a year, she was surprised to discover that she didn’t feel more inspired than before. The truth is, she’d actually found more inspiration for her work in her normal, everyday life than in her epic world trip.
That’s not to say that travel can’t be wildly inspiring – it totally can be. But what if she told you that there’s just as much inspiration in fighting with your spouse as there is in traveling the world? Would you believe her if she told you that she’s gotten more inspiration from a night of drinking than a night of watching TED talks? What Lauren hopes to teach you today is that EVERY experience in your life can be used as inspiration. You are the secret source of inspiration you never even knew you had – you just need to know where to look.
Objective
To inspire the audience with stories of how I’ve turned mundane events into powerful creative projects & how they are more than capable of doing the same
Target Audience
Designers and entrepreneurs who want to get more eyes on their work & feel more creatively inspired
Five Things Audience Members Will Learn
Every experience is inspiration – even the bad stuff
There is magic in the mundane
Relatable ideas are shareable ideas
Use your skills to solve your problems & you’ll solve them for others too
The secret to creativity is simply paying attention
How, as a 34 year old “burnt out” professional performer, I discovered the 3 key elements of a great opportunity, with no hype, only the hard hitting truth, that allowed me to generate up to 4 figures in a single day when I applied this…
Sandra Cash reflects on her experience in a public speaking class and how it helped improve her communication skills. She found public speaking much harder than she anticipated. While her anxiety levels remained similar for different types of communication, her anxiety for public speaking increased. Through writing and delivering several speeches, including self-introductions, informative, persuasive, and tribute speeches, she gained confidence and experience. She also learned how to use outlines and presentation slides effectively. Feedback from her audiences helped her identify areas for improvement such as speaking louder and slower. Overall, she is satisfied with her progress and believes she earned an A in the class.
This document discusses the realities of life as an international student in Canada. It describes the many challenges international students face, such as lack of equal opportunities, difficulties finding work due to their student visa status, and financial struggles. While international students pay much higher tuition than domestic students and contribute significantly to the Canadian economy, they often feel deprived of support and opportunities. The document advocates for better treatment and support for international students pursuing education and opportunities in Canada.

PGx Analysis in VarSeq: A User’s PerspectiveGolden Helix
Since our release of the PGx capabilities in VarSeq, we’ve had a few months to gather some insights from various use cases. Some users approach PGx workflows by means of array genotyping or what seems to be a growing trend of adding the star allele calling to the existing NGS pipeline for whole genome data. Luckily, both approaches are supported with the VarSeq software platform. The genotyping method being used will also dictate what the scope of the tertiary analysis will be. For example, are your PGx reports a standalone pipeline or would your lab’s goal be to handle a dual-purpose workflow and report on PGx + Diagnostic findings.
The purpose of this webcast is to:
Discuss and demonstrate the approaches with array and NGS genotyping methods for star allele calling to prep for downstream analysis.
Following genotyping, explore alternative tertiary workflow concepts in VarSeq to handle PGx reporting.
Moreover, we will include insights users will need to consider when validating their PGx workflow for all possible star alleles and options you have for automating your PGx analysis for large number of samples. Please join us for a session dedicated to the application of star allele genotyping and subsequent PGx workflows in our VarSeq software.

GASTROINTESTINAL INFECTIONS AND GASTRITIS
Osvaldo Bernardo Muchanga
Gastrointestinal Infections
GASTROINTESTINAL INFECTIONS result from the ingestion of pathogens that cause infections at the level of this tract, generally being transmitted by food, water and hands contaminated by microorganisms such as E. coli, Salmonella, Shigella, Vibrio cholerae, Campylobacter, Staphylococcus, Rotavirus among others that are generally contained in feces, thus configuring a FECAL-ORAL type of transmission.
Among the factors that lead to the occurrence of gastrointestinal infections are the hygienic and sanitary deficiencies that characterize our markets and other places where raw or cooked food is sold, poor environmental sanitation in communities, deficiencies in water treatment (or in the process of its plumbing), risky hygienic-sanitary habits (not washing hands after major and/or minor needs), among others.
These are generally consequences (signs and symptoms) resulting from gastrointestinal infections: diarrhea, vomiting, fever and malaise, among others.
The treatment consists of replacing lost liquids and electrolytes (drinking drinking water and other recommended liquids, including consumption of juicy fruits such as papayas, apples, pears, among others that contain water in their composition).
To prevent this, it is necessary to promote health education, improve the hygienic-sanitary conditions of markets and communities in general as a way of promoting, preserving and prolonging PUBLIC HEALTH.
Gastritis and Gastric Health
Gastric Health is one of the most relevant concerns in human health, with gastrointestinal infections being among the main illnesses that affect humans.
Among gastric problems, we have GASTRITIS AND GASTRIC ULCERS as the main public health problems. Gastritis and gastric ulcers normally result from inflammation and corrosion of the walls of the stomach (gastric mucosa) and are generally associated (caused) by the bacterium Helicobacter pylor, which, according to the literature, this bacterium settles on these walls (of the stomach) and starts to release urease that ends up altering the normal pH of the stomach (acid), which leads to inflammation and corrosion of the mucous membranes and consequent gastritis or ulcers, respectively.
In addition to bacterial infections, gastritis and gastric ulcers are associated with several factors, with emphasis on prolonged fasting, chemical substances including drugs, alcohol, foods with strong seasonings including chilli, which ends up causing inflammation of the stomach walls and/or corrosion. of the same, resulting in the appearance of wounds and consequent gastritis or ulcers, respectively.
Among patients with gastritis and/or ulcers, one of the dilemmas is associated with the foods to consume in order to minimize the sensation of pain and discomfort.

chemistry investigatory project
The development of nanogold-based cancer therapy could revolutionize oncology by providing a more targeted, less invasive treatment option. This project contributes to the growing body of research aimed at harnessing nanotechnology for medical applications, paving the way for future clinical trials and potential commercial applications.
Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide, prompting the need for innovative treatment methods. Nanotechnology offers promising new approaches, including the use of gold nanoparticles (nanogold) for targeted cancer therapy. Nanogold particles possess unique physical and chemical properties that make them suitable for drug delivery, imaging, and photothermal therapy.
Congestive Heart failure is caused by low cardiac output and high sympathetic discharge. Diuretics reduce preload, ACE inhibitors lower afterload, beta blockers reduce sympathetic activity, and digitalis has inotropic effects. Newer medications target vasodilation and myosin activation to improve heart efficiency while lowering energy requirements. Combination therapy, following an assessment of cardiac function and volume status, is the most effective strategy to heart failure care.
CLASSIFICATION OF H1 ANTIHISTAMINICS-
FIRST GENERATION ANTIHISTAMINICS-
1)HIGHLY SEDATIVE-DIPHENHYDRAMINE,DIMENHYDRINATE,PROMETHAZINE,HYDROXYZINE 2)MODERATELY SEDATIVE- PHENARIMINE,CYPROHEPTADINE, MECLIZINE,CINNARIZINE
3)MILD SEDATIVE-CHLORPHENIRAMINE,DEXCHLORPHENIRAMINE
TRIPROLIDINE,CLEMASTINE
SECOND GENERATION ANTIHISTAMINICS-FEXOFENADINE,
LORATADINE,DESLORATADINE,CETIRIZINE,LEVOCETIRIZINE,
AZELASTINE,MIZOLASTINE,EBASTINE,RUPATADINE. Mechanism of action of 2nd generation antihistaminics-
These drugs competitively antagonize actions of
histamine at the H1 receptors.
Pharmacological actions-
Antagonism of histamine-The H1 antagonists effectively block histamine induced bronchoconstriction, contraction of intestinal and other smooth muscle and triple response especially wheal, flare and itch. Constriction of larger blood vessel by histamine is also antagonized.
2) Antiallergic actions-Many manifestations of immediate hypersensitivity (type I reactions)are suppressed. Urticaria, itching and angioedema are well controlled.3) CNS action-The older antihistamines produce variable degree of CNS depression. But in case of 2nd gen antihistaminics there is less CNS depressant property as these cross BBB to significantly lesser extent.
4) Anticholinergic action- many H1 blockers
in addition antagonize muscarinic actions of ACh. BUT IN 2ND gen histaminics there is Higher H1 selectivitiy : no anticholinergic side effects
Gene therapy can be broadly defined as the transfer of genetic material to cure a disease or at least to improve the clinical status of a patient.
One of the basic concepts of gene therapy is to transform viruses into genetic shuttles, which will deliver the gene of interest into the target cells.
Safe methods have been devised to do this, using several viral and non-viral vectors.
In the future, this technique may allow doctors to treat a disorder by inserting a gene into a patient's cells instead of using drugs or surgery.
The biggest hurdle faced by medical research in gene therapy is the availability of effective gene-carrying vectors that meet all of the following criteria:
Protection of transgene or genetic cargo from degradative action of systemic and endonucleases,
Delivery of genetic material to the target site, i.e., either cell cytoplasm or nucleus,
Low potential of triggering unwanted immune responses or genotoxicity,
Economical and feasible availability for patients .
Viruses are naturally evolved vehicles that efficiently transfer their genes into host cells.
Choice of viral vector is dependent on gene transfer efficiency, capacity to carry foreign genes, toxicity, stability, immune responses towards viral antigens and potential viral recombination.
There are a wide variety of vectors used to deliver DNA or oligo nucleotides into mammalian cells, either in vitro or in vivo.
The most common vector system based on retroviruses, adenoviruses, herpes simplex viruses, adeno associated viruses.

Life is too short not to spend each day the way you choose. I’ve found
that it is possible to live that way, through Arbonne. With hard work and

persistence, you can take this business all the way to the top. If you can
be friendly, self-motivated and a good copycat, you can achieve success,
and in turn have the ability to reach your dreams. What is success? It
is living the life you desire by spending your time and finances the way
you choose. The definition of success is not living the life someone else
chooses for you.
I never really knew anything like Arbonne existed. My elementary school
teaching career made all of my choices for me — my schedule, my vaca-
tions, my family time, how much I could squeeze into the offering plate …
what for? Why couldn’t I have more so that I could give more, be more
and do more? When I was first introduced to Arbonne, I never would
have believed that in one short year, I’d be a Regional Vice President
driving a white Mercedes-benz, nor did I expect that I could more than
replace my teaching salary. I never imagined that two years later, I would
be a National Vice President taking trips to Hawaii, Cancún and Paris.
Valerie’s Why: son, Greggor.
I first learned of the Arbonne business opportunity at a spa party hosted
by a friend. I listened on the edge of my seat as Katie, my soon-to-be-
sponsor, shared about the products and opportunity. Honestly, I thought
there was no way I could do this business because I was so busy with
teaching, coaching, earning a Master’s degree and working another
part-time job! I lived in a tiny town and didn’t know very many people. I
had no sales experience.

somehow, though, as I sat there listening to Katie, I knew I needed to
take the information home with me. It was summer vacation and I was
busy getting ready to start my first-grade class again. However, I had just
spent my summer trying to think of little businesses I could start on my own
so that I could get out from under a boss. As I sat in church on sunday
a few weeks prior to the Presentation, I began praying that God would
bring something like this into my life. I still have a little red piece of paper
in my bible that I was writing goals and ideas on. You see, I knew there
was more for me and that I could do something that would allow me
to be a stay-at-home mom and not worry about money, yet still make a
