UX is a very personal thing. However, I have found several practices that, by themselves have shown to improve performance. Retention, Accessibility, and Conversion.

UX playbook: Real world user exercisesInVision App
Users are full of surprises. And they have a way of finding confusing spots in a product even if your team meticulously planned and designed it. In this session, our very own Clark Wimberly walked us through a number of fun and challenging exercises aimed at keeping users happy.
Working with frog's UX experts, Melinda curated, collated and edited the GE User Experience Playbook for all those charged with designing GE products and services.
UX design (or user experience design) is becoming an increasingly important field for business owners around the world. Good UX design can make a website many times more profitable, while poor UX design can put a company out of business in the right situations. It's worth taking a look to determine if YOUR business could be furthered by some great user experience design.

Design for Professionals - Big (D)esign Conference 2014Design4Pros
Any football fan will tell you: the plays they run in high school would never cut it in the NFL. At the highest levels of the sport, playbooks are tailored to the skills of athletes who run faster, hit harder, kick longer, and throw with precision.
Designing software for expert users is no different. If you call your plays from the same UX playbook that you use for consumer apps, you will get creamed on the field.
Veteran interaction designers Alan Baumgarten and Ben Judy will share examples and show you the plays that can help you score and maybe even win when you face the humbling challenge of designing for highly trained professionals who use software.
Along the way you will discover the essential plays that must be in your Pro UX playbook if you hope to compete at this level. You will also learn a few boneheaded moves--used by most UX professionals--that will knock you to the turf faster than an All-Pro linebacker.
This is the deck for a talk I gave at the Brisbane UX and IxDA meetup group on creating and using personas. I've had to remove the case study slides in order to make this available to a wider audience.
July 30 , 2013, 7pm - 9:00pm @ OPODZ, a co-working space in Downtown LA
Instructors: Lane Halley (Carbon Five) & Jaime Levy (JLR Interactive)
This is a 2-hour, hands-on workshop geared toward digital designers. You will learn Lean UX techniques that can be used immediately with your clients and teams.
The following topics will be covered along with hands on exercises:
What is Lean UX?
Defining the Product & Customer
Exploring Key User Experiences
Validating the Customer and Idea with Qualitative Research
In today’s technology-driven world, digital projects are not judged by how fast or attractive they are but rather by their ability to consistently offer memorable and engaging experiences for users. In this workshop, attendees will learn the key concepts and methods of User Experience (UX) and how a combination of design thinking and experience-centered strategy can help researchers and practitioners create digital tools that consistently engage users on both cognitive and emotional levels. Held as part of 2016 #NYCDHweek.
Tutorial: As a UX practitioner working in complex environments you have to be flexible, since commonly-used user-centred design techniques may not work. In this tutorial, we provide insights into how you can approach UX problems in complex fields with confidence.
With concrete examples from our experience of designing services for life scientists, we describe approaches you can use to characterise specialist users, and translate their requirements into successful designs. In the hands-on activity, you will experiment with our unique (and recently published) ‘canvas sort’ technique, for prioritising large numbers of data items and modelling their interactions.
So if you work in UX in a complex environment - such as in scientific research, pharmaceuticals, engineering, technology, finance, or others - join us to learn how to survive when things get complicated!

Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

Transforming Brand Perception and Boosting Profitabilityaaryangarg12
In today's digital era, the dynamics of brand perception, consumer behavior, and profitability have been profoundly reshaped by the synergy of branding, social media, and website design. This research paper investigates the transformative power of these elements in influencing how individuals perceive brands and products and how this transformation can be harnessed to drive sales and profitability for businesses.
Through an exploration of brand psychology and consumer behavior, this study sheds light on the intricate ways in which effective branding strategies, strategic social media engagement, and user-centric website design contribute to altering consumers' perceptions. We delve into the principles that underlie successful brand transformations, examining how visual identity, messaging, and storytelling can captivate and resonate with target audiences.
Methodologically, this research employs a comprehensive approach, combining qualitative and quantitative analyses. Real-world case studies illustrate the impact of branding, social media campaigns, and website redesigns on consumer perception, sales figures, and profitability. We assess the various metrics, including brand awareness, customer engagement, conversion rates, and revenue growth, to measure the effectiveness of these strategies.
The results underscore the pivotal role of cohesive branding, social media influence, and website usability in shaping positive brand perceptions, influencing consumer decisions, and ultimately bolstering sales and profitability. This paper provides actionable insights and strategic recommendations for businesses seeking to leverage branding, social media, and website design as potent tools to enhance their market position and financial success.
2. Theory
Digital UX is to make very difficult decisions with screen space,
interactions, content, and branding.
Then, follow up with rigorous monitoring, testing, and subtle
improvements.
It takes time (patience), monetary investment, trust in the
processes, and most importantly a great team.
7. Accessibility.Fonts
Use larger fonts.

Fine… I’ll give you TWO.

weight extremes make it seem like TWO.)

Luke Wroblewski writes of a study that determined top-aligned labels result in the shortest completion times, due to the reduced amount of eye movement needed. Placeholder text (a.k.a. hint text), on the other hand, is generally agreed to be the opposite of helpful. Including the label as placeholder causes it to disappear once the field gains focus, meaning the user can no longer view it. This causes strain on short-term memory and increases the chances of error.
Tab tested.
A mask only appears once a user focuses on a field, preventing the scanning issue. Masks format the text automatically, while the field is being filled out, allowing users to focus on the required data and more easily notice errors.
