Users and roles sitefinity guide
1. Users and Roles : Sitefinity Guide
Roles are an efficient way to manage permissions for groups of users as they classify users with similar
characteristics and responsibilities. Roles determine which parts of Sitefinity CMS a user can view.
Sitefinity CMS has built-in roles created by default, which have certain permissions assigned to them.
For example, Authors, Editors , or Designers. You can delete/edit permissions assigned for these
roles, if you want. Below provided steps along with screens to create a new role exclusive for backend
access.
1. Login to sitefintiy backend with any account having administrative privilege. Click on
administration and select roles from it. Administration - > Roles
2. Click on "Create a role" button.
2. 3. Provide the name for new role and then click on create button.
4. Find the newly created role from the roles list displayed and click on the permissions
corresponding to the role.
3. 5. You can see the list of well classified permissions which includes several categories such as
Backend , Export/Import etc. Click on change button of the Backend to alter the
permissions.
6. Once you have edited the permissions, click on Done button.
4. 7. Click on Back to all items to navigate back.
8. Now you can create a new user and assign him this role. Also you can assign the new role to an
already existing user. For that, click on Administration and select Users .
5. 9. Now a list of existing users is displayed. If you want to create a new user and assign the newly
created role, then click on Create a User button. If you want to assign the role to an existing
user, just click on the user to which you want to assign the role.
10. Scroll down to find the Roles section of the particular user. From the checkbox displayed,
select/unselect the roles which you want to assign/unassign to that user. Once you are done,
click on Save Changes button.
