2013 Giving In Numbers - December 2013 VolunteerMatch BPN WebinarVolunteerMatch
This document summarizes a webinar presented by CECP (Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy) on corporate giving trends based on their annual research. The webinar discusses trends found in CECP's Giving in Numbers report such as an overall increase in corporate giving from 2007-2012 despite economic challenges. It also examines giving levels across industries and regions, as well as trends in employee engagement programs. Common employee engagement initiatives discussed include paid volunteer time off, volunteer awards programs, and company-wide days of service.
This document summarizes research on lone parent incomes, work incentives, and recent policy changes in Ireland. It finds that reforms to the One-Parent Family Payment have resulted in small income losses for employed lone parents but neutral or small gains for non-earning parents. The changes also slightly weakened financial work incentives. Additionally, the analysis shows that childcare costs significantly impact lone parents' financial work incentives, but the Affordable Childcare Subsidy improves incentives by reducing costs. Future work is needed to examine the behavioral impacts of these policies on lone parent employment, education, and poverty outcomes over time.
Mandatory vs. Voluntary COVID-19 Vaccination Policies: What California Employ...Meyers Nave
Now that COVID-19 vaccines are gradually rolling out, employers are asking if they can – and should – require employees to get vaccinated and are considering what they can do if employees refuse. Given the complexity of navigating federal and state laws, MOUs, personnel rules, and practical considerations, employers should consult legal counsel before creating and implementing a mandatory or voluntary vaccination policy. Our Labor and Employment Law attorneys are assisting California employers regarding all legal issues related to COVID-19 vaccines. Our team provided a webinar on February 3 to address the myriad COVID-19 vaccination issues, including how employers can meet EEOC requirements, increase workplace safety, and minimize risk.
Navigating the Pathways of Vaccine Mandates and Current COVID-19 Litigation Meyers Nave
Employers and entities have begun to institute COVID-19 vaccine mandates and programs, and are now experiencing resistance from some employees and unions. How are employers navigating COVID mandates, resistance, and responses? In the shifting legal landscape, how are employers and entities exploring avenues to keep employees and the public safe? Where do things stand on legal challenges to vaccine mandates?
Join Meyers Nave Chair of First Amendment and Trial and Litigation Practice Groups, Deborah Fox, and Meyers Nave Chair of Labor and Employment and Workplace Investigations Practice Groups, Camille Hamilton Pating, as they provide a webinar to help private and public employers navigate this nuanced legal arena and its complex practical considerations.
The webinar covers:
Types of COVID-19 mandates including public accommodations
Types of resistance to mandates
Current litigation trends
Accommodations and required documentation

Among other topics, we discuss:
COVID-19 Health and Safety Issues: COVID-19 notification requirements (AB 685), new Cal/OSHA regulations, workers’ comp changes (SB 1159), and vaccines in the workplace (Law360 recently reported that “in-house legal professionals overwhelmingly cite employment liability as the biggest legal risk they're facing related to the global health crisis, with many readying themselves for employment litigation they believe is in the pipeline.”)
Equity in the Workplace: new pay data reporting requirements (SB 973), new FEHA regulations, and diversity training
Compensation and Wage and Hour: amendments to the AB 5 independent contractor law (AB 2257 and Prop. 22), Right of Recall ordinances, and new wage and hour developments
Leave, Benefits and Accommodations: expanded leave (SB 1383, AB 2017) and COVID-19 leave (AB 1867)

Child-related transfers: is there a room for welfare improvement?GRAPE
How does income risk affect the optimal size of the child-related transfer system? I answer this question in an overlapping generations model with endogenous fertility and PAYG social security. I show that the optimal size of the child-related transfer is increasing in income risk.
First, in the stylized model, I provide the intuition behind this result. Second, I quantify the size of welfare gains due to child-related transfer reform in a full-fledged model calibrated to the US economy.
Expansion of child-related transfer yields to welfare gain even with constant income dispersion. In a scenario with higher income dispersion, welfare gains increase from 1.08% to 1.2% of lifetime consumption.
Third, I show that in a scenario with high-income dispersion, even higher welfare gains may be obtained if the child-related transfer system has a more redistributive nature.

Estimating gender wage gap in the presence of efficiency wages -- evidence fr...GRAPE
Gender wage gap (adjusted for individual characteristics) as a phenomenon means that women are paid unjustifiably less than men, i.e. below their productivity. Meanwhile, efficiency wages as a phenomenon mean that a group of workers is paid in excess of productivity. However, productivity is typically unobservable, hence it is proxied by some observable characteristics. If efficiency wages are effective only in selected occupations and/or industries, and these happen to be dominated by men, measures of adjusted gender wage gaps will confound (possibly) below productivity compensating of women with above productivity efficiency wage prevalence. We propose to utilize endogenous switching models to estimate adjusted gender wage gaps. We find that without correction for the prevalence of efficiency wages, the estimates of the adjusted gender wage gaps tend to be substantially inflated.
Consumers and the Digital Health Information JourneyEdelman
Edelman Health recently launched results from a new study – Consumers and the Digital Health Information Journey – that focuses on how US consumers engage with and use digital health content.Partnering with Edelman Berland, they conducted research that looked at 1500 US adults consisting of Millennials (ages 18-34), the Sandwich Generation (ages 35-64) and Seniors (ages 65+). Additionally, a Caregiver group was identified that included those adults who are responsible for the health decisions of a parent or other adult relative. While the study initially set out to explore how the different generations consume and use digital health content, it soon focused on the interesting results related to the Caregiver segment.
This deck is a deep dive on the digital health behaviors and preferences of Caregivers who revealed themselves as more engaged and influential than the generational groups, including Millennials. We believe that Caregivers are an overlooked group by healthcare marketers and represent a real opportunity for targeted engagement by pharma, biotech, payers, providers and other stakeholders within the healthcare industry.
Report: How Engaged Are Employees During COVID-19?Sarah Jackson
Over 1 in 5 Canadians and Americans surveyed became unemployed, furloughed, or laid-off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with Canadians more likely to be unemployed. While most employees feel their attitude towards work has stayed the same, around a quarter of Canadians and Americans say their productivity and collaboration with coworkers has decreased since the pandemic. Canadians and Americans working for medium or large companies were more likely to report decreases in collaboration, satisfaction, trust, and engagement with their employer compared to those at smaller companies.
- According to a McKinsey survey, 39% of consumers skipped or partially paid a bill payment over the past month, with almost 1/3 skipping or partially paying their credit card payment.
- The survey also found that around 45% of consumers report they could only live off their current savings for 4 months or less.
- Nearly half of consumers remain concerned about job security, though concerns have been dropping since March. 30% of those with a credit card or auto loan expect to skip or partially pay next month's payment.

Responses to a BCG global survey of over 9,000 current and former students across ten countries make it clear that a

Study: Employee Expectations Are Changing Due to COVID-19Sarah Jackson
The survey of 831 full-time employees found that non-essential employees only want to return to the office when COVID-19 is no longer a threat and most want a staggered return. Employees expect their employers to implement various safety measures like physical barriers and hand sanitizer before returning. They also expect benefits if they contract COVID-19 at work like paid sick leave and medical coverage. Most support legal protections for businesses if employers demonstrate accountability for employee safety and communicate honestly.
- 40% of consumers skipped or partially paid a bill payment over the past month, with almost 1/3 doing so for a credit card payment
- Nearly half of consumers with a credit card and household income under $25K skipped or partially paid their credit card payment last month
- Most consumers who received a government stimulus check plan to use it to pay bills, with over 70% planning to pay insurance, auto loans, or utilities

This document summarizes the history and current state of child support policy in the UK. It discusses the origins of the policy in 1991 and major reforms in 2008 and 2012. While the original goal was to increase payments and enforcement, the system faced challenges. The 2012 reforms aimed to reduce conflict and encourage private agreements through relationship support services. However, challenges remain around supporting collaborative parenting and the effectiveness of the new operational model. Internationally, countries differ in their policy aims and levels of support provided to parents.

The survey of nearly 550 home health care professionals reveals that the two greatest challenges in 2020 are staffing shortages and changing payment models like PDGM. While payment reforms are driving increased technology adoption, over 40% do not plan to change platforms. Despite uncertainty from PDGM, nearly a quarter still view home health as a top growth area for 2020.
A new report from PwC’s Health Research Institute predicts that insurance companies will be spending more to pay for prescription drugs starting next year, from around 3% to almost 6% by 2027. Here’s more forecasts on medical spending from the report:
•Generics: Almost half of the estimated sales from the top 100 brand-name drugs won’t be affected by generic competition for another three years.
•Specialty drugs: Spending on specialty drugs — such as biologics or rare disease treatments — has already been growing over the past five years, but by 2020 these drugs may make up more than half of all U.S. drug spending.
•Chronic disease: 85% of all employer-provided insurance spending is on chronic conditions, and obesity and diabetes will be the two top conditions that will account for spending in 2020.

This newsletter provides updates on healthcare reform and its costs, workplace wellness programs, and medical clinics. It discusses how the Affordable Care Act will pay for expanding coverage, including new taxes starting in 2011-2018 on drug companies, insurers, and high-cost plans. It also links obesity to higher workers compensation costs and recommends integrating workplace safety with wellness efforts. Finally, it notes the growth of retail medical clinics and their lower costs compared to doctors' offices and emergency rooms.
Small businesses can start retirement plans to attract and retain quality employees. Paychex makes starting and managing a 401k easy and affordable for small businesses.
Small businesses can start retirement plans to attract and retain quality employees. A 401(k) allows tax-deferred growth and annual tax savings of 30-40% on contributions. To start a 401(k), businesses need only make three decisions: whether to match employee contributions, set a vesting schedule, and choose investment options. Paychex handles all legal and administrative requirements and the IRS provides a $1,500 tax credit for new plans. Retirement plans help businesses compete for workers and improve employee loyalty through low-cost benefits.

The SHRM Benefits Survey is one of the longest-running annual research reports covering trends in
employee benefits in the United States.
Each year, SHRM launches the survey to HR professionals across the country to assess the popularity
and prevalence of specific employer-offered benefits. Data users may determine short- and long-term
changes in an array of benefits employer ...

A 401k plan allows employees to save pre-tax dollars for retirement while also providing tax benefits to the business. Setting up a 401k is simple, requiring only basic decisions around employer matching contributions and investment options.
The document discusses several options for reforming Social Security in the United States. It outlines proposals to increase payroll taxes, raise or eliminate the taxable earnings maximum, change how benefits are calculated, modify retirement ages, and increase benefits for low-earners. It also discusses changing the cost-of-living adjustment, combining disability and retirement programs, and proposals to partially privatize the system through personal retirement accounts. Advocates and opponents of each approach argue about their potential effects on the long-term solvency of Social Security and retirement security.
The document discusses the pensions shortfall in the UK and how current contribution levels through auto-enrollment will not be enough for many people to achieve the target pension pots of £200,000-£250,000 by retirement. It notes that contributions may need to increase to 12.5% to help address this gap. However, increasing employer contributions could put pressure on businesses and require reviewing other costs. The article advocates for financial education programs to empower employees to make better savings decisions over their careers.

It notes that the filing deadline is April 15, 2019 for most individuals, though some have until April 17. It describes how to file for an automatic extension, which provides more time to file but not to pay taxes owed. The article advises taxpayers not to procrastinate filing and to file even if they owe money in order to limit penalties. It also discusses potential refund delays due to new IRS filters aimed at fraud.

This document discusses the financial challenges hospitals are facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic and strategies for recovery. It outlines four phases of financial recovery: receiving stimulus funds, recovering revenue, reinvesting in capabilities, and reinventing care delivery. Shifting volume to virtual care is key, but reimbursement rates are lower and competition from telehealth and retail clinics is increasing. Hospitals must optimize fixed costs like clinic space and restructure physician compensation to align with telehealth economics. Understanding true costs and developing new care models will be important for financial sustainability.

Understanding User Needs and Satisfying ThemAggregage
https://www.productmanagementtoday.com/frs/26903918/understanding-user-needs-and-satisfying-them
We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
• Present the Onion Diagram, a tool for contextualizing task-level goals
• Illustrate how customer journey maps capture activity-level and task-level goals
• Demonstrate the best approach to selection and prioritization of user-goals to address
• Highlight the crucial benchmarks, observable changes, in ensuring fulfillment of customer needs
