NETWORKING AND CCTV
SETUP
INTRODUCTION:
What is computer networking?
Computer networking is a field centered on the connectivity of
computing devices, like servers, cameras(cctv: closed-circuit
television), laptops, desktops, smartphones, printers and other
equipment. Many consumer devices communicate with each
other, like doorbells and locks, thermostats, refrigerators and
audio and visual systems, and IT professionals use computer
networking to ensure these devices function well, properly
share information and facilitate communication.
Basics of computer networking you need to know :
As a personnel working in computer networking, here are
basic concepts you typically should know:
1: SWITCHES: This serves as a controller, helping connect all your
devices to a network in a home, office, building or area like computers,
servers, printers and wireless devices. Switches communicate with each
other and with other networks, which is helpful when you want to share
resources and materials.
2: ETHERNET (cables): Ethernet is a type of cabling used to connect
hard-wired computers, servers and other mechanisms to form a
network and transport data.
3: ROUTERS: A router is a mechanism that connects networks
together and devices on those networks to the internet, giving
devices a single shared internet
4:INTERNET PROTOCOL (IP) ADDRESS: An IP address
identifies the destination and origin of computers and networks
in order to send data and information. This consist of 4 octets
such as 171.20.23
5: SERVERS: This provides services or resources to
other computers, known within a network. Servers
play a central role in facilitating communication, data
storage, and resource sharing among connected device
6: FIREWALL: firewall is a network feature and
function that protects the data and servers of an
organization or business
Types of Networks:
Local Area Network (LAN): A LAN is a network that is limited to a
small geographic area, such as a single building or a campus.
Wide Area Network (WAN): WANs cover a larger geographical area,
often spanning cities, countries, or even continents.
Metropolitan Area Network (MAN): A MAN falls between a LAN and
WAN in terms of geographic coverage, typically covering a larger area
than a single LAN but not as extensive as a WAN.
MANs are often used to connect multiple LANs within a city.
Other examples of networks are : PAN(personal area network),
CAN(campus area networks ), HAN(home area network).

SKILLS ACQUIRED:
. Installation of dahaua cctv systems
. Configuration and Installation of routers and switches
. Trouble shooting skills using wire shark
. Cabling and Cable Management using cable cabinet ,clips, ties, sleeve ,
clamps e.t.c.
CCTV SETUP:
The setup of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) can be considered part of computer
networking, particularly when it involves connecting and configuring the cameras, recorders,
and other components within a network infrastructure.
COMPONENTS REQUIRED:
.Cameras e.g anolog cameras , ip cameras
.Recorders e.g, Dvr(digital video recorder), Nvr(network video recorder)
.Display
. Transmission e.g fibre optics cables , coaxial cables, twisted pair cables, anolog means, digital
means, internet or remote viewing .
.Video management
SYSTEM TOPOLOGY : This refers to the physical or logical layout or arrangement of
the components that form a network.
TYPES OF SYSTEM TOPOLOGY: bus, mesh star, tree, ring, line, hybrid e.t.c
SYSTEM TOPOLOGY OF CCTV
SYSTEMS:
PROJECT HIGHLIGHT:
. Installation of routers ,cctv cameras and systems which were linked to their
monitors and servers at NIGERITE in their offices and factories
.Installation of smart door locks at EKO HOTEL
. Installation of a full color cctv system at the
POST SQAURE in various office spaces
CONCLUSION: .
I extend my sincere gratitude to LINK SPEC TECHNOLOGIES for
providing me with the opportunity and to my mentors and
collegues who have been helpful in shaping my understanding
of computer networking in the context of CCtv system.
THANK YOU
