Freedom of speech and freedom of the press are two important rights .docxlaquandabignell
Freedom of speech and freedom of the press are two important rights individuals have in the United States. Today, there
are so many news outlets featured on the radio, television, cable, and the Internet that are competing for our attention to
the degree that some news media emphasize very sensitive and controversial subjects as a means to simply attract an
audience. Some individuals criticize this practice as being harmful to society. Yet, others claim it is appropriate to report
this type of speech in such a fashion.
Research the topic,
Freedom of the Press
, and write a research paper that explains your views on freedom of the press
and whether this trend toward reporting sensitive topics does or does not have a negative impact on some work
environments.
PAPER MUST HAVE:
Introduction
- State your thesis and the purpose of your research paper clearly. What is the chief reason you are writing
the paper? State also how you plan to approach your topic. Is this a factual report, a book review, a comparison, or an
analysis of a problem? Explain briefly the major points you plan to cover in your paper and why readers should be
interested in your topic.
Body
- Present your arguments to support your thesis statement. This should be one to three paragraphs in length.
Conclusion
- Restate or reword your thesis. Summarize your arguments. Explain why you have come to this particular
conclusion.
Your paper should be three to five pages in total length, using 12-point double-spaced Times Roman font using APA
format.

A proposal is a persuasive document that offers a solution to an identified problem or need. Proposals attempt to sell an idea, a product or service, or a new concept or plan. Proposals may be brief or long. A one-page request for a room change written to a club adviser and a 2,000-page multivolume document selling a new type of amphibious tank to the Department of Defense are examples of proposals.
Proposals may be informal or formal, solicited or unsolicited. Solicited proposals are invited, that is, the awarding organization calls for proposals from interested individuals/parties, usually via an RFP. The awarding organization lays down the requirements that the proposal should contain. In many cases, a standard format is provided for the parties to submit their proposals. Unsolicited proposals are a little more detailed because they must establish more background information. In this assignment, you'll have a choice to write an unsolicited or solicited proposal.
· Overall Goal: In this project, you will be writing a proposal for a company or agency of your choosing. It can be one that you already work for or perhaps hope to work for one day, but you should know the company in order to evaluate its issues. If you don't have a workplace in mind, you can use Temple as your workplace. Your ultimate task is to write a persuasive proposal about a change you would like to see. You will begin by identifying a problem, issue, or conflict and providing some background on why this problem exists. You will then construct a convincing and tactful argument about why this change is both necessary and beneficial. Additionally, you will use workplace observations, informal interviews with co-workers, and academic research articles to provide support and justification for your proposal. You should view your intended audience as the people, committee(s), or governing body with the authority to enact your proposal.
· Purpose: This assignment has three main goals. First, gathering research from a variety of sources will help you to find credible evidence to support the change you will argue for in your proposal. Second, this assignment will give you practice in collecting primary-source research through close observation and interviewing your co-workers. Third, through searching for secondary source research, such as trade or academic journals and online databases, you will gain experience finding, presenting, and citing secondary-source research in your writing.
· Audience: You need to clearly define the audience ...

Using the Powerpoint presentation for inspiration, research a technology, idea or concept that you would like to see implemented in the field of public health, food security, public art, or climate change adaptation to address an issue or problem you have identified. Your goal is to write a short paper in which you try to convince your audience to adopt this new technology, concept or idea. This paper is based on the concept of a policy briefing, though we will be adapting the format to suit our needs.
Audience: your audience should be a person or group of people who have the capacity to implement the technology, idea or concept you are proposing. For example, if you think that a great climate change adaptation idea is to build porous sidewalks and alleys as they have in Chicago and other cities, then you would address your paper to city council. If you think that Camosun College should have more public art, then you would address your paper to Camosun College Administration. So do a bit of research and discover whom to address your paper to.

Classic Model for an Argument
No one structure fits all written arguments. Below is a basic outline for an argumentative or
persuasive essay. The major sections can be reversed, starting with refuting opposition and
ending with reasons for your position. Let your topic help guide you.
This is only one possible outline or organization. Remember that an emphatic structure works
for many arguments, although a chronological or cumulative approach could also work.
I. Introduction
o Your introductory paragraph sets the stage or the context for the position you are arguing for.
Consider the techniques we covered in class: anecdote, quotation, dramatic fact, etc.

understand your position, including important theories or terms.
B. This could be part of the introduction, but may work as its own section or be
incorporated within the essay as needed.
III. Your Position
o All evidence you present in this section should support your position. This is the heart of
your essay. Each supporting paragraph should have a topic sentence that clearly relates to the
thesis. Remember to balance “telling” (explanation of your point) and “showing” (evidence for
that point). Remember the three primary appeals: ethos, pathos, and logos.
o Types of evidence include:
· primary sources – interview with someone who works or studies in the field, original
documents such as laws, census data etc., and surveys.
· Opinions/observations from recognized authorities
· Statistics, studies, published research
A. Keeping assault weapons out of private citizens’ hands can lower the increasing
occurrences of barbaric public slayings
1. Newtown Elementary mass shooting

1. 12% favor ban (Much 92 Timetable News)
2. Organizational endorsements
3. Nat'l Sherriff's Assoc./lntn'l Assoc. of Police Chiefs
C. The monetary and human costs incurred by crimes committed with assault weapons

Using autoethnography in a qualitative research,consider a resid.docxgidmanmary
Using autoethnography in a qualitative research,
consider a resident of Sedgwick County, Colorado community to be the researcher of this study? Over the past 16 years, only two building permits for new housing construction have been issued in Sedgwick County, Colorado. This is consistent with the depopulation (particularly of younger persons) and economic diminution that is attributed to a declining rainfall since the 1970s. These are quantitative details. It is unclear how much of the depopulation was due to perceived opportunities elsewhere, to copycat or fad behavior, and to perceived change in local economic opportunity.
This is the only situation where the researcher can offer his/her own perspective as data for the study. How does the researcher guard against the limitations of his/her existing bias? How does he/she make sure that the data collected will be informative to a larger audience? [250 words, 2 references, 2 Intext Citations, Original Writings only]

Research Paper
Tone and Terminology: Make sure that the tone you use in your writing is appropriate. In most cases, your tone should be professional and concise. Avoid jargon that your audience would not know. (And please remember that I need to understand what you are writing). Your goal is to communicate, not to confuse.
Purpose: Your purpose is to persuade your reader to adopt the technology, idea or concept that you are presenting. Make sure to inform your reader what the current issue or problem is, as well as how it will be addressed by adopting the technology, idea or concept you propose. To do this, you will have to research what the current dialogue or conversation on the topic is. A strong persuasive paper will inclu.

Classic Model for an Argument No one structure fits all wrVinaOconner450
Classic Model for an Argument
No one structure fits all written arguments. Below is a basic outline for an argumentative or
persuasive essay. The major sections can be reversed, starting with refuting opposition and
ending with reasons for your position. Let your topic help guide you.
This is only one possible outline or organization. Remember that an emphatic structure works
for many arguments, although a chronological or cumulative approach could also work.
I. Introduction
o Your introductory paragraph sets the stage or the context for the position you are arguing for.
Consider the techniques we covered in class: anecdote, quotation, dramatic fact, etc.
o This introduction should include the thesis statement that provides the claim (what you are
arguing for).
A. Your thesis:
1. states what your position on an issue is-NO FIRST PERSON-NO ANNOUNCEMENTS
2. usually appears within the introduction
3. should be a declarative sentence and often contains emphatic language (should, ought,
must)
B. Sample Argumentative Thesis
1. The production, sale, and possession of assault weapons for private citizens should be
banned in the U.S.
II. Background Information
A. This section of your paper gives the reader the basic information he or she needs to
understand your position, including important theories or terms.
2. Columbine School Shooting
3. Virginia Tech shooting
4. How did these individuals gain access to weapons?
B. The ban on assault weapons is backed heavily by public opinion, major organizations,
and even law enforcement.
1. 12% favor ban (Much 92 Timetable News)
2. Organizational endorsements
3. Nat'l Sherriff's Assoc./lntn'l Assoc. of Police Chiefs
C. The monetary and human costs incurred by crimes committed with assault weapons
are too great to ignore.
1. 10,561 murders in 1990 by handguns
2. Study of 131 injured patients’ medical expenses paid by public funds

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Unit V Research PaperFreedom of speech and freedom of the press ar.docx
1. Unit V Research Paper
Freedom of speech and freedom of the press are two important
rights individuals have in the United States. Today, there are so
many news outlets featured on the radio, television, cable, and
the Internet that are competing for our attention to the degree
that some news media emphasize very sensitive and
controversial subjects as a means to simply attract an audience.
Some individuals criticize this practice as being harmful to
society. Yet, others claim it is appropriate to report this type of
speech in such a fashion.
Research the topic, Freedom of the Press, and write a research
paper that explains your views on freedom of the press and
whether this trend toward reporting sensitive topics does or
does not have a negative impact on some work environments.
Make sure that your paper has the following components:
BBA 3361, Professionalism in the Workplace
Introduction - State your thesis and the purpose of your research
paper clearly. What is the chief reason you are writing the
paper? State also how you plan to approach your topic. Is this a
factual report, a book review, a comparison, or an analysis of a
problem? Explain briefly the major points you plan to cover in
your paper and why readers should be interested in your topic.
Body - Present your arguments to support your thesis statement.
This should be one to three paragraphs in length.
Conclusion - Restate or reword your thesis. Summarize your
arguments. Explain why you have come to this particular
conclusion.
Your paper should be three to five pages in total length, using
12-point double-spaced Times Roman font using APA format.
