This document outlines a lesson plan for a second grade writing unit. Over the course of a week, students will learn the five steps of the writing process - prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing - and use those steps to write their own story. Each day of the week is dedicated to working on a different step. The teacher will provide materials like books, paper, and computers to support the students as they progress through the writing process.

sequence (beginning, middle, end,
containing a main idea, supporting
details).
 RLA.0.2.2.4 – Construct a story using the
five-step writing process: 1. pre-writing, 2.
draft, 3. revise, 4. edit, 5. publish.
 Learn basic elements of a story: 1.
characters, 2. setting, beg., mid., end.

4.  Throughout the week, students will learn
about the basic five-step writing process.
 Each student will construct a story using
the writing process.
Monday: Read a story together – Identify the
beginning, middle, end, main idea, etc..
Explain the writing process.
Tuesday: Pre-writing
Wednesday: Draft
Thursday: Revise / Edit
Friday: Publish
