ONE WEEK LESSON PLAN
Day 1
Objective: Access prior studentsʼ knowledge about the
bones and muscles in the human body.
Materials Needed: Student laptops, personal laptop, and
white board
Plan: The first 5 minutes will be devoted to a basic
introduction of the lessons that will be given this week. The
next 10 - 15 minutes of the block, the students will create
a What I Know, What I want to Know, and What I learned
(KWL) chart.
What I Know What I Want to Know What I learned
The students will create this chart on their laptops using a
pages document. They will insert a table that has 3
columns and a minimum of 5 rows. I will demonstrate how
to do this by projecting it onto the white board.
The rest of the class will be spent discussing what the
results of the studentsʼ KWL charts.
Assessment: Teacher observation of KWL charts and
discussion.

Day 2
Objective: Students will become familiar with the
vocabulary words for the bones and muscles unit.
Materials Needed: Student laptop, personal laptop, white
board, Discovery Education website, and a list of the
words for each student.
Plan: Students will open a pages document and insert a
table with 2 columns and 12 rows. They will type the
vocabulary words provided in the first column. The
students will go to discoveryeducation.com (this is linked
to the students school webpage) to access the definitions.

Assessment: Completed word definition chart.

Day 3
Objective: Students will learn about the ways muscles
and bones work together.
Materials: Student laptops and ear buds.
Plan: Students will watch the Life Science: Human Biology
video on Discovery Education. They will access this via
the school website.
Assessment: Class discussion concerning essential
questions. How do bones and muscles work together?
How are muscles and bones attached? How do the
muscles and bones protect our organs?

Day 4
Objective: Students will learn about the bones of the body
Materials: Student laptop and ear buds
Plan: Students will go to http://www.brainpopjr.com/health/
bodies/bones/ and complete video activity.
Assessment: Students will complete online video
quizzes.

Day 5
Objective: Students will complete the Muscles and Bones
exploration on Discovery Education. Then they will
complete a vocabulary test on the words from day 2.
Materials: Student laptop and earbuds
Plan: Students will go to the hyperlinked activity via their
angel accounts and complete the hands on activity. They
will be given 10 minutes to do this. The rest of the class
will be spent taking a vocabulary quiz on the words they
received on day 2.
Assessment: Vocabulary quiz

Bones and Muscles Vocabulary Quiz
Directions: Match the definition for each of the word below
A. A group of tissues that perform a specific function or group of functions.
