This unit plan spans a week and teaches first grade students about coins, their identification, values, and use for making purchases. Each day focuses on a different coin-related skill: Day 1 introduces coins and their purpose, Day 2 teaches coin identification, Day 3 covers coin values, Day 4 has students counting and comparing coins, and Day 5 assesses learning through a simulated class store where students make purchases using coins. The goal is for students to reach 100% accuracy on coin identification and values by the end of the week and 95% accuracy in applying their knowledge in the store assessment.

1. Abstract
I will be teaching a first grade class ages 6-7. They are mostly Caucasian, with a
few African Americans. The first graders have little knowledge of coins and
how to count them. This unit plan will be a week of learning how to identify
coins, their values, and how to use them. I will be finishing off the week with a
store where the children will have to purchase things with accuracy.

2. Monday
My 1st grade students will know what coins are as well as what they are
used for with 100% accuracy by the end of the day.
I will use today to introduce the students to coins and help them
understand that it is our currency used to purchase things. I will let them
know that this knowledge will help them Friday when it is their turn to use
money to buy things at our store we will be creating.
I will be using large props for visual aid and discuss the meanings. I will
briefly address the values. To get a feel for what the students already know, I
will ask simple questions about what the coins look like and their worth.
I will ask the students to write down something they learned and something
they already knew before the lesson is over.

3. Tuesday
I will use today to teach my 1st grade students how to identify
pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. They will be able to identify
these coins with 100% accuracy by the end of the day.
I will show them the youtube video (needs fixed) I created that shows
each coin as well as use my photo shopped picture to point out which
coins are which and what they are. I will also fill an opaque bag with
random coins, let the children choose it without looking and guess
which coin they have based on the features taught using the large
props.
I will end the day with a bell ringer asking them to name the coins and
one thing about each.

4. Wednesday
Today will be used to teach the students the values of the coins. The
students will know the value of each of the coins introduced by the end
of the day with 100% accuracy.
I will use a youtube video song

students and help them learn using visual and hearing aids. I have
already viewed the video and know it is appropriate. I will also use my
poster to count the values.
The bell ringer at the end of the day will be me telling them coins and
them answering what they think the value is.

5. Thursday
My 1st grade students will be able to count and compare the coins
previously learned with 97% accuracy by the end of the day.
I will reuse my poster, the same youtube video with the song, as well
as a webquest I created (http://zunal.com/webquest.php?w=215852).
I also will use my youtube storytelling video (needs fixed) to put the
math lesson into a narrative. I will continue using the props to include
the students in comparing greater and lesser amounts of money.
I will introduce the students to the plan for Friday. They will be
putting what they learned in their lessons in use by participating in
their own store.

6. Friday
Today my first graders will be assessed with a store project. The
students will know how to identify the coins, their values, and how to
use them by the end of the day with 95% accuracy. Review will follow
the next week.
The students will be a customer and will purchase things in a make
believe store. I will provide simple purchases such as
erasers, pencils, stickers, and rulers. The students must be able to
count the amount of fake money provided to “buy” the things in the
store. I will use this to assess what they learned, but also allow them
to participate in an activity they will have to use in the real world.
