6 Dear Ridley…6 Dear Ridley…
I’m a Sea Turtle…I’m a Sea Turtle…
DiD you know…DiD you know…
I am one of the Earth's
most ancient creatures.
I have been around for
110  million years,
since the time of the
dinosaurs.
I eat jellyfish,
seaweed, crabs,
shrimp, snails,
algae and
mollusks
When the young
hatch out of their
eggs, they make their
way to the ocean.
Few survive to
adulthood.
I lay between
70-190 eggs
If you encounter a nesting sea
turtle like me on the beach, stay
clear. Do not shine lights or take
flash photographs. If frightened, I
will return to the water where I
will drop my eggs.
Some of our species can stay
under water for as long as five
hours. Our heart rate slows to
conserve oxygen: nine minutes
may elapse between heartbeats.
