Uniqlo is currently the 4th largest global apparel retailer by sales. In 2012, Uniqlo generated $8.14 billion in sales, with 90% coming from Japan and 10% from overseas markets. However, Uniqlo aims to reach a 50-50 domestic to international sales split by 2013 and become primarily an international brand, deriving most sales from outside Japan, by 2014. To achieve this goal, Uniqlo will need to leverage its strengths in Japanese quality control and product design while expanding operations globally through localization in new international markets. Challenges include maintaining strong supplier relationships, managing risks across diverse markets, and educating a multicultural workforce.
