Indonesia has a long and diverse history, with evidence of human habitation dating back 1.5-1.8 million years. Early kingdoms emerged in Java and Sumatra by 300 BCE under Indian influence. The powerful Buddhist Srivijaya kingdom arose in Sumatra in the 7th century and controlled much of Indonesia until the Hindu Majapahit Empire took over in 1290. Portugal and the Dutch colonized parts of Indonesia starting in the 16th century. Indonesia gained independence after four years of revolution against the Dutch from 1945-1949. India and Indonesia have close cultural and economic ties as two large democracies in Asia, with a goal of doubling bilateral trade to $25 billion by 2015.

The official language is Indonesian and the majority religion is Islam. Key exports include oil, gas and minerals with the economy being the 16th largest in the world.

The Youth Association DRONI was established in 2003 to promote a modern, tolerant, healthy and educated society through supporting the physical, spiritual, and educational development of young people. It creates educational initiatives and activities related to human rights, gender issues, civil education, conflict prevention, and youth participation for its target groups of children, youth, students, teachers, and internally displaced persons in the Caucasian region. It has hosted over 30 long-term and group short-term volunteers since 2008 through programs like EVS Caravan and cooperates with NGOs across Europe.
My city
Uşak is a small city located in western Turkey with a population of 300,000 people. It experiences cold winters around 10°C and hot summers from 25-40°C. The city is known for its delicious home cooking, spa centers and hotels open year-round, many historical places, and for producing traditional Tarhana soup, carpets, rugs, and being home to Lydian treasures and the second biggest canyon in the world.
Our school
The building was originally constructed as a church in the 19th century and was later used as a high school for girls until 1961. It is now a secondary school located in Uşak, Turkey with around 500 students, taught in classes of 20-25 students who enjoy social, cultural, and educational activities. One successful former student, Sena, won an award from the provincial governor for her math project in 2012.
