Collective bargaining through unions can help improve workplace safety and health. According to data from 2009 on the AFL-CIO website, over 4,000 workers are killed on the job each year in the US. Having employees and employers jointly create safety laws through collective bargaining allows those most at risk to have a voice in improving conditions. Unions today continue supporting workers by providing safety gear, fighting discrimination, and assisting workers to file claims for injuries in order to promote healthier workplaces.

Re: Employment Law Compliance Plan
Mr. Smith:
With reference to the email sent to Nov.1, these are and will be the measures to take regarding your request
With the purpose of improving the operation of the company, it is necessary to review and update the policies of the company, as well as everything related to labor laws. This will provide the necessary means to comply with what is established by law and in turn with the company staff. If everything related to these issues is kept up to date, errors are less likely to be made when corrective measures are taken, just as it is of the utmost importance that all the members of the directive know in depth the laws that protect the workforce in all aspects. It is necessary to carry out the appropriate training as soon as possible. Remember that as a team, meeting these requirements is completely necessary.

Week 4 in Review
There are inherent risks in allowing emotional influences to facilitate one's decision, especially when attempting to balance moral and legal aspects of a situation. Ethics and integrity are certainly at the forefront in regard to how Black will approach a viable solution. In the short term, honesty can be quite expensive. Many people do the right thing just because it is the right thing to do.
The Paycheck Fairness Act is another step in the right direction. As many have noted, the journey has been a long one, but the journey continues. "Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) and Representative Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) reintroduced the Paycheck Fairness Act. The bill would provide a much-needed update to the Equal Pay Act of 1963 by closing some of the loopholes that have made the law less effective over time. So while the Ledbetter Act gave employees back their day in court to challenge a wage gap, the Paycheck Fairness Act would give employees the legal tools they need to challenge the wage gap itself." http://thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog/economy-a-budget/279603-our-journey-is-not-complete-equal-pay-requires-passage-of-paycheck-fairness-act#ixzz2Rf2EJWoY
It would seem the accounting practices opened the door for the leaders to do the wrong. As Dessler (2011) explained ". . . the lack of accounting transparency enabled the company's managers to make Enron's financial performance look better than it actually was" (p. 258). This lack of good accounting methods is really where the problems began, yet so many people overlook it. Why? It is too easy to blame leadership. It would seem that the leaders at E.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
1. Union Health and Safety By: Britteny Gawlik and Denise Rakovec
Is Collective bargaining by unions a better way to improve workplace safety and health than pervasive
government regulations?
Collective bargaining by unions can be a better way to improve the workplace safety and health.
I believe there should be more rules. By looking the AFL-CIO’s website in 2009, 4,340 workers were
killed on their job (12 workers every day). Around 50,000 workers died from occupational diseases.
There are more than 4.1 million injuries and illnesses reported that are work-related. By having
collective bargaining employers and employees can help make safety and health laws. The employees
are the ones who are risking their lives every day at work; they are the ones who know what is safe and
what is not. This year in Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker nearly ended collective bargaining in
Wisconsin because he believes the expense is too high, but according to article 23 of the Universal
declaration everyone has the right to form and to join trade unions for the protection of his interest.
Find the most recent annual report, “Death on the Job: The Toll of Neglect, “posted each April on the
AFL-CIO’s website. What do you learn about the current status of occupational health and safety in your
state?
What I learned by looking at AFL-CIO’s website so many lives end every day because of injuries
at work. No one should have to go to work and worry about their lives. I think there should be health
testing’s every year for selected jobs. By having health screening it could lower our death toll on
occupational diseases. The number of inspectors OSHA has is not nearly enough to cover the inspections
of businesses and things that need to be taken care of go unnoticed and are not taken care of, this
increases the risk to employees and creates higher costs in injuries.
Find out what other unions are doing today to support workers’ rights in the United States and abroad.
What unions are doing today to support their workers, is if you work in hazardous area at work
they are now supplying safety gear for you. Before the employer had to supply the employee with the
safety gear the employee had to buy it. We all know about Governor Walker’s anti-union agenda in
Wisconsin. There was over a dozen letters from different unions around the world expresses their
support on American Federation of Teachers. Another union called National Alliance of Postal and
Federal Employees work to eliminate discrimination and injustice in the federal service.Unions also
play a large role in supplying workers with the proper paper work and helping them fill everything out
correctly. They gather information for the workers and negotiate any dealings on the behalf of the
worker. If the employer takes any retaliation against the worker the union will step in on the behalf of
the employee and take any legal actions that are necessary. Because of these actions taken by unions
employees feel more protected and are more likely to make any claims of injury, which in the long run
will keep the employees healthier and have any problems in health, that are caused by the job, taken
care of sooner rather than later.
