II. Organizational Context
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) China is the China country office of United Nations
Development Programme – the global development network of the United Nations. During the internship, the
intern will be working in two divisions of the Policy Support Team: the Economic and Poverty Reduction
division and the South-South cooperation division. Working in a large multilateral organization, the intern will
gain experience of policy formulation and analysis in the context of socio-economic development, as well as
general work of UNDP. UNDP China has an extensive history in working in the area of poverty reduction and
socio-economic aspects of human development and it also increasingly engages in South-South cooperation

III. Main Resposibilities
Assist supervisors in preparation of briefings and analysis on issues in economic development/poverty
reduction and South-South cooperation.
Assist in identifying, analyzing and interpreting economic and statistical data, trends and indicators and
supporting assessment of China’s macro-economic policies, as well as preparing top quality analysis
for UNDP senior management.
Compile monthly South-South Newsletter.
Provide logistic support for missions, events and related workshops/forums.
Provide other administrative support as requested.

2. IV. Expected Results
By the end of the internship, intern is expected to have increased UNDP’s knowledge of human
development, particularly in the fields of economics and poverty reduction, as well as South-South
cooperation.
To have successfully helped the UNDP China’s Policy Support Team to reach its working goals by
contributing in the tasks as assigned in the “Main Resposibilities” section.
Successfully compiled and distributed the South-South newsletter.
Produced or contributed in production of knowledge products, such as policy papers.
V. Recruitment Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree. Students studying towards their
Education: Bachelors degree with an intention to continue to Master’s as well as recent
graduates with academic focus on socio-economic development or poverty
reduction will be considered.
Experience: Relevant academic or professional experience is desired.
Full fluency in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge in Chinese is
