Responsive web design allows websites to automatically adjust their layout and content presentation based on the screen size of the device used to access the site. It began as a way to create flexible and adaptive designs for different devices without needing separate mobile sites. Key techniques include flexible grids, flexible images, and media queries. Separating content from design and functionality leads to more flexible and innovative solutions that can be delivered across different technologies and devices through responsive techniques and APIs.
A talk members of the Forum One Communications UX team gave at UXCampDC 2013. The focus was on some pain points we hit while trying to wrap our brains around Responsive Design and the tool we've made to help sketch solutions more easily and quickly.
Fake It While We Make It (Data-Driven Prototyping)Ryan LaBouve
“Can you make this?” Our manager slides over a screenshot from Tron/Oblivion/Any Sci-fi movie with a sticky note that says “our data here” and pitches us an idea.
We are stuck between a cool idea and tons of unknowns. We know that the availability, accuracy, and nature of our data will directly affect the quality and outcome of our project. So how do we begin developing? We fake it while we make it.
This is what the talk is about: the importance of developing with fake data, the types of data we can fake, and some useful strategies for getting up and running with fake data.

SharePoint Mobility Strategy and Design SharePoint Saturday Virginia BeachJoel Oleson
Mobility has bombarded IT. Mobile, Tablets, Cloud, and Social have changed the dynamics of the enterprise. SharePoint 2013 addresses a number of these concerns with better mobile support for Android, iOS, and Windows Phone.
Responsive Web Design: One Size No Longer Fits AllPerficient, Inc.
Designing to allow an ever-increasing number of devices to access your website or web application is a game you can never win. There is arguably little business benefit to targeting less-widely used devices, yet web-accessible smartphones that aren't iPhones constitute a large group of users that is costly to ignore.
Responsive Web Design is a new approach to the design and execution of websites and web applications that offers a way to cater to a much wider array of users and devices than would be possible otherwise. Through the use of modern web standards and a thorough execution plan it is possible to create attractive, brand-aware user experiences that work across a wide range of devices - feature phones, smartphones, tablets, netbooks, laptops and desktop computers - without requiring expensive device-centric development.
This slideshow covers:
• Costs and benefits of Responsive Web Design
• Examples of large-scale responsive websites currently deployed
• When to consider a responsive approach to your project
• The skills your team should have, and the techniques they should be using, when designing responsively

Session slides from Future Insights Live, Vegas 2015 - https://futureinsightslive.com/las-vegas-2015/
For decades, it has been safe to assume that every networked computing device had a graphical Web browser installed by default. With the rise of mobile computing, wearable tech, and the internet of things, this is no longer a safe assumption. Join Jonathan for this inspiring opening keynote talk where he will he explore what web professionals can do to thrive in a world without web browsers.

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Let's dive deeper into the world of ODC! Ricardo Alves (OutSystems) will join us to tell all about the new Data Fabric. After that, Sezen de Bruijn (OutSystems) will get into the details on how to best design a sturdy architecture within ODC.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
