Less than half of surveyed companies purchasing Microsoft software spend significant efforts to prepare for software negotiations. With Microsoft comprising more than 50% of a company’s software budget, this could be leaving considerable money on the table.
This research will provide you with the knowledge and tools you need to:
* Create a technology roadmap.
* Build a business case to keep or discontinue Software Assurance.
* Make an informed decision about license acquisition options.
* Be well prepared for your license negotiation.
* Know that you are spending appropriately for your needs.
* Choose a Microsoft reseller and negotiate the deal.
Proper preparation, including a technical roadmap, vendor research, and license program comparisons are the highest contributing factors to the success of a Microsoft negotiation. Use this Storyboard to make it happen.

SaaS Companies: What Costs Should Be Capitalized?Armanino LLP
Armanino McKenna conducted a survey of 47 public SaaS companies to examine their accounting policies for certain expenses. The results showed 70% of those SaaS companies are capitalizing expenses - the two most common expenses capitalized are software development expenses and sales commissions. To understand the diversity in capitalization practices, we examined the rules for capitalizing these and other SaaS expenses.

Open Source Licence to Kill in Software DevelopmentJamie Coleman
Open source licences are crucial in software development, enabling collaboration and innovation. However, not all licences offer the same freedoms and protections. Similar to James Bond’s licence to kill, some licences provide significant flexibility, while others may unexpectedly restrict your freedoms.
This talk addresses the issue of licences changing without consumer awareness, which can potentially put your business at risk by granting library owners the power to affect your operations adversely. Unknowingly downloading a new version with a different licence and using it in a way that violates the new terms could lead to consequences and legal action.
This talk aims to simplify the complex landscape of open-source licences, providing an understanding of critical licences and highlighting the need for caution. Additionally, we will explore automated solutions that streamline licence management, freeing you to focus on your code and project objectives. Proactively addressing licence changes can shield your organisation, mitigate risks, and ensure compliance. Join this session to gain valuable insights, practical strategies, and tools for effectively navigating open-source licences, allowing you to concentrate on your coding passion while leaving licence worries behind.
Continuous integration and deployment has become an increasingly standard and common practice in software development. However, doing this for machine learning models and applications introduces many challenges. Not only do we need to account for standard code quality and integration testing, but how do we best account for changes in model performance metrics coming from changes to code, deployment framework or mechanism, pre- and post-processing steps, changes in data, not to mention the core deep learning model itself?
In addition, deep learning presents particular challenges:
* model sizes are often extremely large and take significant time and resources to train
* models are often more difficult to understand and interpret making it more difficult to debug issues
* inputs to deep learning are often very different from the tabular data involved in most ‘traditional machine learning’ models
* model formats, frameworks and the state-of-the art models and architectures themselves are changing extremely rapidly
* usually many disparate tools are combined to create the full end-to-end pipeline for training and deployment, making it trickier to plug together these components and track down issues.
We also need to take into account the impact of changes on wider aspects such as model bias, fairness, robustness and explainability. And we need to track all of this over time and in a standard, repeatable manner. This talk explores best practices for handling these myriad challenges to create a standardized, automated, repeatable pipeline for continuous deployment of deep learning models and pipelines. I will illustrate this through the work we are undertaking within the free and open-source IBM Model Asset eXchange.
Building intelligent APIs - Andy Thurai, IBMPAPIs.io
The birth of a sophisticated Internet of Things has catapulted hybrid data collection, which mixes structured and unstructured data, to new heights. The goal with any analytics software is to find and improve better data sets rather than spending time in identifying, prepping, cleaning, and preparing the data. Not only is predicting and prescribing an action anticipating a future issue desired, but if the action is ignored then a forward thinking automatic adoption should suggest an advanced course correction based on previous action items not acted upon. Predictive analytics algorithms should recalibrate themselves. As the incoming data evolves, so do the algorithms – they must re-fit, re-predict and re-prescribe.
Andy Thurai, Program Director at IBM (API, IoT and Connected Cloud), discusses how the time has come for machines and humans to work together to make each other smarter. The combination of APIs, IoTs, big data, smarter analytics, and cognitive computing is transforming the way we see the future — and more importantly, what we do about it.
This deck explains IBM Bluemix, a PAAS based on open source (Cloud Foundry). It helps developers build applications quickly on the cloud using many of the services available, either 3rd party services or IBM services. It is the only PAAS in the market that offers Watson services.
"You don't need a bigger boat": serverless MLOps for reasonable companiesData Science Milan
It is indeed a wonderful time to build machine learning systems, as the growing ecosystems of tools and shared best practices make even small teams incredibly productive at scale. In this talk, we present our philosophy for modern, no-nonsense data pipelines, highlighting the advantages of a (almost) pure serverless and open-source approach, and showing how the entire toolchain works - from raw data to model serving - on a real-world dataset.
Finally, we argue that the crucial component for analyzing data pipelines is not the model per se, but the surrounding DAG, and present our proposal for producing automated "DAG cards" from Metaflow classes.

Spark working with a Cloud IDE: Notebook/Shiny AppsData Con LA
Abstract:-
The Problem: Energy inefficiency within public/private buildings in the City of New York.
The Goal: Take meter(Sensor) data, solve the inefficiencies through better insights.
The Solution: Visualization and Reporting through the Shiny App to gain knowledge in past, and present usage patterns. In addition to those patterns, compare and gain insights/predictions on energy usage.
Spark's Dataframes and RDD's will be used in concert with panda (library) to clean and model/prepare data for the R Shiny App. The message to convey in this meetup discussion is to show the capabilities of Spark while using DSX and RStudio/Shiny App to create visualization/reporting that will be able to give insights to the end user.
There are a few techniques that we will present in this notebook with both modeling and ML: Linear Regression, K-Means clustering for identifying inefficient buildings, (Statistical) Classification Modeling, followed by a confusion matrix (error matrices).

Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).
