This document summarizes research on solvent sorption and cross-linking of Matrimid films using ethylenediamine (EDA). The research was conducted by Lauren McDonald, John Stanford, and Mary Rezac at Kansas State University's Department of Chemical Engineering. Matrimid films were cast and then cross-linked with EDA vapor at either 30 or 60 minutes. Cross-linking was found to increase the chemical stability of the films without affecting the porous substructure. Longer cross-linking times of 60 minutes provided greater chemical resistance than 30 minutes. Liquid sorption tests showed that alcohols swelled the films less than solvents like DMF and furfuryl alcohol.
