Proper animal welfare requires preventing disease, managing and caring for animals, providing veterinary treatment when sick, balanced nutrition, suitable shelter, humane handling and slaughter. It is a human responsibility that considers animal comfort and safety. Humans have associated with animals through hunting and domestication for over 10,000 years, developing animal husbandry practices and an obligation to consider animal welfare to achieve their own goals. humans and animals that proceed in such a way, "If we take care of animals, animals will

developed over the latter half of the twentieth century into an independent specialty in its own
right. The first world-class educational organization dedicated to the study of animal welfare was
established in 1966 as a community of animal ethology affiliated with the British Veterinary
