• Hardware / Software that converts analog
sound, speech or video to digital code (or the
other way around)
• Used to compress the binary code (the digital
video/audio) to the smallest number of bits
possible.

8. Data Compression
• Lossy Compression
– mengurangi file dengan secara permanen
menghilangkan informasi tertentu, informasi
khususnya berlebihan. Ketika file tersebut
terkompresi, hanya bagian dari informasi asli masih
ada (meskipun user mungkin tidak menyadarinya).
• Lossless Compression
– Setiap bit tunggal data yang pada awalnya dalam file
tetap setelah file tersebut terkompresi. Semua
informasi bisa kembali ke originalnya.
