The Government of Ukraine approved a strategy to reach 25% renewable energy in total primary energy supply by 2035, up from a previous target of 11% for electricity by 2020. Investments in renewables decreased significantly from $4.1 billion in 2019 to $1.4 billion in 2020 due to changes in government and regulatory issues restricting development. There are over 961 renewable energy companies operating 1478 plants totaling 8004 MW of installed capacity. However, the industry faces debt of $16.5 billion owed for 2020 generation, disinformation campaigns, and legal challenges regarding feed-in tariffs.
