UAM Oxygen Analyzer
1. OVERVIEW OF OXYGEN ANALYZER
Gradian Health Systems
Simulation-Based Product Training
Version 2.0
2. Oxygen Analyzer Overview
UAM Simulation-based Training I Lecture Content | Overview of UAM 2
The UAM is designed to work with 5 sources
of oxygen, but regardless of the source, it’s
critical a provider understands the FiO2 to
make the necessary clinical decisions around
oxygen delivery that serve the patient’s best
interests
For this reason, Gradian embedded a fuel
cell-based oxygen analyzer in the UAM
3. Oxygen Analyzer
UAM Simulation-based Training I Lecture Content | Overview of UAM 3
• The oxygen analyzer measures the amount
of oxygen in the air traveling through the
UAM (FiO2) and displays it on the control
screen
• It has a 10-hour rechargeable battery back-
up that enables monitoring capacity even if
electricity fails
• The battery will automatically charge when
the green mina isolator switch is turned on
and the UAM is connected to electricity
• The user can adjust high and low oxygen
alarms, as well as apnea alarm settings
• The oxygen monitor should be calibrated
daily
4. Oxygen Analyzer Screen

Percent oxygen/FiO2 (shows
the oxygen percentage of the
anesthetic gas measured
before inspiration)

Mains power indicator Apnea alarm on/off
Low oxygen
percentage alarm
(user adjusted)
Mode (opens screen
for system settings)
Calibration settings (to
calibrate oxygen sensor
and apnea alarm)
High oxygen

(user adjusted)
5. Calibrating the Oxygen Analyzer
UAM Simulation-based Training I Lecture Content | Overview of UAM 5
Calibrating to Room Air | With the oxygen turned off cycle the bellows to draw
in air, wait for the oxygen sensor to stabilize, then press CAL – AIR – GO and
wait, then press EXIT to go to the main display. If the sensor fails to calibrate or
an oxygen sensor exhausted alarm is present replace the oxygen sensor.
Calibrating to Medical Grade Oxygen | Turn on the analyzer screen and
ensure that the vaporizer is off. Turn on the oxygen cylinder or pipeline to
provide 100% oxygen, turn on a 6 liter/minute flow and wait for the oxygen
sensor to stabilize, then press CAL – O2 – GO and wait for the calibration to
finish, then go back to the main display by pressing EXIT twice.
Note: If 100% oxygen is not available or you are unsure of the concentration of
your external source, then the oxygen analyzer should just be calibrated with
room air (21% oxygen). If the sensor is calibrated with an external sources that
is below 100% oxygen then the monitor will display 104% at higher oxygen
concentrations.
