What Are the Four Types?
 1. Declarative – Makes a statement ,
states a fact and asserts something.
 2. Interrogative – Asks a question
 3. Imperative – Gives a command ,
make a request or gives an advice.
 4. Exclamatory – Shows strong
feeling
1. Declarative Sentences
 Definition: States a fact, an opinion
or asserts something. Ends with a
period.
 Examples:
 - The sun rises in the east.
 - I love reading books.
 Usage Tip: Use for making statements
or giving information.
2. Interrogative Sentences
 Definition: Asks a question. Ends
with a question mark (?)
 Examples:
 - What is your name?
 - Are you coming to the party?
 Usage Tip: Use when you want
information.
3. Imperative Sentences
 Definition: Gives a command, makes
a request or gives direction or
advice. Ends with a period or
exclamation mark.
 Examples:
 - Please close the door.
 - Stop talking.
 Usage Tip: Subject is often 'you'
(understood).
4. Exclamatory Sentences
 Definition: Expresses strong
emotion. Ends with an exclamation
mark (!)
 Examples:
 - What a beautiful day!
 - I can't believe it!
 Usage Tip: Use to show excitement,
surprise, or emotion.

What is a Subject?
 • The subject is the person, place, thing,
or idea that is doing or being something.
 • It tells us WHO or WHAT the sentence is
about.
 Examples:
 - John is running. (Subject: John)
 - The cat sleeps all day. (Subject: The cat)
 - My friends are playing outside. (Subject:
My friends)
 - Pizza is delicious. (Subject: Pizza)
What is a Predicate?
 • The predicate tells what the subject does or
is.
 • It always contains a verb.
 Examples:
 - John is running. (Predicate: is running)
 - The cat sleeps all day. (Predicate: sleeps all
day)
 - My friends are playing outside. (Predicate: are
playing outside)
 - Pizza is delicious. (Predicate: is delicious)
