WSO2Con EU 2016: New IT Business Models and Open Source Middleware Economic ...WSO2
In today’s enterprises, IT takes center stage in an organization’s business model. They consist of interrelated architectural, co-operational and financial arrangements designed and developed to achieve its strategic goals and objectives. The products and/or services the organization offers, or will offer, are based on the arrangements that are built on the IT infrastructure.
Open source software (OSS) is capable of bringing down average IT expenditure of companies. Cost reduction isn’t only about spending less on software licenses but also about increased efficiency in an organization’s IT setup. For example, the real value is higher, mainly because reused OSS code tends to be of higher quality when compared with equivalent proprietary.
In this session, we will discuss the economic value of open source middleware for achieving the objectives set forth by the new IT business models.
This presentation introduces the Turmeric SOA software from eBay. This is an open source framework for developing Service Oriented Architecture applications.
WSO2Con EU 2016: Understanding the WSO2 API Management PlatformWSO2
In this session, we depict the key challenges of deploying an API management solution and how WSO2’s API Management platform can address them by supporting API provisioning, security and analytics. We also describe the various deployment options – on-premise and in the cloud – as well as the key deployment patterns that you need to adopt.

My TechDays 2015 in the Netherlands session about API management. Every company has services or API's to share public or private. There are many tools to solve this. But one thing is for sure, API's without management is not good.
Between spending hours (or days!) making sure you can code and test locally and the difficulties of keeping remote environments up to date, sometimes we find ourselves falling back on "It works on my machine!". Getting rid of the difficulties in making new development environments and maintaining testing infrastructure is really key to banishing the dreaded phrase. In this session, we'll take you through some of the recent tools and techs that will not only make your life easier but will mean you never have to say "works on my machine" ever again.
ECM and Open Source Software: A Disruptive Force in ECM SolutionsJeff Potts
Open source software is finally getting the recognition it deserves from analysts like Forrester and Gartner as a disruptive force in IT. Over the years, open source has “climbed up the stack” from operating systems to databases and now to business applications where it has established a firm foothold in the content management space. What should enterprises know about open source content management? Is it really just for Web Content Management (WCM) or does it meet the needs of broader Enterprise Content Management (ECM) deployments? Arelarge enterprises doing big, meaningful content management projects with open source or is its appeal limited to subsets of the market? What about Enterprise 2.0 initiatives? Can you assemble an Enterprise 2.0 solution from open source components? How does it compare with something like Sharepoint?
Test Automation Tool comparison – HP UFT/QTP vs. SeleniumAspire Systems
Success in any Test Automation effort lies in identifying the right tool for automation. There are so many test automation tools (both open source and commercial) available in the market and it is extremely important to choose the right tool that best suits your overall requirements. But it is always wise to set a bench mark by comparing HP Quick Test Pro or HP Unified Functional Testing and Selenium as these tools have been the talking point in the automated testing tools market and they have acquired majority of the tools market share. This whitepaper has been created as a guide to help QA Heads understand, compare and implement industry’s best test automation tools focusing on these two tools.

We understand that customers today need faster delivery of custom solution and services given the complexity in domain the software they are delivering to their customers and competition.
At Ta3s, Innovation is the key and we build and deliver solution and services to our customers meeting their expectations. Headquartered out of Bangalore and have business interests in Americas, Europe and APJ.
The collective team experience in delivering 40% more than industry average successful projects to our customers is noted and recognized by customers worldwide.
A top focus for application development today is on acceleration, but faster is not always equal to better. The bigger challenge is to improve both the speed and quality of software releases. By utilizing virtualization technology, specifically service virtualization and virtual dev/test labs, in software development lifecycles, companies can increase test coverage in less time and ultimately produce better software faster.
HP Service Virtualization software allows development and testing teams to access limited or unavailable services in a simulated, virtual environment. This easy-to-use solution speeds application delivery, eliminates risks and reduces cost by virtualizing services within existing environments. By enabling parallel development and early functional testing, it eliminates wait times. HP Service Virtualization also reduces the use of high-cost, business-critical infrastructure or pay-per-use components for testing.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
