Visualization is a key lean technique and a necessity, when you, as a part of a complex system are tackling a fast moving environment. But why is it such a necessity? Let’s walk through some of the limitation imposed on us by our brain, and how visualization helps us cope.

5. Three things makes us miss changes in
our surrounding
Change blindness – we only notice what we think is important
Flicker paradigm – lack sufficient storage space to remember both
space and time on a detailed level
Stress - filter out

Given we have complex world, what does our brain cope with?
"we do not have sufficient memory for the effortless combination of detailed information from successivemoments in time. This is not to say that we have no visual memory. If we attend to something,we certainly can see it change. And if we close our eyes we can remember several things aboutthe world in front of us, such as the location of a few of the objects present, their approximateshape and size, and perhaps their color. But the amount of visual detail contained in theserepresentations is rather limited. Thus, although we have representations that contain largeamounts of detailed information, and representations that provide coherence over time and space,we do not have representations that do both."
Our brain will only look for what it expects to be thereBut don’t dispair! Our brain has smart ways to cope with this!
Pretrain the team to see. OR Point the difference out.----------------------------------1. Our brains will only look for what is expects to be there2. We will fill in the details automatially based on our perception of the worldA team of people will not see the same thing.
A good image should invite eye to dart around, build visual model.1 - use images to clarify what we are trying to communicate2 - make them interactive, so that we engage3 - augment memory by create persistance: shared mental model in collaboratie work
