Lesson Think A Louds:Students will watch the story of Tucker Turtle Takes Time To Think Aboutand
answer associated questions throughout the story to help Tucker use the computer with respect and
cyber safety. Students will learn a simple safety message in rhyme, which will be repeated on several
occasions.
Learning Objectives: To be able to understand the importance of proper care and seeking adult
assistance when on the internet

Usesthe class’s verbal active participation toorganize; sequence and clarify thinking, ideas, feelings and events.
Sustain attentive listening, respond to what they have heard by relevant comments, questions or actions.
Extend their vocabulary, exploring the meanings of new sounds and new words
Retell narratives in the correct sequence, drawing on the language patterns of stories.
Students will show an understanding of the story elements.
Students will make connections to literature
Explore how songs use repeated sounds and sound patterns
Express and communicate their ideas, thoughts and feelings by using a widening range of materials and suitable

Day 1 Starter
Explain to the children that they are
going to be thinking about the parts of
the computer and the internet and start
by asking them some simple show-of-
hand questions:
Who likes to use the computer? Who
uses a computer at home? Who likes to
play games on the computer? Who has
been on the internet before? Who likes to
play games on the internet? (Have you
ever gotten so frustrated at the computer
that banged, threw, or kicked the
computer parts?)
5 minutes
Introduce Tucker Turtle. He can get
very frustrated
Go around and compliment them on how
they are handlingtheir computer!
Read Tucker Turtle: computer parts
have hearts. Review how some children
could understand how Tucker felt.
Review rhyme to remind them how parts
have hearts.
At computer groups students
Design the parts with hearts on kidpixs
or can use clipart with word
Students finish task. Save and print.
Free Choice
Students return to their computer and go
to an approved
Site
40 minutes
Day 2 – Pop Ups! Don’t click you will
make your mouse sick!
Read about Tuckers frustrations with
pop ups.
Discuss who could help Tucker
Computer Group: go to google images
type in sad computer mouse. Now type
angry turtle
Type: Tucker didn’t think!
For remainder of computer lab
Task Complete: Students return to their
computer and go to an approved site.
45 – 50 minutes
Day 3 – Don’t get Mad get Mom or Dad
Materials: green copy paper
Scissors
glue
Read what happened to Tucker next.
Tucker seemed very upset that his screen
is not right. Should Tucker try to fix it
by himself or should he ask for help?
Yes. Put your chin to your chest. No.
Make an X with your arms.
Is Tucker thinking?
Computer groups: go to
http://www.dltk-

and come back to large group area
Task Complete: Students return to their
computer and go to an approved site.
45-50 minutes
Timing: Story 10 - 15 mins (then shorter follow up activities)

“think out loud” questions ready to read .Mini Lesson then computer groups
Resources: PPT, “think out loud” questions, creative word –picture representation with kidpixs or word
Day 4 –Will the Cyber foes create
Tucker Turtle woes
Just when we thought Tucker Turtle was
cyber safe thinking… He was on the
computer, but he didn’t go to his
favorites. He started typing in the
address bars about presents. … and right
before his eyes a present appeared on the
screen. And the stranger’s voice said
you won! Open me!
Do you think Tucker should open a
present from a stranger?
Computer Groups: Click on the Word
shortcut. Go to insert, then clip art.
Type Turtle. Pick a Turtle – Insert.
Now go to shapes.
At the bottom, look for call outs or
thought bubbles. What is Tucker
thinking? You can type the word in
clipart and put it in or out of the bubble.
Task Complete: Students return to their
computer and go to an approved site.
45-50 minutes
Day 5 Last Day of Unit
Thinking Tucker is triumphant!
Recap and continue you the story.
Did Tucker open the Present?
Will the Cyber Foes win?
Tucker remembered his powerful words
THINK! THINK! THINK!
He went to his Dad and his Dad found
the secret X and banished the Cyber Foe
away forever!
Students return to their computer and go
to an approved site.
