Body Language is the
process of communicating

gestures and movements
Communication consist of:

Facial expression are an important channel of non-verbal
communication
Various animal species display facial expressions
Some common facial expressions:
Gape – mouth open; astonishment
Grimace – maybe involuntary; contorted facial expression; pain
Frown – maybe involuntary; expression of dislike or displeasure
Smile – can be forced and or genuine; a genuine smile usually uses
more than just the mouth, such as the eyes, eyebrows, etc…
7. Micro Expressions
A micro expression is a momentary
involuntary facial expression that is displayed
when someone is hiding an emotion.
They are quick and intense expressions of a
concealed emotion
They can appear and disappear in a fraction
of a second – most do not notice them
They are grouped into seven universal
emotions:
Anger, disgust, fear, sadness, happiness, sur
prise, and contempt

using your arms or hands
to convey some meaning

Some common gesture that can be translated into different
meaning:
Thumbs Up: American/European – Good; Asian / Islamic
– Offensive and rude; Australia – if moved up and down, it
is considered an insult
Stop (Hand Out): American/British – Stop/Halt;
Singapore / Malaysia – Hailing / getting someone’s
attention
OK Sign: American – Everything is good; Latin America /
France – “Your anus”; Turkey – means one is homosexual

12. SUMMARY
“It wasn’t me Honestly!”
As a humans we believe that we can control our emotions and our
bodies, but in reality the truth can always be detected. The body speaks
louder than words could ever image and actions are not always what they
seem.
While some emotions and actions are not intentional, some are acts of good
faith, such as the occasional “thumbs up”, but the individual need be aware
of the cultural difference and meanings of expressions and gestures.
