Sony-BMG used rootkit technologies with their XCP and MediaMax software that were difficult for users to remove and opened security vulnerabilities. The software was installed without user consent and transmitted listening data. There was public criticism of Sony-BMG for using rootkits and installing software without permission. Regulations may be needed in some cases to prevent such security issues.

Digital rights management (DRM) techniques are used to control access to and reproduction of digital content. As publishing has shifted to digital formats, copies can now be made and shared online with minimal cost or detection. DRM uses encryption, serial keys, and scrambling to restrict access and enforce copyright. Encryption converts data into a secure format only authorized parties can access. Serial keys verify authentic software purchases. Scrambling hides content components to prevent unauthorized extraction of the original signal. These techniques aim to address issues around dissemination of information online while protecting artists' and companies' control over content distribution and monetization.

Anish has been working in the security and cryptography area for the past 15 years, as a researcher and as a consultant. His first brush with payments systems was 15 years ago when he was involved in building a micropayments system for Ericsson. He has spent half his career researching cryptographic algorithms and protocols at three different research groups including Microsoft Research. He also has published multiple papers in the area of security and cryptography and contributed to thought leadership in security space, through guides, POV, white papers and talks. He has also worked as a strategy consultant for Accenture and Capgemini. Most recently he has been involved in the Blockchain ecosystem as one of the founding members of UKDCA . He is also on the advisory board for Ripple Labs, IEET, EA ventures, Adjoint and Chain of Things. These days he works for large UK bank where he is lead security architect.

Digital rights management (DRM) techniques are used to control access to and reproduction of digital content. As publishing has shifted to digital formats, copies can now be made and shared online with minimal cost or detection. DRM uses encryption, serial keys, and scrambling to restrict access and enforce copyright. Encryption converts data into a secure format only authorized parties can access. Serial keys verify authentic software purchases. Scrambling hides content components to prevent unauthorized extraction of the original signal. These techniques aim to address issues around dissemination of information online while protecting artists' and companies' control over content distribution and monetization.

He has also worked as a strategy consultant for Accenture and Capgemini. Most recently he has been involved in the Blockchain ecosystem as one of the founding members of UKDCA . He is also on the advisory board for Ripple Labs, IEET, EA ventures, Adjoint and Chain of Things. These days he works for large UK bank where he is lead security architect.

Privacy and Data Protection in South Africa
South Africa has strong constitutional protections for privacy and personal data. The Protection of Personal Information Act (POPI) provides extensive privacy rights and obligations similar to the EU GDPR, though it has not yet fully come into force. Sectoral laws also regulate privacy in areas like electronic communications, financial services, health, and children. Recent developments include the appointment of an Information Regulator in 2016 to oversee POPI compliance and the publication of draft POPI regulations in 2017 and 2018.
