2. WHAT IS THE TROPICAL
REGION?
• Regions of the Earth which are near the
equator and between the Tropic of Cancer
in the northern hemisphere and the Tropic of
Capricorn in the southern hemisphere is called
the Tropical region.
• It is also known as the equatorial region.
• This region gets direct sunlight from the sun.
3. CLIMATE OF TROPICAL REGIONS
• Tropical regions have a hot climate throughout the
year.
• High humidity is common in tropical regions making
the air sticky.
• There is heavy rainfall in monsoons and less
precipitation in the dry season.
4. AMAZON BASIN
• The Amazon basin flows in the north-western
part of South America in the equatorial region.
• It flows through Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia
and some parts of Ecuador, Venezuela, Guyana,
Surinam, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and
French Guiana.
• It flows through Andes in the west and drains
into the South-Atlantic Ocean in the east.
5. CLIMATE OF THE AMAZON BASIN
• The Amazon Basin has a hot and wet climate
throughout the year.
• Both day and night are almost equally hot and humid.
• It rains almost everyday, without much warnings.
• The temperature is high in the day with humidity.
• The temperature drops in the night, but the humidity
remains high.

• The Amazon Basin is the largest river basin in
the world.
• South Africa is home to the maturity of
rainforests in the world.
•Due to the thickness of the canopy, the
Amazon floor is in permanent darkness. In fact,
it’s so thick that when it rains, it takes around
ten minutes for the water to reach the ground!
