A triptych is a work of art with three panels, usually hinged, with related imagery. The middle panel is often largest. Triptychs were commonly used in medieval and Renaissance Christian artworks. They allowed flexibility for transport and appeared frequently in churches as altarpieces from the Middle Ages onward. Examples include works by Hans Memling featuring The Last Judgment and Hugo van der Goes' Adoration of the Shepherds.

Damien Hirst is a British artist known for controversial works like "The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living", a tiger shark preserved in formaldehyde. Some of his other notable works include "Mother and Child Divided", which displays a cow and calf in separate glass cases. Hirst had a successful auction in 2000 called "Beautiful Inside My Head Forever" held at Sotheby's in London. He was also sued for copyright infringement over one of his sculptures called "Hymn" but went on to sell three more copies of the work.
Matisse: Cut Paper Designs
After being diagnosed with cancer in 1941, Henri Matisse began creating cut-paper designs with the help of assistants. His assistants would paint sheets of paper which Matisse would then cut out colored shapes and pieces from and arrange on the papers. This new cut-paper technique allowed Matisse, who used a wheelchair at this point, to continue being artistically creative. He produced over 300 of these cut-paper designs in the final years of his life.

John Singer Sargent
John Singer Sargent was simply the most successful portraitist of his days at the end of the 19C and the beginning of the 20C. He lived in Italy, Paris and London. He travelled widely From to Venice to the Tyrol. Corfu on the European Mediterranean coast. He visited Morocco, Tangiers and Egypt on the North African coast. He even ventured into Lebanon, Syria and the Holyland. In American he went to Montana, Maine, Florida, Boston, New York, Washington DC etc. He was fluent in French, Italian and some German. He was well read in European literature, an accomplished pianist and a passionately keen musician. Henry James, the American writer who lived in Europe describe Sargent as being ‘civilized to his fingertips’. He knew personally many of the artists, performers and painters of his days, including the giants like Degas, Rodin, Monet and Whistler.
Technically Sargent belong to the same line of portraitists like the Velazquez, Frans Hals and van Dyck, all of them committed their paint quickly onto the canvas. You will be amazed on close inspection of their paintings how spontaneous the paints were applied. Sargent like the Impressionists also a practitioner of painting in the ourdoor. This is particularly true with his watercolours, which were often a record of what he had seen. In his later life Sargent was mainly painting for the enjoyment of himself, as an observer. This was true when he was appointed as the War Artist in World War One.
For comparison with his peers, I think it is interesting to compare him with the works of John Frederick Lewis, the orientalist, who also painted in oil as well as watercolour. Sargent and Van Gogh were born a few years apart and their career were developed in different direction regards to their career, style and technique. But both of them painted in the ‘open air’ (plein-air), as well. Sargent was sympathetic to the called of the Impressionists. He even used some of the technique but was never fully converted. Personally, I think Sargent is one of the finest artists of his time, and he knew it too.

Frank stella
Frank Stella is an American artist born in 1936 in Massachusetts. He studied painting at Phillips Academy and graduated from Princeton University. Stella lives in New York City and is known for his minimalist and abstract paintings that use simple geometric shapes and repetitive lines. In the 1960s, Stella focused on flat, two-dimensional canvases but in the 1980s his work became more sculptural and three-dimensional. Some of his most notable series include works based on circles from the 1970s called the Protractor Series. Stella continues to experiment with form and push the boundaries of abstract art.

Art history impressionism

Islamic art, on the other hand, prohibits representational images of religious art. The artworks comprise of calligraphic decorations and repetitive geometric patterns. Geographic patterns make up of non-figurative types of decorations in Islamic art.
