Treatment Note I wrote, designed and referenced for a well known ad film director.

2. The beauty of youth is in its chaos, in its clutter, in its frenzy.Youth is the greatest gift to mankind. But youth is also many moments of
mad rush.The fear of its fleeting nature eggs us on, urges us to move ahead, to never stop, to run until either the feet give way or the
earth does. Because youth comes once and when it does, you need to be ready. Life is short.Youth is only a small fragment of it.This
film is the most wonderful tribute to youth!
With youth comes pressure, expectations, responsibilities and activities galore.The moment you enter that incredible phase of life, you
are running against time, trying every second of your life to beat it.While you cannot beat time, you can conquer it. Seize that moment
and make it yours! But the moment this race begins, there will always be factors that attempt to impede your progress, to dampen
your spirits and worse to deplete you of your energy and enthusiasm. Body odour can certainly be one of those!

3. This film is a fantastic story that works both on an extremely profound and philosophical
level but also on surface level ensuring that it never becomes alienating or abstract. This
film wonderfully captures the essence of youth that enables you to perform to your best
abilities but is also vulnerable and easily dispirited by factors that may ruin your social
standing. Youth is many wonderful things but it is also the most complex period of a
person’s life. It would be absolutely foolish to spoil a time that is worthy of being
cherished forever due to circumstances easily avoidable. When the solution is simple and
the path ahead devoid of thorns, there is only one advice, take it. He Deodorant is that
path! The idea of associating deep philosophy with a product may seem unusual but it isn’t
because just as small things can give pleasure, small things can also give pain. How you
smell is not a matter of just prestige, it is rather about confidence in oneself. When our
body language exudes confidence, we have the power to change the perception of the
world around us, we have the power to control our own youth and we have the power to
hold the reins of our lives and ensure that we determine the path ahead of us.

4. CHARACTERS & THEIR
ENDLESS ENERGY
When the shackles of restraint have been broken and
vitality of the youth has gained a new meaning, there is
little sense in holding oneself back.This is the philosophy
behind this unfolding battle between two tenacious
forces – Hrithik Roshan and He Deodorant. He
Deodorant is clearly the lead character, along side the
extremely charming, handsome and suave Hrithik Roshan.
‘He’ is the very definition of youth and masculinity. ‘He’ is
even the hero that beats the ultimate hero – Hrithik
Roshan. By giving He Deodorant a very tangible
character we have stated right from the start that this
battle is not between two abstract concepts but
between two characters with incredible abilities, passion
and youthful exuberance.The ‘He VS Me Challenge’ slate
which gives ‘He’ a face, an image, an identity is an
absolutely brilliant idea because this image is able to
create an entity, an identity. It makes the battle ground
even and it allows us to support one or the other
candidate.
Then of course, you have the opponent, the strong, the
powerful, the indefatigable, the invincible Hrithik Roshan.
There could be no better pick for a film such as this than
him – a man who can run, who can dance and who can
party like no other. While Hrithik Roshan is clearly
portrayed as a man with superhuman abilities, which in
Hrithik’s case is rather believable, it is also important that
we make him transform into the evolving character he
plays each time his clothes and backgrounds change.
While he remains the same person, it adds a dimension
to his personality and a sense of determination since it
hints at the lengths he is willing to go within the ethical
boundaries to win this challenge. I will ensure that this
battle comes across as the most exciting thing one has
seen on TV in a long time – call it Captain America VS
Ironman.While we do not have physical presence of the
two, the intensity will remain the same. One must also
acknowledge that there is a great deal of underlying
humour in this film and with that intensity, we will also
be able to hint at it every now and then.

8. VISUAL LANGUAGE & STYLE
Vigour, youth, sweat & passion. It is absolutely pertinent that
these qualities shine forth through the treatment of the film.
This film is all about speed, energy and relentlessness. When
Hrithik is in his bathroom wearing an impeccable white shirt,
he sprays He deo and takes on a challenge. Hrithik is
absolutely determined to win this one. From this point on,
we know that we are about to watch a real battle – battle of
the egos. And once the battle begins, there is no looking
back, there is no slowing down and there is only one way to
go and that is right to the end, as either a victor or a loser.
The camera looks to capture this frenzy, this fervour and this
absolute fanaticism.
As we crash zoom out of the bathroom and watch Hrithik
run towards us with his clothes and backdrops changing, we
can see that even for him, this challenge is far from easy, he
is soon drenched in sweat. In order to show the intensity of
this moment, we will use time slice to capture the vitality of
the moment and his sweat droplets in high speed from every
possible angle. Intercut that with fast motion and what you
have there is the very gist of this film.

9. As the backdrop changes, we will give Hrithik one
distinct activity to perform while he continues to run. In
the jogger’s park, he grabs someone’s water bottle and
sprays it over his face. In the gymnasium, he jumps onto
the treadmill and runs on it for some time. In the office
space, he would perhaps pick up a pen and sign an
important document. On the set, he finds himself in the
middle of an action sequence. Here he expertly displays a
few quick moves and stunts. Finally at the party, he stops
at last for a selfie. He has done it all.
The camera will capture him from every angle, through
every possible lens, covering every inch of his movement,
passion and determination. Wide and aerial shots will
capture his movement in reference to his backdrop. Close
Ups and Macros will ensure that every bead of
perspiration on his face and body is evident and every
jerk felt by his muscles, knees, calves and ankles create
the impact on screen that his body feels. This intercut
with tracking and follow shots will make you feel as if
you are with the character on this tough journey. As the
backdrops change, one will feel as if one has broken these
barriers and unified the distinct spaces. This will create
an extraordinary impact. The walls of your home will
disintegrate and transport you to this battlefield and
give you immense vicarious pleasure of having
participated in this clash of the titans.

13. LOOK & FEEL
When the world around you begins to melt, borders
begin to disintegrate and the land you own turns into a
battlefield, there is little sense in looking for answers in
realism. This film is all about style, panache, anarchy and
going all out. Only the audacious youth has a say in this
world of dreams and imagination; the privilege of the
youth. In such a world, we have a great opportunity to
create these different spaces which are a blend of reality
and imagination so as to intrigue the audiences but not
to alienate them.
The film opens in Hrithik’s bathroom. This is the one
space which is absolutely realistic. Creativity creeps in
with the spray of the He Deodorant. The bathroom is
any regular bachelor pad bathroom which is upmarket
and sophisticated but at the same time a little messy,
perhaps a towel hanging from the edge of the bathtub.
The tones are mainly in white and grey with plenty of
sunlight drifting in through the windows.
Bright elements in cyans and yellows can break the
monotony of the space and lend it a warm quality.
The moment, Hrithik sprays He Deo on himself, which
we see in beautiful slow motion, we can see the change
even in the surroundings.The light begins to recede and
the blacks begin to envelope the space. Before Hrithik is
absorbed by this black hole, he begins to run and finds
himself in an entirely different space.
He lands in a joggers’ park in his full fledged jogging
attire. It is a glorious morning and the light is absolutely
divine. The morning sun has just risen and the sky has
converted into a palette of warm colours – crimson,
magenta, pink and purple interjected with the most
refined blue. The golden sunlight rains down upon
Hrithik as he runs surrounded by trees, plants and
blossoms of all colours and sizes.The drama of the light
and shadow play is exquisite and the shafts of sunlight
find their way through the niches in the leaves and the
branches.The morning fog lit by the sunlight looks like a
pathway to the earth straight from the heavens.

16. It is 9 am and we now find him in an open gymnasium.
The light is now bright and has enveloped the entire
space in its golden glory. The sweat on Hrithik’s face is
glittering in the light of the sun and his entire body is
resplendent. The light is still slanted and the effect is a
good contrast across the entire space. The open gym is
an interesting space with lots of gym equipment strewn
about creating interesting symmetry and geometrical
patterns.This rather metallic and industrial look is broken
by the freshness of the green plants strategically placed.
Next we see Hrithik in an office space. The office is a
large space with desks and chairs symmetrically placed in
a big room.There are a few glass cubicles on the side but
all the action and chaos is in the open space. The
ambience is lit with cool overhead light that evenly lights
up the entire space interjected by the rather strong
sunlight seeping in through the open windows. The
Venetian blinds on some of the windows create a
geometrical pattern that adds drama and style to the
characters and the setting.
Hrithik is now on a film set in the middle of an action
sequence. This is a beautiful dramatic set up. Film crew
and cast are seriously going about their business. The
floor is covered with cushioning as we see Hrithik,
perhaps in a harness, perform the battlefield action. We
can alternatively even make him perform a mix of
Chinese martial arts and Bollywood style. In case of the
latter, we could even give him a costume similar to Bruce
Lee’s famous yellow jumpsuit from ‘Game of Death’. He
defeats all the tough muscular men that surround him.
They drop on the floor like bowling pins as he
vanquishes them all.
Hrithik Roshan dazzles in the heavy film lights that give
him a dramatic high contrast look. Different coloured
lights would lend his contours a nice hue and create
incredible visual dynamism and drama.The moment the
director says ‘Cut’, Hrithik is out of there.

20. It is now night and the party has begun.The zest for
life is visible in every frame. Style and panache
dictate every camera angle and hedonism is visible in
every inch of this film.
The film takes place in a large living room with an
entire wall converted into a French window. It
boasts of a duo-chromatic tone making it tasteful as
well as rich. Walls in off-whites, an interesting mix of
sharp lines of the modern furniture and intricately
carved antique furniture, light and earthy coloured
fabrics and tapestry and adorned with several lamps
give the room a look of luxury and lavishness.
The moonlight drapes the house somewhat evenly
but the gorgeous lamps inside put certain corners
and places under display. It is however the neon
party lights, smoke and the flickering disco balls that
add romance and ecstasy to the party, making it
look like it belongs to a different world. The
coloured lights lend a magnificent hue to the
characters dancing and partying through the night.
Their shimmering clothes glow and glitter under the
fabulous lights. Flickering neon lights give the place a
high fashion hedonistic look that would create the
space we are after.

25. MUSIC
This film is a celebration of a product that inspires us to remain young and enjoy it while it lasts – it inspires us to
value life a bit more and enjoy every moment of it. It inspires us to break the shackles of conformity, let the
beasts inside us out and go wild.
The delirium of the youth that we see in the film gives us a wonderful scope to create a piece of music that is
beautiful and entrancing, groovy and sedate in measure. Imagine perhaps a mix of symphony and trance! I find
the speed of the visuals and the anarchy of the action set against the classical nature of a symphony rather
interesting. Symphony can take on many moods – from soothing to dramatic to evocative to rapturous and that
is the diversity we need in this film with the changing pace of the shots and the setting. Each setting requires it’s
own style of music while keeping in mind a common thread that ties the entire film together and for that
purpose, there is nothing more effective than a symphony with its incredible diversity, complexity and dramatic
quality.
In the end, the tempo would rise and envelope the entire space into its rapturous energy – the music looks like it
would never stop, the dance would never end, the night would never turn into day!

26. It would be my pleasure to work with you on this fantastic film that is
bound to etch itself in the minds of the audiences for a long time to
come, both visually and musically. We have rarely seen such a display of
youth, energy and romance for life in an Indian film before and this film
is a perfect opportunity to let go and create something that is stylish, fun,
youthful, energetic and chaotic. What unfolds in front of us is a
philosophical battle between youth and its nemesis!
While you stay immersed in the visuals on your screen, the seat beneath
you melts, the walls around you disappear and the roof over your heads
disintegrates until your surroundings change completely and transform
into the world on screen.That is the transcendental power of a film like
this. It makes you experience the battle even as you sit in your living
room. My aim with this film would be to create a heightened experience
that transports you from the safe confines of your room and takes you
on an unforgettable adventure.
In order to make this possible, it is important to get the technical and
the CG aspects absolutely bang on. I will ensure that the graphics,
whether of the action or of the product window are top notch.This film
is truly challenging since it requires heavy post and CG and I will ensure
that our film stands with pride on an international level.
