Translating Theory Into Practice When water is in a solid state, particles are packed in a rigid pattern, conforming to the shape of its container. As the water turns into a liquid, the particles regain their fluidity, moving as the other particles around them begin to shift. Kurt Lewin’s change theory is much like the changing state of water. Applying this theory, Lewin describes workplaces as being frozen in their procedures. In this state, it is impossible for change to occur successfully because people are “frozen.” Informaticists must recognize this rigid culture and begin to implement strategies that will unfreeze the opinions and procedures of the setting. According to Lewin, only then will staff begin to accept new processes over old ones. This process of moving from “freezing” to “unfreezing” can be a turbulent one. In fact, many nurses have equated this to “working in slush.” By applying theories and frameworks developed by Lewin and others, nurse informaticists can better facilitate informatics implementations. From a recent study carried out in the University of Manchester, the health workers that follow protocols are 4.5 times exposed to skin damage risks. These individuals also get exposed to infectious diseases in their areas of practice. One of the most commonly contacted infection is Hepatitis B (HBV). This is infection can be contacted via blood contact, feces, saliva, and semen. This instrument of spreading the infection is in contact with the patient and also the needles (Gooch, 2015). Nursing practitioners also risk exposure to toxic substances in the clinical environment. Radiation is another risk that comes majorly from the ionizing radiation. Complications associated with radiation include skin cancer, leukemia, and cancer among others. One comes to contact with this radiation in the instances of performing x-ray scans. Complex adaptive systems demonstrate identifiable characteristics: embeddedness, self-organization, non-linearity, unpredictability, and others. These systems exhibit emergent behavior that arises from simple rules and interconnections among diverse elements with porous boundaries, as they interact with and respond to the environment. The health system and the profession of nursing can be viewed as complex adaptive systems, and when done so, new insight can be gained. While several authors have stated they believe nursing is indeed a complex adaptive system, a visual model has not yet been advanced.
Health care organizations are complex adaptive systems where things that happen are unique, dynamic, and unpredictable; they also have diverse agents including providers, patients, and other stakeholders that serve as a source of creativity and problem-solving solutions but can also create communication difficulties (McDanial, Lanham, & Anderson, 2009). The Meikirch model uses five components that spontaneously arrange themselves with interactions; these interacting components include life’s demands, biologically given potential, personally acquired potential, social determinants, and environmental determinants. An example of how the adaptive process works in looking at how life itself is an evolutionary process starting from conception and ending at death with the demands of life, social, and environment constantly evolving with numerous adaptive processes that occur as different complex interactions happen in an individual’s life.
Complex adaptive systems (CAS) comprise five major components, and as a rule, they are labelled from “a” to “e”. The first component (a) represents the demands of life that people seek to address sufficiently. They respond to these needs by using their (b) biologically given potential and (c) personally acquired potential. These two kinds of potentials are significantly dependent on the (d) environmental and (e) social health determinants. These components are coupled with interactions that link various healthcare agents to the components (Bircher & Hahn, 2016). Therefore, DNP-prepared nurses can effectively apply the CAS to individual patient care.

Adaptation of Electronic Medical Records
The development of nursing theory, and evidenced based research are essential to the advancement of nursing practice and the profession. Chinn and Kramer (1995) defines theory as: "A creative and rigorous structuring of ideas that project a tentative, purposeful, and systematic view of phenomenon" (p.72). Nursing theories are considered holistic when they conceptualize nursing to include the four concepts of the person, environment, health and the nurse who provides the care. Nursing theory development is directly influenced by a distinct focus on the discipline of nursing, otherwise known as nursing's unique perspective. Theories such as grand, middle-range and borrowed theories can be applied to nursing practice to resolve issues relevant to any specialty within the nursing profession.
Nursing theory is often utilized by nursing professionals to describe, explain, predict or prescribe a particular situation of interest; used in turn as a guide to solve issues relevant to nursing practice (Kenney, 2013). Nursing theory identifies and utilizes concepts of care and helping, define relationships, structure ideas, facilitate disciplined inquiry, communicate, and also predict outcomes of practice to guide the discipline of nursing. The application of nursing theory in combination with knowledge and clinical experience facilitates critical thinking that allows the nurse to formulate appropriate interventions and make informed moral and ethical decisions based on proven concepts.
Nursing theory, research and practice are essential to the growth of the nursing profession and are applicable in solving issues within the healthcare system. The choice of grand, middle-range or borrowed theories are dependent on the issue that needs to be resolved. Nursing theories aim to improve nursing practice and the health of the population in general.
Roy Adaptation Model is a logical theory with a strong focus on observing how individuals, families, groups and organizations interact with their changing environment. Roy's theory embraces four modes of adaptation, which include: physiologic needs, self- concept, role function and inter-dependence. The model confirms that the process of adaptation is successful when individuals show positive response to changes in the environment, through conscious awareness, self-reflection and individual choice to integrate the human with the environment (Phillips & Harris, 2010).
Roy's Adaptation model will be used as a framework in solving issues related to the use of, electronic medical record systems by healthcare professionals in nursing practice. The model will be conceptualized to formulate clear objectives and interventions to solve the issue. This will conclude with a summary of applicable new knowledge of nursing theory to practice.

Abstract
Aim. This paper is a discussion of the derivation of the Nursing Services Delivery
Theory from the application of open system theory to large-scale organizations.
Background. The underlying mechanisms by which staffing indicators influence
outcomes remain under-theorized and unmeasured, resulting in a ‘black box’ that
masks the nature and organization of nursing work. Theory linking nursing work,
staffing, work environments, and outcomes in different settings is urgently needed to
inform management decisions about the allocation of nurse staffing resources in
organizations.
Data sources. A search of CINAHL and Business Source Premier for the years
1980–2008 was conducted using the following terms: theory, models, organization,
organizational structure, management, administration, nursing units, and nursing.
Seminal works were included.
Discussion. The healthcare organization is conceptualized as an open system
characterized by energy transformation, a dynamic steady state, negative entropy,
event cycles, negative feedback, differentiation, integration and coordination, and
equifinality. The Nursing Services Delivery Theory proposes that input, throughput,
and output factors interact dynamically to influence the global work demands
placed on nursing work groups at the point of care in production subsystems.
Implications for nursing. The Nursing Services Delivery Theory can be applied to
varied settings, cultures, and countries and supports the study of multi-level phe-
nomena and cross-level effects.
Conclusion. The Nursing Services Delivery Theory gives a relational structure for
reconciling disparate streams of research related to nursing work, staffing, and work
environments. The theory can guide future research and the management of nursing
services in large-scale healthcare organizations.

The Meikirch model uses five components that spontaneously arrange themselves with interactions; these interacting components include life’s demands, biologically given potential, personally acquired potential, social determinants, and environmental determinants. An example of how the adaptive process works in looking at how life itself is an evolutionary process starting from conception and ending at death with the demands of life, social, and environment constantly evolving with numerous adaptive processes that occur as different complex interactions happen in an individual’s life.
Complex adaptive systems (CAS) comprise five major components, and as a rule, they are labelled from “a” to “e”. The first component (a) represents the demands of life that people seek to address sufficiently. They respond to these needs by using their (b) biologically given potential and (c) personally acquired potential. These two kinds of potentials are significantly dependent on the (d) environmental and (e) social health determinants. These components are coupled with interactions that link various healthcare agents to the components (Bircher & Hahn, 2016). Therefore, DNP-prepared nurses can effectively apply the CAS to individual patient care.

Adaptation of Electronic Medical Records
The development of nursing theory, and evidenced based research are essential to the advancement of nursing practice and the profession. Chinn and Kramer (1995) defines theory as: "A creative and rigorous structuring of ideas that project a tentative, purposeful, and systematic view of phenomenon" (p.72). Nursing theories are considered holistic when they conceptualize nursing to include the four concepts of the person, environment, health and the nurse who provides the care. Nursing theory development is directly influenced by a distinct focus on the discipline of nursing, otherwise known as nursing's unique perspective. Theories such as grand, middle-range and borrowed theories can be applied to nursing practice to resolve issues relevant to any specialty within the nursing profession.
Nursing theory is often utilized by nursing professionals to describe, explain, predict or prescribe a particular situation of interest; used in turn as a guide to solve issues relevant to nursing practice (Kenney, 2013). Nursing theory identifies and utilizes concepts of care and helping, define relationships, structure ideas, facilitate disciplined inquiry, communicate, and also predict outcomes of practice to guide the discipline of nursing. The application of nursing theory in combination with knowledge and clinical experience facilitates critical thinking that allows the nurse to formulate appropriate interventions and make informed moral and ethical decisions based on proven concepts.
Nursing theory, research and practice are essential to the growth of the nursing profession and are applicable in solving issues within the healthcare system. The choice of grand, middle-range or borrowed theories are dependent on the issue that needs to be resolved. Nursing theories aim to improve nursing practice and the health of the population in general.
Roy Adaptation Model is a logical theory with a strong focus on observing how individuals, families, groups and organizations interact with their changing environment. Roy's theory embraces four modes of adaptation, which include: physiologic needs, self- concept, role function and inter-dependence. The model confirms that the process of adaptation is successful when individuals show positive response to changes in the environment, through conscious awareness, self-reflection and individual choice to integrate the human with the environment (Phillips & Harris, 2010).
Roy's Adaptation model will be used as a framework in solving issues related to the use of, electronic medical record systems by healthcare professionals in nursing practice. The model will be conceptualized to formulate clear objectives and interventions to solve the issue. This will conclude with a summary of applicable new knowledge of nursing theory to practice.

Abstract
Aim. This paper is a discussion of the derivation of the Nursing Services Delivery
Theory from the application of open system theory to large-scale organizations.
Background. The underlying mechanisms by which staffing indicators influence
outcomes remain under-theorized and unmeasured, resulting in a ‘black box’ that
masks the nature and organization of nursing work. Theory linking nursing work,
staffing, work environments, and outcomes in different settings is urgently needed to
inform management decisions about the allocation of nurse staffing resources in
organizations.
Data sources. A search of CINAHL and Business Source Premier for the years
1980–2008 was conducted using the following terms: theory, models, organization,
organizational structure, management, administration, nursing units, and nursing.
Seminal works were included.
Discussion. The healthcare organization is conceptualized as an open system
characterized by energy transformation, a dynamic steady state, negative entropy,
event cycles, negative feedback, differentiation, integration and coordination, and
equifinality. The Nursing Services Delivery Theory proposes that input, throughput,
and output factors interact dynamically to influence the global work demands
placed on nursing work groups at the point of care in production subsystems.
Implications for nursing. The Nursing Services Delivery Theory can be applied to
varied settings, cultures, and countries and supports the study of multi-level phe-
nomena and cross-level effects.
Conclusion. The Nursing Services Delivery Theory gives a relational structure for
reconciling disparate streams of research related to nursing work, staffing, and work
environments. The theory can guide future research and the management of nursing
services in large-scale healthcare organizations.

What psychological needs are met by the technology (e.g., cell phones once granted status and now promote a sense of belonging or connectedness) or created by the technology? Consumerism?
Look at groups and organizations that have arisen and prospered because of this technology. Are these groups supportive or antagonistic, and why? (An example is genetically modified foods [GMOs] and the backlash against the Monsanto corporation. Another is cochlear implants that allow the deaf to hear yet reduce the deaf population that calls itself a community.) How does the technology change society, or how does society change in response to the technology? What factors in society led to the development in the first place? What do class, gender roles, race, norms, and the like mean in this context? Who will benefit from the technology, and who might be harmed (this might also belong in the ethics and morals section)? This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

- 1. Translating Theory Into Practice When water is in a solid state, particles are packed in a rigid pattern, conforming to the shape of its container. As the water turns into a liquid, the particles regain their fluidity, moving as the other particles around them begin to shift. Kurt Lewin’s change theory is much like the changing state of water. Applying this theory, Lewin describes workplaces as being frozen in their procedures. In this state, it is impossible for change to occur successfully because people are “frozen.” Informaticists must recognize this rigid culture and begin to implement strategies that will unfreeze the opinions and procedures of the setting. According to Lewin, only then will staff begin to accept new processes over old ones. This process of moving from “freezing” to “unfreezing” can be a turbulent one. In fact, many nurses have equated this to “working in slush.” By applying theories and frameworks developed by Lewin and others, nurse informaticists can better facilitate informatics implementations.
