apidays LIVE JAKARTA - Transforming the enterprise with APIs by Faisal Mohamm...apidays
This document discusses strategies for transforming an enterprise with APIs. It presents two API strategy styles: business unit centric and enterprise wide. The business unit centric style allows autonomy but can lead to inconsistency across units. The enterprise wide style promotes harmony but requires units to comply. The document also describes a do-it-yourself model for APIs, with pillars including immersion, governance, tooling, and developer portals. It argues that combining an enterprise wide strategy with the do-it-yourself model can help organizations realize the benefits of APIs while maintaining business agility.
Innovation and scale - drivers and pitfalls to building API driven business p...Mifan Careem
1) The document discusses how disaggregated architectures and APIs are driving innovation at scale by connecting billions of endpoints and applications.
2) It argues that APIs are the "glue" bringing together hybrid cloud integration and enabling agility through loose coupling of systems.
3) The key to building successful API-driven business platforms is to align business and API strategies, define a platform strategy, facilitate consumers, engage producers, implement incentives and security, and govern the platform.
The document discusses several topics related to enterprise architecture including:
1) The challenges of architectural degradation in large organizations with siloed "silos, slabs, and spaghetti".
2) Patterns for improving enterprise architecture such as the infrastructure scaling pattern of using "IT tribes", the lifecycle pattern, and the portfolio pattern.
3) The importance of business/IT alignment and overcoming challenges of "tribalism" between different parts of organizations.

The overall approach emphasizes APIs, DevOps practices, and leveraging tools like Application Discovery and Delivery Intelligence to transform legacy applications.
Build an api eco-system you can be proud ofCisco DevNet
What do you think of when you hear “Lets build an API for that”? The typical thought process is “Its easy to expose my data/application”. Everyone in the company probably thinks the same– which is great! What happens when we build these API’s though, is that they don’t all follow the same methodology and we don’t think through how to manage their lifecycle.
This presentation presents our perspective and guidance on full life-cycle management and governance of API’s – from defining with the customer in mind, building, publishing on a single platform, supporting and retiring API’s for the business outcomes you’re driving!
Top Three Take-Aways For Participants:
1. Its easy to manage API’s as long as we think through the life-cycle and have a process.
2. The RAML “Design-First” methodology works great for API adoption by application builders.
3. Managing API’s allows easy policy enforcement, security, analytics and monetization opportunities – with benefits across business, technology and operations aspects.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
