This document provides information about an upcoming pedagogic research conference on ecological literacy and transformative learning to be held in February 2011 at the University of Brighton. It discusses the need for ecological literacy and systems thinking to address interconnected environmental, social and economic problems. It introduces concepts of transformative learning and different "levels of learning" moving from education about sustainability to education for sustainability to sustainable education. The document outlines how design can facilitate transdisciplinary actions and social learning processes to help bridge the gap between values and actions in working towards sustainability.
