This document proposes a real-time traffic sign recognition system for cars. The system would detect traffic signs using image recognition techniques and notify the driver about detected signs using voice or on-screen text. This could help improve safety by ensuring drivers are aware of traffic signs when driving. The document discusses the motivation and feasibility of such a system, provides examples of Vietnam traffic sign types it could recognize, and outlines initial steps to build a prototype using OpenCV and machine learning algorithms like SVM and Haar classifiers on camera or dashcam footage. Future work could expand sign recognition capabilities and build an Android version to alert drivers in real-time.

! When driving a car, I usually do not notice traffic signs.
! Talking with other people
! Concentrating on the insane traffic of Hanoi.

! Even sometimes I do not remember the meaning of some traffic signs. ☹

3. Motivation of Idea (2)
! Need someone to sit side by side and notice me about traffic signs on road.
! But hiring a beautiful secretary is also costly, so I want my car be smarter to help me
out.

5. Feasibility
! There are a lot of car which installed a dash-cam.
! The high generation dash-cam has a high spec and runs on Android OS.
! Can use smartphone as an alternative dash-cam.
! There is no (or rare) dash-cam having a traffic sign recognition function.
! People (like me) are willing to pay money for the safe driving.

7. How to make
! Step 1: Find all red and blue parts in the image (now using SVM)
! Step 2: Group them into red and blue regions as following algorithm:
! Step 3: Find traffic signs in each color region (now using Haar-like cascade classifier)

8. Time for Demo
! Libraries: OpenCV, LightSVM
! Language: C and C++
! This demo: find only [Red] regions and detect only the [One way] traffic sign.

9. Future works
! Recognise traffic signs in the real-time video
! Train recognition model for other traffic signs
! Collect and Create the training dataset
! Try with other methods (Deep Learning etc,.)
! Additional function:
! Calculating the distance between the car and the traffic sign
! Allow user to choose which traffic signs he/she want to be alerted
