The document discusses traditional data centers versus infrastructure as a service (IDC). It notes that traditional DCs require large upfront capital expenditures for hardware, facilities, and staff while IDC allows users to pay only for the resources they consume on a flexible as-needed basis with no upfront costs and easy scalability. The document presents IDC as a more cost-effective solution that eliminates issues around hardware refreshes, downtime for upgrades, and dealing with surplus or deficit capacity.

Effective use of cloud resources for Data Engineering - Johnson DarkwahMatěj Jakimov
Video from presentation: https://youtu.be/SoSZdI2lMVQ
Processing vast amounts of data in the cloud has long been a nightmare not just for data analysts but also budget owners. We believe that migrating your data engineering workloads to can be beneficial, if you keep in mind some basic architectural principles. Teams processing big data in the cloud should understand and leverage its key attribute. Flexibility. The goal of our keynote is to share our experience and key learnings on how to fully utilize the power that the cloud offers and not go broke. This could be useful for both startups, but also large corporation as we will show examples of how to dramatically lower the cost of infrastructure.

Understanding the Cloud and the Benefits for the Accountancy Sector - Present...LouisaHDUK
This seminar will provide an overview of the Cloud and its application to the accountancy sector. The session is aimed at accountants in practice and business that wish to understand more about the benefits and risks associated with Cloud Computing and how they might introduce it into their business.
We will define the Cloud; introduce the options available to your practice,; highlight the benefits; and address the common concerns.
This will be put into context with real life case studies from some accountancy clients that have implemented our Cloud solutions. This will provide a valuable insight into the practicalities of going down a hosted route.
By then end of the seminar you will understand what is meant by Cloud Computing; appreciate the benefits and issues; and be able to evaluate if this type of solution is applicable to your business.
The term cloud computing is being used more and more, but what is it and why should you understand it? In this free webinar we will explain what cloud computing means, define the different types, discuss how it is impacting nonprofits and libraries, and outline some criteria for use. The challenges of using the “cloud” will be discussed, as well as whether cloud computing will simplify your life and reduce software and IT staffing costs.
Hear from Anna Jaeger, Co-Director, GreenTech at TechSoup Global, and Peter Campbell, Nonprofit Technologist at Earthjustice, who will help you understand this topic in order to better communicate with your consultants, staff and board. This webinar is applicable for any size organization and ideal for decision makers who need to communicate about cloud computing with tech consultants, and who are interested in making more informed technology decisions.

One of the most over-used terms in technology today, the “Cloud” is being used to describe pretty much any service that works over the Internet. But cloud computing has some specific advantages and some specific concerns. There are also three main areas where cloud computing is making a lot of business sense: in running business applications, in provide storage services, and in providing an alternative to computer servers.
In this presentation, I will better define what the cloud is and isn’t and then explore the areas where cloud services are providing value. I also give you tips on evaluating future cloud service providers so that you can continue to understand this new computing paradigm.
Learn the new rules of cloud storage. SoftNAS is now Buurst, and we're about to change the enterprise cloud storage industry as you know it.

1960: ENIAC, Huge machine for data processing, 1800 sq.ft
1980: IBM PC, Computers were evolving rapidly
1990: Microcomputers were now Servers, huge Tower servers
At the same time, Internet was also evolving
Since this was the evolution phase, traditionally, servers were kept in-house
The processors used at that time were RISC processors from IBM, HP, DEC, SUN, etc…very huge systems & complex to maintain
Resources were not easily available to maintain these systems and were highly paid
2000: Processor’s evolved at a very rapid speed and very frequently the upgraded versions started coming in market, like Pentium I, II, III, XEON & so on.
As the Internet reach started increasing and accessible to general public, the use of resources started increasing, like email.
Limited scalability
Capex invested for the scalability still the average resource utilization was not more than 50% to 60% and that too 50 to 60% utilization was type of spikes
Otherwise, the resources were most of the time under utilized
