 Teaching approach: The lesson is based on the Communicative Approach, and
organized through the PPP procedure (Harmer,2010).
 Integration of skills: students will work on their listening, speaking, reading and writing
skills
 Materials and resources: whiteboard and markers, printout, movie segment and trailer
 Pedagogical use of ICT in class or at home: students will work on two videos showing
authentic language
 Seating arrangement: during the different activities students will be sitting at their desks in
a circle for the lockstep and in 3 separate groups for the pair writing activity.
 Assessment: I’ll check students’ comprehension through questions, their answers to the
activities and their written and oral productions
Routine: Timing 3’
Purpose: to start the lesson, get students in the mood for work, establish rapport.
Grouping : Lockstep
I will enter the classroom and say hello to each of them, and ask each one how they are, or
about something I know was happening in their lives. I’ll ask them to put their desks facing each
other as if they were at a long house table. Once they’re all seated, I’ll say, please open your
folders, what day is it today? I’ll write the date on the board and ask them to do the same on
their folders.
Warm up Timing 10’
Purpose: To introduce the students into the topic of the class
Grouping: lockstep
I know most of them like science fiction movies. I’ll ask them: What kind of movies do you
like? Do you like science fiction movies? What science fiction movies have you watched?
What were they about? What hypothetical situations did they propose? EA: Varied
answers with varied grammar structures and lexis since they are open-answer questions.
T: Great! Now we are going to watch a movie trailer. It’s a science fiction movie.
Activity 1: Timing 10’
Purpose: To recognize the use of conditionals in authentic language, to practice the
structure
Grouping: lockstep
Please, watch the trailer and try to get what hypothetical situation it presents.

T: So, what is the name of the movie? What hypothetical situation does it present? EA: It
presents the idea of angels coming to earth and falling in love with humans. T: Great!
Have you watched the movie? EA: No, I haven’t. (The movie is probably a bit old for
them.) T: What do you think could happen if we could see and talk to angels? What would
you do? EA: Varied answers using conditional sentences. If any student has difficulties
producing the target structure, I will help them by paraphrasing what they said in the form
of a question using the correct form.
T: Excellent! Now let’s watch a bit more of the movie. Shall we?
Activity 2 Timing 12’
Purpose: To further practice the target structure
Grouping: in pairs
I will show the students a segment of the movie. We will watch it once and I’ll ask each
pair to discuss what happened in the segment. Then, I will hand them a worksheet with
sentences to fill in with the correct verb tense of the verb in parentheses.
I’ll say: “Pay attention to whether the consequences have a past or present result and if
you will use affirmative or negative forms to make sense. These are hypothetical
situations with different mixed time frames.”
Once the three pairs have finished, they will take turns sharing their answers and
discussing the differences and mistakes.
CITY OF ANGELS
Watch the movie segment and fill in the blanks with the correct form of the verbs in
brackets:
1. The doctor operated on the patient. She had to give the family the bad news.

  • 2.  Assessment: I’ll check students’ comprehension through questions, their answers to the activities and their written and oral productions Routine: Timing 3’ Purpose: to start the lesson, get students in the mood for work, establish rapport. Grouping : Lockstep I will enter the classroom and say hello to each of them, and ask each one how they are, or about something I know was happening in their lives. I’ll ask them to put their desks facing each other as if they were at a long house table. Once they’re all seated, I’ll say, please open your folders, what day is it today? I’ll write the date on the board and ask them to do the same on their folders. Warm up Timing 10’ Purpose: To introduce the students into the topic of the class Grouping: lockstep I know most of them like science fiction movies. I’ll ask them: What kind of movies do you like? Do you like science fiction movies? What science fiction movies have you watched? What were they about? What hypothetical situations did they propose? EA: Varied answers with varied grammar structures and lexis since they are open-answer questions. T: Great! Now we are going to watch a movie trailer. It’s a science fiction movie. Activity 1: Timing 10’ Purpose: To recognize the use of conditionals in authentic language, to practice the structure Grouping: lockstep Please, watch the trailer and try to get what hypothetical situation it presents. (The movie is probably a bit old for them.) T: What do you think could happen if we could see and talk to angels? What would you do? EA: Varied answers using conditional sentences. If any student has difficulties producing the target structure, I will help them by paraphrasing what they said in the form of a question using the correct form. T: Excellent! Now let’s watch a bit more of the movie. Shall we?
  • 3. Activity 2 Timing 12’ Purpose: To further practice the target structure Grouping: in pairs I will show the students a segment of the movie. We will watch it once and I’ll ask each pair to discuss what happened in the segment. Then, I will hand them a worksheet with sentences to fill in with the correct verb tense of the verb in parentheses. I’ll say: “Pay attention to whether the consequences have a past or present result and if you will use affirmative or negative forms to make sense. These are hypothetical situations with different mixed time frames.” Once the three pairs have finished, they will take turns sharing their answers and discussing the differences and mistakes. CITY OF ANGELS Watch the movie segment and fill in the blanks with the correct form of the verbs in brackets: 1. The doctor operated on the patient. She had to give the family the bad news.
