ABOUT MAURITIUS
• Mauritius officially the Republic of Mauritius.
• It is an island nation in the Indian Ocean about 2,000
kilometres off the southeast coast of
the African continent.
• The country includes the island
of Mauritius, Rodrigues [560 kilometres, and the outer
islands.
• The area of the country is 2,040 km2.
• The capital and largest city is Port Louis.
• The government uses English as the main language.
TOURISM IN MAURITIUS
• Tourism in Mauritius is an important component of
the Mauritian economy as well as a significant source
of its foreign exchange revenues.
• The tourism industry is also a major economic pillar on
the island of Rodrigues.
• Mauritius is mostly appreciated by tourist for its
natural beauty and man-made attractions, multi-ethnic
and cultural diversity of the population, tropical
climate, beautiful beaches and water sports.
PLACES TO VISIT MAURITIUS
Grand Baie
• Grand Baie is a classy and a cosmopolitan town located
in Rivière du Rempart District.
• which lies towards northwest of Mauritius. Excellent
beaches, scintillating nightlife and shopping.

holiday.
CHAMAREL COLOURED EARTH
• Chamarel is a small village
• It is a major tourist spot located in the south-western
region of the country.
• Seven coloured layers of sand is the main attraction.
• It is a unique phenomenon that charms and attracts
people from far and wide.
• The road to Chamarel is lined with sugarcane and
pineapple plantations leading to a valley.
• It is a drive straight out of a movie scene.
Casela Nature Park
• Casela Nature Park is the ideal location to spend a
leisurely day with your family and friends.
• It Located in the western part of Mauritius, this
park is a favourite with kids.
• Spread over 14 hectares of land.
• The Casela Nature Park is home to exotic flowers
and plants, more than 150 species of birds and
rare animals.
Grand Bassin
• Ganga Talao or the Grand Bassin is an important
pilgrimage site.
• It is a natural lake within an extinct volcano crater.
• According to a mythological story it is believed that
the water here is sourced from the sacred Ganges River
in India. Taking a dip in this lake during the
Shivratri festival is considered auspicious.
• Main attraction 108 feet tall statue of Lord Shiva, which
is the second largest statue in the world.
Rodrigues
• It popularly known as the jewel in the crown of the
Mascarene Islands.
• This mountainous island, away from the hustle-bustle
of a typical tourist destination, is a treat for sea lovers.
• Main attraction is that just walk around or rent a bike.
• It’s beautiful beyond imagination and if you are a
traveller who likes to take unbeaten paths.
Le Morne
• A UNESCO World Heritage Site.
• Le Morne is symbolic of history, and identity of
Mauritius.
• This is the place where slaves would hide while trying
to escape and so commemorates the struggle against
slavery.
• The scenic beauty of this location is enchanting.
• It is also home to a few rare species of plants.
DOWNTOWN PORT LOUIS
• The business and administrative capital of
Mauritius, Port Louis is a beautiful town.

exciting shopping and entertainment venues

overlooking the Port Louis Harbour.

ILE AUX CERFS
• The Ile Aux Cerfs Island, also known as the Deer Islands in English
• it Surrounded by the clear blue waters of the Indian Ocean(100
hectares)

lagoons and a plethora of activities and water sports.
• The island also has many restaurants where you can sample
delicious local cuisine.

Rochester Falls
• Located towards the south of Mauritius on the
Savanne River.
• The most fascinating feature of the Rochester
Falls are the lava rocks.
• which is the result of years of erosion and which
appear like rectangular blocks glued together.
CHAMP DE MARS, RACE COURSE
• The second oldest race course in the world.
• the Champ De Mars used to be a military training area
until the Turf Club was found here in 1812.
• It was at the Champs De Mars that the Independence
of Mauritius was proclaimed in 1968. On the grounds
of the Champs De Mars is the statue of King Edwars VII
and Malartic Tomb, a memorial dedicated to a former
French Governor of Mauritius.
BLUE BAY MARINE PARK
• Blue Bay Marine park is essentially an underwater
park which is home to many beautiful corals, fish
and other underwater life.
• Possessing an extremely distinct sea bed, the
marine park is also a popular diving spot in
Mauritius.
• The Blue Bay Marine Park boasts of 38 different
varieties of corals and 72 species of fish
Pamplemousses Botanical Garden
• These gardens are one of the oldest botanical gardens in
the southern hemisphere.
• Spread over an area of 37 hectares.
• The garden is most popular for its large water lilies, sugar
canes, ebonies and more than eighty varieties of palms
from Asia, Africa and islands around the Indian Ocean.
• Most of the trees in the garden have been planted by world
leaders such as Indira Gandhi, Princess Margaret and
Robert Mugabe among others
CITADEL FORT
• Perched on top of the hill Petite Montague, the Citadel Fort
is located at a height of 100 metres.
• It Also known as the Adelaide Fort (named after the wife of
William II, when the British held land in Port Louis).
• The fort offers stunning views of the harbour and the entire
city of Port Louis.
• Constructed in the 19th century by Colonel Cunningham to
protect the British Army from the enemy.
• The Citadel Fort has been constructed in a Moorish style,
complete with horse shoe arches.
• The fort has been constructed using large rectangular
blocks.
TOURISM SECTOR IN THE
MAURITIUS
• Marketing campaigns Tourism is vital to the economic stability and growth
of Mauritius. MTPA in collaboration with private and public sectors should
develop and deliver research-driven marketing programs. Its mission is to
grow Mauritian tourism sector by stimulating increased consumer
spending and visits, and by generating greater partner participation in
collaborative marketing initiatives
• Branding and Marketing. Mauritius is home to a multitude of traditions
capriciously preserved for more than 300 years offering a unique
landscape of colourful ethnic people from white to black living in absolute
harmony with each other. Located in the heart of the Indian Ocean, it is a
legend island where East and West meet. It offers memorable moments
and fascinating experiences hosted by its friendly and welcoming people.
MTPA is developing and designing the destination brand with right
strategy to effectively communicate the brand essence and brand promise
worldwide to all key stakeholders and potential tourists planning to travel
to Mauritius
• Advertising Advertising is the most visible and documented form of
marketing promotion. A range of options for promotional activities should
be utilized
• Media Relations MTPA media relations and public relations program is
designed to position Mauritian travel and tourism favorably in
international, regional and national media. The unit must develop and
maintains working relationships with proven writers and broadcasters,
providing timely and compelling tourism ideas/leads. Fax and e-mail
messages have to be sent regularly to daily and weekly newspapers,
magazines, radio and TV stations, and media contacts
• Tourism Awareness Air Mauritius and MTPA should organize Tourism
Awareness Programmes (TAP) as an ongoing information campaign to
create a greater awareness the Mauritian tourism industry in Europe
• International Workshops. Each year, MTPA should participate in the
International Travel Workshops in major target and emerging markets A
series of international workshops should be organized by MTPA in major
cities to build a better interaction between the Mauritian tour operators
and foreign agents
• Information Service A Tourist Information Service should be set up to
provide timely, accurate and effective destination information as well as
address visitor inquiries on the destination to all visitors traveling to
Mauritius on a 24 hours basis. Tourist Information Service is one-stop shop
• Service Excellence MTPA should strive in getting the stakeholders of the
entire tourism industry to incorporate, embrace and practice the concept
of Service Excellence Programme through special MTPA sponsored
training sessions. These should be aimed at achieving service excellence
and enabling companies to review their structures, systems and processes
accordingly to a set framework to satisfy and delight their customers
• Conference on Tourism This type of annual conference should bring
together all sectors of the Mauritian tourism industry for educational,
brainstorming and networking sessions. MTPA may also present its annual
tourism marketing and strategic marketing plan for the coming year.
• MTPA Travel Newspaper The MTPA Travel Newspaper would be launched
as a travel newspaper published two times a year in partnership with a
partner publisher. The Newspaper will include a calendar of activities.
MTPA will distribute the newspaper to Travel Information Centers. The
Marketing Update newsletter to keep tourists informed of current MTPA
marketing activities and the latest travel news, industry-related
developments, business opportunities, events and more
