Nepal aims to be the number one mountain tourism destination in the world by promoting sustainable and community-based tourism. It has a diverse landscape ranging from 60 meters to Mount Everest at 8,848 meters, and is known for its mountains, culture, adventures like trekking and rafting. Tourism contributes around 3% of GDP and the number of tourists is growing, with over 500,000 in 2007. Nepal has a goal of increasing tourism's contribution to 6% of GDP by 2010 by developing new products focused on responsible, eco, and community-based tourism.
