TOURISM OF NEPAL

Tourism comprises the activities of persons traveling to and
staying in places outside, their usual environment for not
more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and
other purposes (WTO, 1999). Over the past several decades
international tourism has gained distinct importance around
the globe. World tourism recovered strongly in 2010 even
exceeding the expectations. The tourists' arrivals grew by 6.7
percent in 2010 against the 4.0 percent decline in the
previous year – the year hardest hit by the global economic
crisis (UNWTO, 2011). Similarly, tourism receipt remained at
US $ 852 billion in 2009 (UNWTO, 2010). In Nepal, despite
the belated start of formal tourism after the restoration of
democracy in 1952, it gained remarkable growth over the
years. In 1962, 6,179 tourists1 travelled Nepal (MOTCA,
2010). It is estimated to be around one million in 2011
including the arrivals of foreigners by land.
INTRODUCTION
Tourism is the largest industry in Nepal and
its largest source of foreign exchange and
revenue. Possessing eight of the ten
highest mountains in the world, Nepal is a
hotspot destination for mountaineers, rock
climbers and people seeking adventure.
The Hindu and Buddhist heritage of Nepal
and its cool weather are also strong
attractions.
TOURISM IN NEPAL………
Domestic or internal tourism can bring various changes in country. For
instance, India relies on internal tourism by 70% so as China. Therefore, we
should also give emphasis on internal tourism for sustainable tourism
development in Nepal. Nepal is rich in natural and cultural heritage where
more than 80% people line in the rural areas. More villages have various
tourism resources, unique nature of ethnicity, cultures having different
festivals, traditions, values, languages customs, etc. Unless we are capable to
harness internal tourists as well as foreign tourists, we cannot transform
overall socio-economic and cultural changes in our society. It is identified
that the flow of domestic tourists in the villages like Sirubari, Ghalegaon,
Pashgoan, Bandipur and Ghandruk and so on, in the last few years, have
proved that we can go forward enhancing internal tourism using local
products and skills and uplifting living standard of rural people.

SOMES FACTS…..
The government for years been missing its target of welcoming one million tourists in the
country which it sets every year. But little soul-searching has been done to find out why fewer
tourists visit Nepal despite the country’s immense potential to attract visitors. Experts stress
on the need for new and innovative tourism products to lure more visitors. “Tourism is ever
changing and never ending. We need to have an eagle eye view to observe the history, legacy,
boundaries and opportunities of our tourism sector,” thinks Karna Sakya. According to him,
new packages related to adventure tourism, extreme sports and festivals need to be
developed to increase the number of visitors. Besides the older products of mountaineering
and rafting and the relative newer packages of paragliding and bungee jumping at limited
places, Nepali tourism does not have many products to excite visitors. “We can devise new
tourism products in caves, lakes and waterfalls segments,” suggests KGH founder Sakya. “We
have an abundant amount of such places that can be developed as new avenues of tourism,”
he adds. He also suggests that the country's colonial era palaces could be made into a new
product.
HOW TO ATTRACT MORE TOURIST??????
Firstly I would like to appreciate our economics teacher Mr. Tenpa Sincho for giving the
opportunity to learn something new on Tourism Industry of Nepal. While doing research I was
fully in to my work. I googled and found the most interesting thing on Tourism. By doing
research I came to know many good thing about Tourism. I think that you will definitely get to
learn something new by going through my assignment. This was really a very interesting topic
in my opinion. Knowing and getting knowledge about our own national country is good. We,
everyone should know about the major occupations of our country and tourism industry is the
main source for living in the country like in the rural , therefore of the many natural attractions
and heritage and cultural sites. We are very lucky to have a teacher like you who care for us.
Tourism is really important topic. I now know about the tourism in Nepal, its importance,
tourist arrivals in Nepal in different years and from which countries. I’ve also known about the
tourism impacts and its importance in enhancing the economic growth of the people, so this
topic was really interesting and wonderful.
CONCLUSION 1
Now let us know what is an tourism???? Tourism the largest industry in Nepal and its
largest source of foreign exchange and revenue. Possessing eight of the ten highest
mountains in the world, Nepal is a hotspot destination for mountaineers, rock
climbers and people seeking adventure. The Hindu and Buddhist heritage of Nepal
and its cool weather are also strong attractions. In this report I have even
mentioned that how we still can improve more on tourism , some facts which makes
the tourist visit Nepal again and again. Many countries and people visit Nepali again
and again . We all should be proud of our dynasty because they are the ones who
created this beautiful Nepal. Tourism can led us and our nation to the right part of
development of the country ,so we as well as the government should more focused
on tourism for the betterment of the nation.
CONCLUSION 2
THANK YOU ….

  • 4. Domestic or internal tourism can bring various changes in country. For instance, India relies on internal tourism by 70% so as China. Therefore, we should also give emphasis on internal tourism for sustainable tourism development in Nepal. Nepal is rich in natural and cultural heritage where more than 80% people line in the rural areas. More villages have various tourism resources, unique nature of ethnicity, cultures having different festivals, traditions, values, languages customs, etc. Unless we are capable to harness internal tourists as well as foreign tourists, we cannot transform overall socio-economic and cultural changes in our society. It is identified that the flow of domestic tourists in the villages like Sirubari, Ghalegaon, Pashgoan, Bandipur and Ghandruk and so on, in the last few years, have proved that we can go forward enhancing internal tourism using local products and skills and uplifting living standard of rural people. • 14. The government for years been missing its target of welcoming one million tourists in the country which it sets every year. But little soul-searching has been done to find out why fewer tourists visit Nepal despite the country’s immense potential to attract visitors. Experts stress on the need for new and innovative tourism products to lure more visitors. “Tourism is ever changing and never ending. We need to have an eagle eye view to observe the history, legacy, boundaries and opportunities of our tourism sector,” thinks Karna Sakya. According to him, new packages related to adventure tourism, extreme sports and festivals need to be developed to increase the number of visitors. Besides the older products of mountaineering and rafting and the relative newer packages of paragliding and bungee jumping at limited places, Nepali tourism does not have many products to excite visitors. “We can devise new tourism products in caves, lakes and waterfalls segments,” suggests KGH founder Sakya. “We have an abundant amount of such places that can be developed as new avenues of tourism,” he adds. He also suggests that the country's colonial era palaces could be made into a new product. HOW TO ATTRACT MORE TOURIST??????
