By Dale Vile, FreeformDynamics  Posted in PCs & Chips, 26th February 2009 13:19 GMT Tech Panel Our recent poll of Reg readers on their perceptions of some of the most prominent brands in the notebook PC space provided some interesting food for thought for those looking to make procurement decisions in this area. While it is tempting to focus on specs and prices, it was clear from results that there is much more to it than that For the more discerning, but still value conscious customer, it is also interesting to see Toshiba being considered as representing a good balance .
December 23, 2008 10:25 AM PST   Laptop Shipments Top Desktops for First Time In the 3rd quarter of 2008 notebooks topped desktop PC’s for the first time in market share history with 38.6M units as desktop PC’s fell a further 1.3%.  Second-place Dell saw a 6.3 percent decrease & Lenovo also saw its global shipments drop almost 5 percent.  There were a few bright spots in the midst of the economic gloom. Toshiba being one…heavily invested in notebooks and therefore more insulated from the long-declining desktop market, saw high rates of growth.

December 23, 2008 10:25 AM PST Laptop Shipments Top Desktops for First Time In the 3rd quarter of 2008 notebooks topped desktop PC’s for the first time in market share history with 38.6M units as desktop PC’s fell a further 1.3%. Second-place Dell saw a 6.3 percent decrease & Lenovo also saw its global shipments drop almost 5 percent. There were a few bright spots in the midst of the economic gloom. Toshiba being one…heavily invested in notebooks and therefore more insulated from the long-declining desktop market, saw high rates of growth.

Information is available at Department of Finance Canada at www.fin.gc.ca Thanks to a new government incentive in the 2009 Federal budget, businesses that purchase a laptop can claim 100 per cent of the capital cost allowance of a new computer acquired from January 27, 2009 to February 1, 2011.
