Top 10 Largest Forests in The World
Forests have great importance for the survival of the world and humankind.
Forests are the source of oxygen for humankind’s survival and provide a place
for habitats for Animals. They are also very significant for the nourishment of
wildlife and play the role of lungs in the world. Furthermore, it covers almost 35%
of the earth. There are a lot of reasons to save our forests. Thetopfacts are here
with some interesting information about the top 10 Largest Forests in the world.
The Amazon Rainforest, South
America
The Amazon is the most gigantic and famous forest on earth without any
undisputed. The King of all forests, spreading much of Colombia, northwestern
Brazil, Peru, and other South American countries, covered 5.5 million
km² areas. Moreover, The Amazon rainforest is the home of around 450-550
indigenous Amerindian tribes. One of the most interesting things is that almost
fifty tribes are among them have never had contact with the outside modern
world.
When talking about plants, the Amazon forest has an unbelievable 40,000
species of plants. Furthermore, it is a great source of protection for wildlife,
including 1,300 different kinds of birds, 3,000 types of fish, and 2.5 million
different insects.
Congo Rainforest, Africa
The African Rainforest comes on number 2 in the list of the World’s Largest
Forests by covering 3 million km² areas as well as around 40 million people
considering it to be their home. This area experiences an increase in the
population of 1.7 million people every year, creating a demand for food, fuel,
and shelter at a high cost to the forests.
The Congo Forest is home to the greatest quantity of primates, birds,
swallowtail butterflies, and fish. You can easily find more than 1,000 species of
bird. Furthermore, the second largest river in the world is the Congo River which
flows through the forest.
Valdivian Temperate Rainforest,
South America
The Valdivian Temperate Rainforest ranked 3 in the list of the world’s Largest
Forests. It covers a total of 248,100 km² area and is located in the southern
cone of South America, Chile, and extending into Argentina.
The Valdivian temperate rainforest is unique in that it is home to temperate
broadleaf species and mixed forest species. Furthermore, it is popular for its
unique and different collections of flora and fauna. This region has a moderate
temperature and climate, that’s why it doesn’t experience extremely hot and
cold weather conditions.
Tongass Forest, North America
Tongass forests are considered the fourth Largest Forest in the World. It is one
of the most widespread forests located in Southeast Alaska and is the largest
U.S. National Forest at 68,000 km². Tongass forest is home to 75,000 people
from different communities, and these people rely on forest resources to
survive.
The largest Alaskan trees and the most valuable forestry are found in the
Tongass National Forest. Also, wildlife that can be seen easily includes wolves,
moose, killer whales, humpback whales, bald eagles, and hair seals.
Sundarbans, Asia
Covering 10,000 km² of forest, Sundarbans is number 5 on the list of
the Largest Forests on Earth. In 1757, the East India company took all the
authority of Sundarbans forest from Mughal Ruler Alamgir II. In 1987, UNESCO
declared The Sundarbans National Park World Heritage.
This forest is home to various wildlife species, including 44 species of fish, 315
birds, 53 reptiles, and 49 species of mammals. Additionally, the Sundarbans
forest is vital to Bangladesh’s economy since it has become an important
source of forest production.

Xishuangbanna Rainforest, Asia
Existing at 2402 km², Xishuangbanna Rainforest is the sixth-largest forest in
the List of Largest Forests in the world. The Rainforest of Xishuangbanna is
located in China, and it is supposedly home to a great percentage of China’s
mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians.
Additionally, more than 20,000 different types of plants grow in this area; most
of them are edible plants, tropical plants, and some are useful materials. Also,
Xishuangbanna is one of the top places for producing rubbers.
Daintree Rainforest, Australia
Standing at 1,200 km², Daintree is the Largest Forest of Australia and the
seventh-largest forest worldwide. It is present on the North-East Coast in
Queensland, and it was named in honor of an Australian Geologist and
photographer named Richard Daintree.
The Daintree Rainforest is where about 40% of birds, 28% of frogs,65% of ferns,
and 34% of mammals live. Almost 13,000 different types of insects live within
the Daintree Rainforest. It is one of the oldest rainforests on earth, over 135
million years old. It makes this forest one of the Best Destinations for visitors
who enjoy the loveliness of nature.
Kinabalu National Park, Asia
Coming in at 754 km², Kinabalu was the first national park in Malaysia, and it
is surrounded by the highest mountain, known as Mount Kinabalu. Established
in 1964, it is an adequate place to see over 100 species of mammals, 326
species of birds, and 4,500 plant species.
The Kinabalu National has two birds, which can not be seen anywhere else in
the world – the Kinabalu friendly warbler and the Kinabalu mountain
blackbird. Also, you can easily find more than 11 species of land snails.
Mindo-Nambillo Cloud Forest,
South America
Covering an area of 192 km², Mindo-Nambillo Cloud Forest is the Largest
Forest in South America and the ninth-largest forest worldwide. Mindo-
Nambillo Cloud Forest is home to different plant species, such as Cedro trees,
arrayan, hill red peppers, Canelo, and the Ortigia. It is also home to about 600
different birds species. In addition, it is popular for its bromeliads, butterflies,
and orchids.
Sinharaja Forest Reserve, Sri
Lanka
Sinharaja Forest Reserve is the tenth-largest forest in the list of the world’s
largest forests. It is the biggest forest In Srilanka covering 88.64 km². UNESCO
declared it as a Biosphere Reserve and world heritage. The canopy trees are
the highest that can reach more than 45 meters in Sinharaja Forest Reserve. It
is home to more than 154 bird species and 45 reptile species.
