Introduction
This Insights Discovery profile is based on Tomáš Nejedlý’s responses to the Insights Preference
Evaluator which was completed on 10 November 2015.
The origins of personality theory can be traced back to the fifth century BC, when Hippocrates
identified four distinct energies exhibited by different people. The Insights System is built around
the model of personality first identified by the Swiss psychologist Carl Gustav Jung. This model
was published in his 1921 work “Psychological Types” and developed in subsequent writings.
Jung’s work on personality and preferences has since been adopted as the seminal work in
understanding personality and has been the subject of study for thousands of researchers to the
present day.
Using Jung's typology, this Insights Discovery profile offers a framework for self-understanding
and development. Research suggests that a good understanding of self, both strengths and
weaknesses, enables individuals to develop effective strategies for interaction and can help them
to better respond to the demands of their environment.
Generated from several hundred thousand permutations of statements, this profile is unique. It
reports statements which your Evaluator responses indicate may apply to you. Modify or delete
any statement which does not apply, but only after checking with colleagues or friends to identify
whether the statement may be a “blind spot” for you.
Use this profile pro-actively. That is, identify the key areas in which you can develop and take
action. Share the important aspects with friends and colleagues. Ask for feedback from them on
areas which seem particularly relevant for you and develop an action plan for growth personally
and interpersonally.

Overview
These statements provide a broad understanding of Tomáš’s work style. Use this section to gain
a better understanding of his approaches to his activities, relationships and decisions.
Personal Style
Tomáš is an innovator, always aware of new possibilities and different ways of doing things. His
aim is to fit all the pieces of the jigsaw together into a complete picture, but for Tomáš the jigsaw
keeps expanding with the discovery of every new piece. Personal prestige is important to him
and he appears as a natural, if somewhat disorganised person with a tenacious drive towards
future possibilities. He seeks the attainment of personal success and status, and in this constant
striving he may almost unwittingly compare himself with others in the race for success. With his
keen analytical abilities and good strategic thinking, Tomáš can almost always find the rationale
for the things that he wants to do.
He may have “failed” several times in his drive to achieve but tends to look upon failure as a
necessary learning curve to climb. He values the gifts of inspiration and intuition above almost
everything else in all that he does. Keeping in touch with his emotions, standing outside of them
when necessary rather than allowing them to take over, helps him to stay more fully in control of
a situation. He needs work that makes use of his strongly creative drive. He can find it hard to
concentrate on the small details and he may get bored with projects quickly.
Tasks that involve practical day-to-day maintenance tend to frustrate him. Tomáš is interested in
seeing possibilities beyond what is currently known, accepted or obvious. Tomáš's interest,
enthusiasm and energy levels are high. He will dismiss negatives, being eager to accomplish the
task. Tomáš enjoys work that involves moving projects forward. He appears to thrive on a wide
variety of tasks focusing on a motivating or promoting role.
Tomáš is logical and analytical, an ingenious thinker and long-range planner, and good at
anything that requires rapid reasoning. When he becomes charged with a mission to fulfil, once
that possibility is recognised, he needs to consider the details and possible options before
proceeding. Tomáš strives to make things better rather than simply accepting them as they are.
Tomáš generally achieves a balance between concern for the people being managed and
accomplishment of the task, a combination which makes him appreciated as a colleague. Since
he is more excited about using his imagination and creating something original, he may not take
the time to collect all the information prior to beginning the project or process.
Tending to pursue success mainly to reinforce his sense of self worth, he likes to experience a
steady stream of new ideas to assist him in goal attainment. He helps the innovative process by
regularly coming up with ideas. Hard work, busy schedules and merit-based remuneration are
hallmarks of the way Tomáš prefers to work. He is quick to spot opportunities and see how they
can be turned to his advantage. He tends to enjoy the company of like-minded people and may
be somewhat less interested in his opposite types, perceiving them as drab, rather predictable
and conventional.
Interacting with Others
Tomáš Nejedlý

Tomáš has a remarkable ability to get people to follow his lead. Although he may fail to recognise
the symptoms, he can become rather uncomfortable if separated from his family or group for long
periods of time. He may harbour a belief that no one really understands him or cares about him.
He may become emotional and rather vulnerable in this state. Tomáš enjoys involvement in
many activities, with a variety of people. He is stimulated by doing the unexpected or the
unusual. His “drive” is natural and not contrived.
He prefers what might be, rather than the reality of what is already. Having a high need to be
affirming of others and to receive affirmation from others, he exhibits an infectious enthusiasm for
living. He can be exceedingly stubborn and independent when faced with change or new ideas if
they are not his own. He may sometimes present himself as an “expert”, fully knowledgeable on
a subject and eager to educate others about it. This can sometimes prove embarrassing when
challenged by a more qualified expert. Tomáš's ingenuity, warmth and his understanding of
others allows him to proceed through life with great confidence. He is very effective in a
leadership role, able to persuade others of the value of his vision.
Seen by most people as outgoing, flexible and fearless, Tomáš can rise to meet any challenge.
Tomáš loves challenge, and is far-sighted and enthusiastic. While constantly striving to increase
his competence and personal power, he is outgoing, talkative and can cope with a large number
of different projects. Curious and alert, Tomáš prefers to understand rather than judge. He
relates to colleagues who appreciate his outgoing, talkative, matter of fact manner. Routine
practical work does not interest him for long, because he needs variety and freedom from
controls in order to sustain his interest. Errors made by others may upset him and cause him to
react loudly and vociferously.
Decision Making
Occasionally a non-conformist, Tomáš is good at seeing new ways of doing things. He will not
allow systems and procedure to stand in the way of what he believes is right. In his attempts to
please others he may make promises he cannot fulfil. To carry out his innovative ideas, Tomáš
relies on his impulsive energy. He is a keen initiator who finds most problems stimulating. In
decision-making he may prefer to apologise for exceeding his authority rather than getting
permission in the first place.
He may unconsciously manipulate the process to get his own way. He may have so many ideas
on the go that he has difficulty in making up his mind on the best course of action. Tomáš
expresses what he thinks are strong, decisive opinions in the hope that unresolved issues and
conflicts can be concluded quickly. He is likely to exercise his intuition constantly on the most
important and challenging parts of a problem. Optimistic, spontaneous, creative and confident,
he has an original mind and a strong sense of the possible. He is constantly full of enthusiasm for
new ideas.
He may lack sustained focus on the problem in hand. He tends to be influenced by the idea,
rather than the people behind the idea. Internally motivated to achieve, Tomáš is a hard worker,
who whilst being prepared to listen to, and be aware of others, will invariably go it alone if all else
fails. He is prepared to make high risk decisions. He may constantly test the limits of a situation
and he considers that most rules and regulations are there to be bent, if not broken.

Key Strengths & Weaknesses
Possible Weaknesses
Jung said “wisdom accepts that all things have two sides”. It has also been said that a weakness

Possible Blind Spots
Our perceptions of self may be different to the perceptions others have of us. We project who we
are onto the outside world through our “persona” and are not always aware of the effect our less
conscious behaviours have on others. These less conscious behaviours are termed “Blind
Spots”. Highlight the important statements in this section of which you are unaware and test them
for validity by asking for feedback from friends or colleagues.
Tomáš’s possible Blind Spots:
Tomáš may feel pressured to make decisions too quickly, before he has had adequate time to
gather all the more obscure facts and consider the fuller implications of his actions. He may
neglect essential preparation as he moves quickly in his zeal to take on something new. The
desire to remain open and responsive to new challenges can make him appear rather erratic,
and appear inconsiderate of the best laid plans and schedules of others.
He may jump to conclusions without gathering all the necessary information or taking the time to
really understand the situation. What he perceives as his own flamboyant behaviour can
sometimes be seen by others as crudeness and may alienate the very people he is trying to
impress. He may be seen by others as shallow or superficial due in part to his glib way with
words and his orientation with the future. He expects to win and is very assertive in attaining
outcomes despite how narrow his view may sometimes appear. He may need to learn and apply
time management and long-range planning techniques to help him complete his projects.
Tomáš's tendency to become distracted from finishing the tasks he starts sometimes may make
him appear indifferent or disinterested to some. When his hopes or dreams lose touch with
reality, others may then witness a rather surreal approach to life. Tomáš is often so involved in
his own processes that he fails to notice what is happening elsewhere. He has a hard time
separating his “persona” from the reality of who he is deep down, and may be unaware of, or
ignore stress signals until stopped in his tracks by a severe emotional experience. Although he
can do certain detailed work he will tend to be less careful and more restless in longer term
projects.

Opposite Type
The description in this section is based on Tomáš's opposite type on the Insights Wheel. Often,
we have most difficulty understanding and interacting with those whose preferences are different
to our own. Recognising these characteristics can help in developing strategies for personal
growth and enhanced interpersonal effectiveness.
Recognising your Opposite Type:
Tomáš’s opposite Insights type is the Coordinator, Jung’s “Introverted Sensing” type.
The Coordinator is a careful, cautious, conventional person who is diplomatic and sincere.
Coordinators tend to be very loyal, precise and disciplined with high standards and expectations
of self. Coordinators may appear to lack self-confidence and prefer to operate in a structured and
ordered manner, focusing on established guidelines rather than future possibilities.
Tomáš will often observe the Coordinator procrastinating on a decision until all of the facts and
details are available. Tomáš may also see the Coordinator as a critical and ideological thinker
who will be quiet and reserved around strangers. Coordinators do not like stress or chaos and
tend to be rather private, requiring support and reassurance. They prefer to build close
relationships with small groups of people and like to retain the familiar and predictable. The
Coordinator becomes stubborn if pressured, particularly by Tomáš!
Coordinators are concerned with what is “right” and, to Tomáš, appear slow in decision making.
They prefer a steady-paced environment with little interpersonal aggression and they tend to
distrust outgoing people. They are motivated by schedule and order and are among the most
private of the Insights types. Tomáš sees the Coordinator as ever concerned with efficiency,
becoming stressed when others do not stick to tightly laid down schedules and plans.

Opposite Type
Communication with Tomáš's Opposite Type
Written specifically for Tomáš, this section suggests some strategies he could use for effective
interaction with someone who is his opposite type on the Insights Wheel.
Tomáš Nejedlý: How you can meet the needs of your Opposite Type:
● Ensure you have a logical reason for any changes.
● Allow him time to gather his thoughts and to express his feelings.
● Say what you mean and mean what you say.
● Recognise his quiet dedication.
● Ensure that your statements are accurate and factual.
● Listen to his opinions.
Tomáš Nejedlý: When dealing with your opposite type DO NOT:
● Be over-humorous in a serious situation.
● Be vague about boundaries.
● Speak too quickly.
● Reinforce his own self criticism.
● Fail to be attentive to his suggestions.
● Do not assume that his lack of response means tacit agreement with what is proposed.

● Taking time to prepare and/or study the predetermined agenda well in advance of the
meeting.
● Becoming more patient and less restless.
● Learning how to relax completely.
● Sticking to standard procedures.

Page 4 Introduction This Insights Discovery profile is based on Tomáš Nejedlý’s responses to the Insights Preference Evaluator which was completed on 10 November 2015. The origins of personality theory can be traced back to the fifth century BC, when Hippocrates identified four distinct energies exhibited by different people. The Insights System is built around the model of personality first identified by the Swiss psychologist Carl Gustav Jung. This model was published in his 1921 work “Psychological Types” and developed in subsequent writings. Jung’s work on personality and preferences has since been adopted as the seminal work in understanding personality and has been the subject of study for thousands of researchers to the present day. Using Jung's typology, this Insights Discovery profile offers a framework for self-understanding and development. Research suggests that a good understanding of self, both strengths and weaknesses, enables individuals to develop effective strategies for interaction and can help them to better respond to the demands of their environment. Generated from several hundred thousand permutations of statements, this profile is unique. It reports statements which your Evaluator responses indicate may apply to you. Modify or delete any statement which does not apply, but only after checking with colleagues or friends to identify whether the statement may be a “blind spot” for you. Use this profile pro-actively. That is, identify the key areas in which you can develop and take action. Share the important aspects with friends and colleagues. Ask for feedback from them on areas which seem particularly relevant for you and develop an action plan for growth personally and interpersonally.
  • 5. Tomáš Nejedlý © The Insights Group Ltd, 1992-2015. All rights reserved. Page 5 Overview These statements provide a broad understanding of Tomáš’s work style. Use this section to gain a better understanding of his approaches to his activities, relationships and decisions. Personal Style Tomáš is an innovator, always aware of new possibilities and different ways of doing things. His aim is to fit all the pieces of the jigsaw together into a complete picture, but for Tomáš the jigsaw keeps expanding with the discovery of every new piece. Personal prestige is important to him and he appears as a natural, if somewhat disorganised person with a tenacious drive towards future possibilities. He seeks the attainment of personal success and status, and in this constant striving he may almost unwittingly compare himself with others in the race for success. With his keen analytical abilities and good strategic thinking, Tomáš can almost always find the rationale for the things that he wants to do. He may have “failed” several times in his drive to achieve but tends to look upon failure as a necessary learning curve to climb. He values the gifts of inspiration and intuition above almost everything else in all that he does. Keeping in touch with his emotions, standing outside of them when necessary rather than allowing them to take over, helps him to stay more fully in control of a situation. He needs work that makes use of his strongly creative drive. He can find it hard to concentrate on the small details and he may get bored with projects quickly. Tasks that involve practical day-to-day maintenance tend to frustrate him. Tomáš is interested in seeing possibilities beyond what is currently known, accepted or obvious. Tomáš's interest, enthusiasm and energy levels are high. He will dismiss negatives, being eager to accomplish the task. Tomáš enjoys work that involves moving projects forward. He appears to thrive on a wide variety of tasks focusing on a motivating or promoting role. Tomáš is logical and analytical, an ingenious thinker and long-range planner, and good at anything that requires rapid reasoning. When he becomes charged with a mission to fulfil, once that possibility is recognised, he needs to consider the details and possible options before proceeding. Tomáš strives to make things better rather than simply accepting them as they are. Tomáš generally achieves a balance between concern for the people being managed and accomplishment of the task, a combination which makes him appreciated as a colleague. Since he is more excited about using his imagination and creating something original, he may not take the time to collect all the information prior to beginning the project or process. Tending to pursue success mainly to reinforce his sense of self worth, he likes to experience a steady stream of new ideas to assist him in goal attainment. He helps the innovative process by regularly coming up with ideas. Hard work, busy schedules and merit-based remuneration are hallmarks of the way Tomáš prefers to work. He is quick to spot opportunities and see how they can be turned to his advantage. He tends to enjoy the company of like-minded people and may be somewhat less interested in his opposite types, perceiving them as drab, rather predictable and conventional. Interacting with Others
  • 6. Tomáš Nejedlý © The Insights Group Ltd, 1992-2015. All rights reserved. Page 6 Tomáš has a remarkable ability to get people to follow his lead. Although he may fail to recognise the symptoms, he can become rather uncomfortable if separated from his family or group for long periods of time. He may harbour a belief that no one really understands him or cares about him. He may become emotional and rather vulnerable in this state. Tomáš enjoys involvement in many activities, with a variety of people. He is stimulated by doing the unexpected or the unusual. His “drive” is natural and not contrived. He prefers what might be, rather than the reality of what is already. Having a high need to be affirming of others and to receive affirmation from others, he exhibits an infectious enthusiasm for living. He can be exceedingly stubborn and independent when faced with change or new ideas if they are not his own. He may sometimes present himself as an “expert”, fully knowledgeable on a subject and eager to educate others about it. This can sometimes prove embarrassing when challenged by a more qualified expert. Tomáš's ingenuity, warmth and his understanding of others allows him to proceed through life with great confidence. He is very effective in a leadership role, able to persuade others of the value of his vision. Seen by most people as outgoing, flexible and fearless, Tomáš can rise to meet any challenge. Tomáš loves challenge, and is far-sighted and enthusiastic. While constantly striving to increase his competence and personal power, he is outgoing, talkative and can cope with a large number of different projects. Curious and alert, Tomáš prefers to understand rather than judge. He relates to colleagues who appreciate his outgoing, talkative, matter of fact manner. Routine practical work does not interest him for long, because he needs variety and freedom from controls in order to sustain his interest. Errors made by others may upset him and cause him to react loudly and vociferously. Decision Making Occasionally a non-conformist, Tomáš is good at seeing new ways of doing things. He will not allow systems and procedure to stand in the way of what he believes is right. In his attempts to please others he may make promises he cannot fulfil. To carry out his innovative ideas, Tomáš relies on his impulsive energy. He is a keen initiator who finds most problems stimulating. In decision-making he may prefer to apologise for exceeding his authority rather than getting permission in the first place. He may unconsciously manipulate the process to get his own way. He may have so many ideas on the go that he has difficulty in making up his mind on the best course of action. Tomáš expresses what he thinks are strong, decisive opinions in the hope that unresolved issues and conflicts can be concluded quickly. He is likely to exercise his intuition constantly on the most important and challenging parts of a problem. Optimistic, spontaneous, creative and confident, he has an original mind and a strong sense of the possible. He is constantly full of enthusiasm for new ideas. He may lack sustained focus on the problem in hand. He tends to be influenced by the idea, rather than the people behind the idea. Internally motivated to achieve, Tomáš is a hard worker, who whilst being prepared to listen to, and be aware of others, will invariably go it alone if all else fails. He is prepared to make high risk decisions. He may constantly test the limits of a situation and he considers that most rules and regulations are there to be bent, if not broken. Personal Notes

  • 12. Tomáš Nejedlý © The Insights Group Ltd, 1992-2015. All rights reserved. Page 12 Possible Blind Spots Our perceptions of self may be different to the perceptions others have of us. We project who we are onto the outside world through our “persona” and are not always aware of the effect our less conscious behaviours have on others. These less conscious behaviours are termed “Blind Spots”. Highlight the important statements in this section of which you are unaware and test them for validity by asking for feedback from friends or colleagues. Tomáš’s possible Blind Spots: Tomáš may feel pressured to make decisions too quickly, before he has had adequate time to gather all the more obscure facts and consider the fuller implications of his actions. He may neglect essential preparation as he moves quickly in his zeal to take on something new. The desire to remain open and responsive to new challenges can make him appear rather erratic, and appear inconsiderate of the best laid plans and schedules of others. He may jump to conclusions without gathering all the necessary information or taking the time to really understand the situation. What he perceives as his own flamboyant behaviour can sometimes be seen by others as crudeness and may alienate the very people he is trying to impress. He may be seen by others as shallow or superficial due in part to his glib way with words and his orientation with the future. He expects to win and is very assertive in attaining outcomes despite how narrow his view may sometimes appear. He may need to learn and apply time management and long-range planning techniques to help him complete his projects. Tomáš's tendency to become distracted from finishing the tasks he starts sometimes may make him appear indifferent or disinterested to some. When his hopes or dreams lose touch with reality, others may then witness a rather surreal approach to life. Tomáš is often so involved in his own processes that he fails to notice what is happening elsewhere. He has a hard time separating his “persona” from the reality of who he is deep down, and may be unaware of, or ignore stress signals until stopped in his tracks by a severe emotional experience. Although he can do certain detailed work he will tend to be less careful and more restless in longer term projects. Personal Notes

Often, we have most difficulty understanding and interacting with those whose preferences are different to our own. Recognising these characteristics can help in developing strategies for personal growth and enhanced interpersonal effectiveness. Recognising your Opposite Type: Tomáš’s opposite Insights type is the Coordinator, Jung’s “Introverted Sensing” type. The Coordinator is a careful, cautious, conventional person who is diplomatic and sincere. Coordinators tend to be very loyal, precise and disciplined with high standards and expectations of self. Coordinators may appear to lack self-confidence and prefer to operate in a structured and ordered manner, focusing on established guidelines rather than future possibilities. Tomáš will often observe the Coordinator procrastinating on a decision until all of the facts and details are available. Tomáš may also see the Coordinator as a critical and ideological thinker who will be quiet and reserved around strangers. Coordinators do not like stress or chaos and tend to be rather private, requiring support and reassurance. They prefer to build close relationships with small groups of people and like to retain the familiar and predictable. The Coordinator becomes stubborn if pressured, particularly by Tomáš! Coordinators are concerned with what is “right” and, to Tomáš, appear slow in decision making. They prefer a steady-paced environment with little interpersonal aggression and they tend to distrust outgoing people. They are motivated by schedule and order and are among the most private of the Insights types. Tomáš sees the Coordinator as ever concerned with efficiency, becoming stressed when others do not stick to tightly laid down schedules and plans. Personal Notes
