This document is a student project on tobacco. It describes tobacco and its composition. It then discusses the current trends of decreasing tobacco consumption. 2. TOBACCO
I. DESCRIPTION:
The tobacco is a product of American agriculture and processed from the leaves of
Nicotiana tabacum. It is consumed in various ways, the primary way is by
combustion (the cigarette), and it contains toxic ammonia, methyl alcohol,
hydrochloric acid, furfural, aldehydes, arsenic and radioactive polonium. It is
lawfully marketed worldwide (except Bhutan), although in many countries
consumption has numerous restrictions, by its adverse effects on public health. Its
composition includes an alkaloid nicotine, found in the leaves in variable
proportions (from 1% to 12%). The Nicotiana genus covers more than 50 species
classified into four main groups: Nicotiana tabacum, Nicotiana petunoides,
Nicotiana rustica y Nicotiana polidiclia. The Nicotiana tabacum species addition
can be classified in four types: havanesis, brasilensis, virginica and purpurea,
which are the origin of the different varieties used in marketing. The tobacco puts
you behind the eight ball.
CURRENT TRENDS
The World Health Organization (WHO), said: "Countries that have recognized the
paramount importance of informing the public, have achieved a decrease in
consumption of tobacco. In many homes, public places and workplaces, it isn’t
acceptable to smoke". Because of the campaigns against the tobacco.
DAMAGE TO HEALTH
The consumption of tobacco is the leading cause of illness, disability and death
worldwide. Every year more than 5 million people in the world die due to smoke
and if we do not have action now in 2030 will be 10 million deaths; 7 million of them
in poor countries. By the way each cigarette has between 7 and 20 mg of tar and
80cm3, it produces carbon monoxide which reduces by 10% the capacity of blood
oxygen transport. The tobacco can burn the candle at both ends

3. Smoking kills more than: AIDS, tuberculosis, complications of childbirth, traffic
accidents, combined homicides and suicides. Smoking is associated with various
diseases. The most important by its severity are:
Cancer: The risk of developing lung cancer in the smoking population from 5 to 20
times higher than in non - smokers.
Cardiovascular diseases (heart): Cardiovascular diseases are due to disorders
of the heart and blood vessels. Every year more people die for some of these
diseases than by any other cause.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): chronic bronchitis and
emphysema, Developing COPD increases with age
Snuff and health of women and children. Passive Smoking:
- Smoking in women has shown a higher incidence of other tumors (breast,
cervix).
- Smoking during pregnancy also causes particular risks for babies. The
tobacco makes us get along in years.
- Passive smoking in children increases the frequency and severity of
asthma. The tobacco causes feel like more.
II. CONCLUSIONS
1. In conclusion the tobacco is harmful to both smokers and non-smokers.
2. In a nutshell tobacco consumption brings respiratory and cardiovascular
problems.
3. Passive smoking causes lung cancer so that Smoking is both to fool
around and harm us.
III. SUGGESTIONS
1. You can finally start using electronic cigarettes.
2. No smoking in public places. We must carry the ball for our health.
3. If you smoke, try to quit it as soon as possible.
