L-SQUARE
It divides the garment into desired measurement. It perfect squares and it is useful in
making straight lines and numbers. It can be a tape measure.
The two arms of an L-square:
 The Longer Arm is 24 inches long
 The Shorter Arm is 14 inches long
HIP CURVE
It is used in connecting or shaping curve points. The front part of the curve has a
measure of inches. At the back part is measure of centimeters.
FRENCH CURVE
It is used to shape the depth of the neck hole and armhole of the pattern.
RULER
It aids in connecting lines.
TAPE MEASURE
Is a device used in taking body measurement.
CUTTING TOOLS
SCISSOR
Scissors are used for shaping short curves, trimming and cutting buttonholes.
TRIMMING SCISSOR
Trimming scissors are used for cutting or trimming of threads.
TAILOR CHALK
It is used to transfer the marks from the pattern to the fabrics.
RIPPER
Ripper is a handy wire rod with a hook in one end which is used to remove seams or
stitches.
PENCIL AND ERASER
It is helpful in marking pattern in fabrics with light colors as well as in drafting of
patterns.
TRACING WHEELS
I is used to transfer seam lines, dark lines and seam allowances.
TRACING PAPER
It functions like a carbon paper. Tracing papers are categorized into black and white
depending upon the color to be traced.
THREAD
Thread when basting silk threads are more appropriate contrasting colors should be
used for easy location and removal if necessary.
DRAFTING TOOLS
PATTERN PAPER
It is an indispensable material used for drafting of patterns and marking or
transferring lines to fabrics.
