3. THE PROBLEM
With the continuous aim of the Department of
Education to strengthen the foundational, social, and
other relevant skills necessary to actualize the intent
of the basic education curriculum, DepEd come up
with an initiative to address these learning gaps – the
launching of the Catch-up Fridays.
4. THE PROBLEM
PISA (2019) emphasizes the urgency of
improving the quality of basic education in the
Philippines. For it revealed that the Philippines
scored 353 in Mathematics, 357 in Science, and
340 in Reading, all above the average of
participating OECD countries.
5. THE PROBLEM
Moreover, the need to intensify the Values,
Health, and Peace Education also remains a
priority in compliance with the Republic Act
No. 11476 also known as the Good Manners
and Right Conduct.
6. THE PROBLEM
PISA (2020) also highlighted the urgency of Peace
Education which revealed that bullying remains a
pervasive problem in public schools and the need for
Filipino learners as a global citizen to acquire and
strengthen peace competencies allowing them to
become peacebuilders and advocates in their
respective communities.
7. THE PROBLEM
However, the researcher noticed that in Peace Education,
there are no modules and activity sheets given and only
general topics covered for a specific week are available.
Hence, this prompted the researcher to pursue this study to
develop relevant and timely modules incorporating the
necessary topics presented on the Peace Education
framework during Catch-up Fridays.
8. RESEARCH PROBLEM
The study aimed to develop Peace Education Modules on
Catch-up Fridays among Grade 3.
Specifically, it sought answers to:
1.What competencies along measurements can be enhanced
through the Peace Education Module during Catch-up
Fridays as perceived by the teachers?

17. THE PROBLEM
Worldwide, Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) is radically transforming the way we
live. ICT is pervasive in our work, study and personal lives.
Today’s learners are growing up in a world characterized
by technological change and innovation. Educators have
recognized that there is a need to equip learners with the
necessary skills and experiences that will enable them to
become contributing members of the global community.
18. THE PROBLEM
Following the overall vision of the Department of
Education that focuses on implementing 21st Century
Education for all Filipinos, anytime and anywhere.
This means that an ICT-enable education system
transforms students into a dynamic life-long learners
and values-centered, productive and responsible
citizens (DepEd ICT4E Strategic Plan, 2008)
19. THE PROBLEM
Hence, digital technology is a continuous process that gives
positive effects within the school and to the teaching-
learning process. This is supported by the statement of T.
Eng, (2020) which states that there is a positive effect
between technology use and students’ learning. It also
emphasized that access to electronic-based materials and
simulations enhances the learning process of learners.
20. THE PROBLEM
Meanwhile, the researcher noticed that the Grade
three learners have shown a poor performance in the
subject science. And with this in mind, and with the
mentioned positive results of several researchers, the
researcher decided to craft a Mother-Tongue based
Electronic Material in Teaching Science among
Grade Three.
21. RESEARCH PROBLEM
The study aimed to develop Mother-Tongue Based Electronic
Material in Teaching Science among Grade 3.
Specifically, it sought answers to:
1.What learning competencies along Science concepts
particularly on living things, weather and forces and
motion, need resource materials as perceived by Grade 3
teachers?
22. RESEARCH PROBLEM
2. What resource materials can be developed in
teaching Science concepts particularly on living things,
weather and forces and motion?
3. What is the validity of Mother-Tongue Based
Electronic Material in terms of:
a.Content;
b.Design characteristics?
23. RESEARCH PROBLEM
4. What is the level of acceptability of the Mother-Tongue
Based Electronic Material in Teaching Science Among Grade
3 in terms of
a.Clarity;
b.Usefulness;
c.Language and style;
d.Illustrations; and
e.Suitability?
24. SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
This study focused in the development of Mother-
Tongue-based Electronic Material in Teaching Science
in Teaching Grade 3. All public teachers handling
Grade 3 Science classes from the Schools Division of
Vigan will be involved in study. This study is delimited
to the different Science concepts such as living things,
weather and forces and motion.
25. THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
To have a comprehensive understanding and
knowledge about the present study, the researcher was
guided by several theories that guides the study.
Particularly, it is anchored on the following theories:
Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning,
Constructivism Theory, Facilitation Theory or the
Humanist Approach and the Contextual Learning
Theory.

31. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Mathematics as a human activity arises from experiences
and becomes an integral part of the culture and society.
Every person must have complete awareness of numbers
and should have sufficient knowledge on basic numeracy
skills such as counting, sorting, comparing, adding,
subtracting, dividing and the like. These are the non-
intricate skills that should be learned from the first ladder
of education termed, preschool.
32. This research emphasizes the importance of
Manipulatives in connection with writing numbers.
Thus, it is believed that children prefer to work on
things than to sit and listen attentively to the teacher.
Learning will have a greater impact if the pupils are
given the chance to work with their own hands or by
experience
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
33. This is congruent with the idea of Education Professor Dr.
Jean Shaw (2015) who stated that Manipulatives are
effective for the following reasons: they are multisensory,
they represent ideas in more than one way, they promote
communication among students, and they increase
confidence, leading to lessened confusion and deepened
understanding.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
34. THE PROBLEM
Moreover, the researcher found out that a number of Day
Care pupils of the Child Development Center of Vigan
have not yet started learning about writing numbers. With
this in mind, the researcher came up with a plan to conduct
a study on the said matter to test the effectiveness of
Manipulatives in teaching the pupils without prior
knowledge about the lesson.
35. THE PROBLEM
Thus, by using Manipulatives as the onset for
change and innovation, it is hoped that it will
improve the learning process, contribute new way of
teaching numbers and its effectiveness as a strategy
will also be determined.
36. RESEARCH PROBLEM
The study focuses in determining the effectiveness of
Manipulatives in the Writing ability of the Day Care pupils of
the Vigan Child Development Center.
Specifically, it sought answers to the following questions.
1.What is the ability of the Day Care pupils in writing
numbers before and after the integration of Manipulatives
as a strategy?
37. RESEARCH PROBLEM
2. Is there a significant difference in the
writing ability of the Day Care pupils
before and after the integration of
Manipulatives as a strategy?
38. SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
This action research determined the effectiveness of
Manipulatives in the writing ability of the the Day Care
pupils of Vigan Child Development Center during the
Third Grading Period, School Year. The researcher will
use rubrics in determining the writing ability of the
pupils. The said rubrics will be validated by
knowledgeable persons along the field.
39. ASSUMPTIONS
In the conduct of this study, the researchers will
be guided by the following assumptions:
1.The research instrument used in the study is
valid and reliable.
2.The pupils’ responses in the instrument indicate
their ability in using Manipulatives.
41. RESEARCH DESIGN
This action research used the One-Group Pretest-Posttest design in
determining the effectiveness of Manipulatives in improving the Day
Care pupils’ ability in writing numbers.
Pretest Posttest
MANIPULATIVES
42. RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS
The researcher will use a validated rubric to determine the
ability of the Day Care pupils in using Manipulatives before
and after its integration. The researchers, with the guidance
of their Adviser prepared it. The Adviser of the Day Care
pupils and other knowledgeable person along the field will
validate the said instrument. The gathered data were
interpreted using the following norms.
