Tips For Managers To Transform Into Leaders
Many managers view their job as being simple: bark a few orders and tell everyone to do better. However,
to really motivate employees, you need to be an effective leader. When employees are led by a leader
instead of just being managed, they are more inclined to work hard for their leader and do their job well.
Be Someone They Want to Follow
Nobody wants to follow someone who doesn't set a good example. If you tell your employees to be happy
and work hard, but you aren't doing the same, they won't take you seriously. Be the type of person they
want to follow:
* Come into work with a smile and show excitement about working.
* Be approachable and eager to answer questions or give advice.
* Do what you say you are going to do.
* Focus on the good and be optimistic.
* Share your values with employees and let those values guide
every decision you make.
* Always work on yourself and try to become a better leader every
day.
Behaving this way sets a good example that people want to follow.
Know How to Correct and Praise Properly
There are going to be times when you have to correct an employee or comment on a mistake and there is
a right way and a wrong way to do this. The easy way is to directly point out the mistake, but that
embarrasses and frustrates most employees. Instead, find ways to use the mistake to help them grow. Ask
them if they feel the work was their best and how they might have improved it. This shows that you are
working with them to correct mistakes instead of just pointing fingers.
Managers often forget or don’t take the time to praise their employees when they do a good job, but as a
leader, you have to remember to point out good work. Even if it is something small, take the time to tell
them you are happy. This will go a long way to show employees that good work is recognized.

Involve Your Employees
Keep your employees involved. This shows that they are part of the team and they make a difference to
the business. If there is a problem, ask them if they have any ideas for solutions. Asking questions is a great
way to show that you care what they have to say and value their opinions. In addition, always credit your
team when something goes right. Managers are often inclined to take the credit themselves, but leaders
share credit with their teams because they understand it's a team effort.
Don't just manage your staff: lead them. By following these three tips, you can change the way your
employees perceive you and make them want to follow your lead and work hard without even being
