De “verlossing”, het heil, is er volgens het christelijk geloof niet zonder meer. Verlossing is ons gegeven in de zin dat ons hoop geschonken is, een betrouwbare hoop, van waaruit wij ons heden aankunnen: het heden, ook het moeilijke heden, kan geleefd en aanvaard worden, als het naar een doel leidt en als wij zeker kunnen zijn van dat doel, als dat doel zo groot is dat het de inspanning van de weg rechtvaardigt.
