Time Magazine Ad Analysis
1. Time Magazine Ad Analysis
Despite its beginning and transformations, TIME magazine has earned a following from all walks of life, both for their website and print magazines.
It was a magazine which started out with a conservative, older reader base. Eventually the news stories became exceedingly objective though, and
anyone attempting the find true news stories these days has probably heard of TIME magazine. In the December 14, 2015 issue of TIME magazine, an
upāandācoming website, Texture.com, has published an eyeācatching ad filled with commotion, fire, explosions and vibrant colors. The ad would
hardly be thought provoking though, without the sense of impending doom which surrounds the figures in the ad's isolated atmosphere. While one
firefighter tries to get the attention of another, the man beside the truckā presumably the truck driverā tries to warn both of the hapless firefighters of
an inevitable explosion. The fire has already reached the back of the vehicle, and as the flames had engulfed the front end, the fire will trickle
downward and backward, reaching and igniting every last explosive in it....show more content...
The smooth lines in the center of the ad, are created by the largest figures, a tablet and cargo truck that are parallel to one another. The fire breaks
the image and the destruction is vivid. The fire is also competes for space, flooding most of the page in orange hues. The water surging against it
apparently has failed, and at least two of the people in the ad seem to be in danger. It is a wholly unnatural disaster, but how does this relate to
Texture.com? What aspects of fire are characterizing the sign in its context? Are there multiple meanings to the fire? How does culture shape the fire's
meanings, and inform its author? What sociological and psychological issues are represented by the fire for the magazine's wide audience, and does the
advertisement ultimately fail in regard to gaining a

2. The Common Literary Magazine Analysis
Reading the two issues of The Common literary magazines, published at Amherst College, by Jennifer Acker, intensified my curiosity and
engagement with "my sense of place" within Lowell. The Common provides numerous articles including stories, essays, poems, photographs, and
other artworks that tell a story of the location and history of the origin. Being able to read this magazine allowed me to understand the importance of
learning about the world through different mediums of work, which I believe is very fascinating and much more intriguing to read. Not only did I
learn a lot about New Zealand, Bolivia, New York, France, etc., through the various mediums, but also about my own city. During the process of
reading both issues of the magazine, I was able to indulge myself into a further understanding of the...show more content...
My overall favorite mediums provided in The Common would be the poems and the artwork because of the depth and different details that each
contained. In my opinion, although each piece stood for itself, these two types of mediums always really intrigued me because it created more of
a visual for me, which is much more different than what I usually read. After reading The Common, I decided to choose artworks like paintings
and drawings to base off my own homage. I believe you can learn so much more about a specific location from this type of medium because it is a
different way to express the human mind and other senses that we do not usually use when learning about places. I chose a couple pieces of work
that stood out to me because of the connection I thought it had with my Lowellian homage. For instance, one of the pieces that I chose was "The Bay
of Nice", 1918, by Henri

3. Magazine Analysis Of Cosmopolitan Magazine
The international fashion magazine Cosmopolitan which, started as a family magazine, afterward, changed into a women's magazine. The former
editor in chief of Cosmopolitan is Michele Promaulayko is also the editor in chief of Yahoo Health. The magazine covers different issues related to
women like relationship, health, fashion, and beauty. The purpose of the magazine is to discuss the issues of women furthermore educate them about
health and fashion. The author places an importance on subjects such as lifestyle, relationships, and beauty in order to make women consider these
subjects. Just like any other magazine, Cosmopolitan has numerous amounts of advertisements in its magazines. The magazine sends a negative
message by suggesting women have to look a certain way and it also portrays women in a sexual way and expects women to have an appearance like
that of celebrities. Throughout the article, the advertisements suggest that their products will make the women reach the beauty standard. In order for
women to buy the products, the advertisers set the beauty standard high. The author engages the attention of young women by using a picture of a
model on the cover of the magazine. In the middle of the magazine, there is a model with perfect skin and hair. The author also uses phrases like,
"My life as a size 18..." to occupy the attention of young girls because nowadays countless young girls are concerned about their weight. The use of
images and phrases make the

4. Magazine Analysis: Seventeen Magazine
Seventeen Magazine
Seventeen magazine was the teen magazine to be published back in September of 1944. The goal of the magazine was to inspire teen girls to empower
themselves and that they to can accomplish anything. Seventeen just a few years later, it took a more fashion and romanceāoriented approach in
presenting their material, while still maintaining their model of promoting selfāconfidence in young women.
Seventeen is a magazine that has a target audience that is teenagers. The magazine usually puts celebrities on the front page. These celebrities usually
are famous people who teenage girls are interested in. The magazine that I am going to describe was issued out in April of 2009 and this one features

in the magazine range from styles for wavy hair, straight hair, supper curly hair, curly hair, and relaxed hair. They suggest the best product that will
help you achieve the style you want. Another appealing headline is the one that is offering suggestions on how to make your hair grow. I was once
told by a boy that they personally don't ljke short hair on girls because they think it makes them look sort of masculine, and girls who have long hair
look more feminine. There are a few more headlines to the cover. One says "Look Amazing, style secrets for your body". This offers many different

One of the magazines I chose to discuss was the parenting magazine. in this issue it the cover did not fit the typical "Media Fixations" (article) of the
rich famous Caucasian woman. there was some differences with this particular cover it displayed a Asian mother and daughter, although bothmother
and daughter was seen smiling and gazing in to each other eyes. In the magazine it also discussed different articles that discussed how parents can
assist their children in learning to dress themselves, examples on how mothers can stay fit, parent approved toys and quick easy steps for thanksgiving

6. Lifestyle Magazine As An Example
Using Lifestyle magazine as an example, explore how media texts target specific audience.
Lifestyle magazine are magazines that tells the audience about the lifestyle they live and can have an impact on their lives as their views can be
subverted by the ideology of the magazine. This ideology comes from the creators of the magazine; they put what they think instead of what the public
thinks about a certain topic. In this writing i am going to talk about what the lifestyle magazines do in order to attract specific audience and how they
achieve in targeting specific audience.
The two lifestyle magazines that i am going to talk about are FHM and Cosmopolitan magazine. These magazines were released on november 2013 and
the target audience between the two has links and oppositions. On both magazines, the central image is the image of females; which suggests that these
magazines are targeted at female. But, on the front of these magazines it is a picture of seductive females which implies that the audience is different
and possibly males as they would get attracted.
I am going to start by analysing how FHM targets their audience and keep their loyalty so that they would not look for another magazine to replace the
FHM magazine they currently hold. This magazine is promoting antiāfeminism as the main central image is of a woman with a seductive look which is
representing woman in a negative manner. Also, further connotes objectification of woman as the clothes signifiers shows

8. Men's Health Magazine Analysis Essay
The target audience for "Men's Health" magazine has always been perceived as the stereotypical man's man. The weight lifter, the health nut, or perhaps
just the thirty to fortyāfiveāyearāold father of two attempting to fight back the hands of time and look younger just a little bit longer. This is no longer
the case as the social climate has begun to change over the last few years however, the magazine is beginning to recognize that it's readership is
made up of a much more diverse and not so cookie cutter audience. A very specific example of that can be found inside the June, 2017 issue of
"Men's Health" magazine displayed in a twoāfull page advertisement for a website geared towards the sexual health of gay men. Specifically, the...show

The website for this advertisement is a site geared towards the various aspects of sexual health associated with a relationship of any type. Proper
types of protection for yourself and your partner are referenced as well as ice breakers to discuss various topics that would be difficult to address
early on in any sexually active relationship. The most impressive message associated with them is the message at the bottom that reads "and talk to a
healthcare provider". It seems only a normal evolution that as social acceptance surrounding couples of every makeup would lead to a more open
and honest discussion about their sexual interactions and how to stay healthy and active at the same time. We have been observing messages of this
type since high school for the last 30 years, but only geared towards the more conventional ideas about sex and relationships. It is reasonable to
assume that the target audience for this message is the gay community. The individual models do not appear any different than any other person you
might encounter in the street or the subway or the local supermarket. The scenes are depicted so normally to send a very important message about how
normal a concept it should be to seek medical advice concerning your health whether you are gay or straight. The body posture and poses are very
casual only enhancing the message that conversations with healthcare

10. Analysis of the Representation of Women in Magazines
In this essay, I am going to analyse how girls and women are represented in a range of magazines. Depending on the target audience, the contents of
the magazine differs. This essay will look and describe the differences between the magazines and why they are there. The age groups and magazines I
will be examining are; teenage with the magazine 'Sneak,' twenty something's with the magazine 'Glamour,' and middle aged with the magazine
'Women's Own.' I will give a general overview of each target audience and what is represented.
I will begin with 'Sneak' and the target audience of teenagers. Although aimed at teenagers, many eight and...show more content...
'Glamour' is aimed mainly at late teens to late twenties. When flicking through the magazine, I noticed that there was more text and adverts. This
reflects how the ageāgroup has more time and disposable income. Also, 'Glamour' was the most expensive magazine, being ŠŠ1.90 and included a
website, (see figure 2,) which again indicates a higher disposable income and extra time. The front cover yet again includes an hourglass shaped
celebrity, but she is older, although she still conforms to the dominant ideology for a young female. The magazine includes the latest fashion and
makeāup styles, but on a much larger scale when compared to 'Sneak.' "MASSIVE FASHION SPECIAL: 1322 HOT NEW LOOKS." It again
includes problem pages, but the problems are mainly on lifestyle or sex, instead of dating. 'Glamour' also advertises to the stereotypical women using
its front page with the advert; "20% off SHOES At Faith for every reader." Magazines can use this effectively, because it represents the expectations
reflected by society and the media.
'Women's Own' is mostly aimed at middle aged housewives, although older people do read it, because it would give them a chance of extended
youth. The front cover for the magazine, (see figure 3,) is dramatically different. It has older soap celebrities, who some women would be able to
relate to. The people on the cover are less bothered about

notable for featuring film, television, book, and music reviews. Unlike some magazines targeting specific demographics, Entertainment Weekly
appeals to a broad audience. Considering many people of all ages have an interest in the arts, the magazine appeals to both young and old readers. The
magazine features celebrities of all ages, along with typically lighthearted articles geared towards a broad audience. The magazine features
entertainment related stories that target both young and old readers alike. Considering the content of the magazine is related to the arts, the cover of the
magazine usually features actors promoting upcoming film or television projects. The most recent edition of the magazine features celebrity Rebel
Wilson on the May 8th edition promoting her upcoming film "Pitch Perfect 2". Similar to the current issue, the May 1st edition featured actor Tom
Hardy promoting the film "Mad Max: Fury Road'. Having celebrities on the cover (usually in character from the film they are promoting) helps generate
interest with the readers. The articles are visual, featuring pictures of the subject. The magazine articles are colorful, frequently featuring different
colored font making it visually appealing to the reader. Taking into account the magazine heavily relies on promoting upcoming films, the advertising

The magazine I have chosen for analysis is an issue of Men's Magazine for March 2010. The magazine conveys health tips and suggestions on one
cover and on the other cover has tips for men's style. 33 pages of the magazine cover style and 136 pages cover health, sex, relationships, fitness, and
nutrition with about half the magazine having advertisements for a variety of products including cars, cologne, clothes, alcohol, and healthy foods. The
audience that Men's Health portrays to is straight men above 18 years old who can afford to purchase the products advertised and have enough free

demeanors and the line above them saying "Winning takes intense preparation." To promote their cereal, (which in the ad says has complex carbs,

13. Rhetorical Analysis Of People Magazine
People Magazine's audience comprises of mostly women, and the articles and advertisements within the magazine prove this. Such types of passages
consist primarily of gossip, however, there are some informational reads in the magazine. One advertisement in the September 18 issue of this year is
a safety message from Tide. While the advertisement is a safety message, it is obviously still trying to sell the product: Tide PODS. The targetaudience
of this advertisement is more specific than People Magazine; instead of only targeting women, Tide narrows its audience down to parents. Tide's
advertisement uses some pathos, but it heavily draws its appeals from ethos. In the advertisement, you immediately notice the focal point: a small child
reaching up to grab the laundry detergent left in a basket on the floor. Any parent would pale at a sight like this if they saw this happen in their
household; after all, laundry detergent is poisonous to humans. Immediately below the picture lie five words and they are followed by instructions to
further ensure the safety of your child. The five words used, "it only takes a second," have a meaning whose interpretation comes in many forms, even
if the meaning could be seen as selfāexplanatory. If interpreted as a warning that an accident could occur in a second, it invokes the feeling of fear,
thus creating great emotional appeal; however, if interpreted as a statement saying that it only takes a second to put the laundry detergent away, the
words show that Tide does care about your children, thus establishing great credibility and possibly trust. They even tell you how to keep the detergent
away from your children, which creates greater ethos appeal. An interesting thing to note about this advertisement is the product. The Tide PODS is
not in the typical bag you would find them in; rather, the Tide PODS are now in a small tub. The small tub seen in the advertisement has been named
the "ChildāGuard" tub, and the item is now one of the few ways Tide PODS are now sold. What is impressive is the dedication that Tide has towards
its consumers. If Tide didn't try to keep its consumers' children safe, then they'd not only lose out on an excellent marketing opportunity; they

According to MerriamāWebster, Cosmopolitan means "having wide international sophistication." It is also a popular beverage made famous by HBO's
Sex in the City. Cosmopolitan, therefore, is undoubtedly a fitting title for a magazine geared towards single woman who are looking for advice about
sex, fashion, and sophistication. Each month a variety of hegemonic articles are presented to Cosmopolitan's target audience as a means to satisfy their

The writers of Cosmopolitan are aware that their readers have different intentions for reading the magazine and are sure to address the variety of needs.
The writers and editors of Cosmopolitan act as a friend to the reader telling her she is not alone with her questions about men, fashion, or sexuality.
Articles attempt to comfort the reader by informing them, for example, that it is acceptable to engage in preāmarital sex because there are women
throughout the world that are doing the same thing. The message in the article reinforces that all women are the same in the sense that they all have
the same problems (and Cosmo will help fix them). The message also emphasizes that men are polar opposites of women and are thus very confusing
to women. Cosmo aims to bridge the gap between men and women by befriending the reader and comforting her with her female dilemmas.
Cosmopolitan encourages its readers to embrace certain identities as a woman. The predominant belief is that women must learn how to get a man and
keep him. Gauntlett explains how "magazines are accused of suggesting that a man is the route to happiness" (Gauntlett, 192). In every issue there are
articles that teach women the tricks of how to attract men in a variety of circumstances based on their looks, actions, and conversations. Once a woman
has "her man" she must then read articles about how to pleasure him and keep him
