1. Threats to the
rainforest
Rainforests are among the most important yet threatened ecosystems on the
planet. Today, more than half of Earth's original rainforests have all been destroyed. Did
you know that every year, 50 million acres (an area the size of England, Wales and
Scotland combined) are cut down? Rainforests in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and
Haiti have been lost entirely. Every second of every day, a slice of rainforest the size of
a football field is mowed down. So what threatens the Rainforest? Humans. We cut
down and destroy everything we find just because we can. There are innocent animals
dying everyday because of us. I would like to research ways for me to do something. I
for one am not going to just ignore these facts.
