Students signed technology contracts and enrolled in Class Dojo before beginning a blended learning format about Thomas Jefferson's love of gardening. They received a research toolkit and were required to complete basic research. Some students' research included compiling materials lists, price lists, and total costs for theme gardens. Students' Lexile scores determined if they completed additional research levels, including illustrating theme gardens with plant types, sun exposure, and spacing. A few students created 3D garden models while others had time constraints.
